The bloog, Volt, (I think Halo) and a few others use generation two batteries. Vfl, v2 and a few more that come to mind use generation 1.

Mainly, the gen 2s are regulated 3.7v batteries. Gen1 are unregulated and come off the charger at around 4.2v and dropping down to 3.7v and eventually to 3.2 before needing a charge. Some prefer the initial high voltage. Some prefer consistency and the fact that vapor won't drop off as the battery is used. Most of the gen2 vendors use horizontal cartos which do a great job of using up all the juice and seem to be better on flavor. The other difference is you can't charge a gen1 battery on a gen2 charger (or maybe I have that backwards) or could damage it as it sits on the charger off load when charged. If you really want more repost this question in the 808 subforum. Cheers.KR808D-1

That's the technical aspect. Everything else seems to be justifying brand loyalty. I do prefer one to the other because the draw is a little different on gen1s vs gen2s but I'm keeping my preference to myself.;) (for once)

There are some small differences between some major marketed brands selling 808's and the generic batteries that can be purchased most places. Most notably the auto batteries of some brands cut off after a 10 second draw, and the cheapie batteries seem to be all 5 seconds.

V4L and Smokeless Image (volt) seem to have the most positively reviewed KR808 batts around. I once owned a volt and loved it right up until the time I got blind drunk at the pub and lost it.
:party:= :(

I've noticed small differences. I have V2's (the first ones to sucker me in) and V4Ls, and then cartos from various places.
Even though they have the same performance, v4l's come in all different lengths than v2's. The carto's are different sizes and different resistances. V4L has put out some new bats too... same threading the but the specs are different (longer, seem to be regulated around 4.2). I'm sure people in the 808 or the v4l forums could say the specifics about the differences. V4L offers two dif carto models "wow" is a lower resistance (more vapor but can burn easier) than the "cool carts" (better for higher powered bats like a passthrough). If you want to buy juices from the same place, v4l has tons of variety, but most of their flavors are surprisingly awful for my taste buds. V4l has lots of variety overall. Lots of color options on cartos, tons of color options and length options on bats, tons of flavors. They have some of the most attractive batteries I've seen.

But yeah, over all they're pretty much the same. I use accessories and carto's interchangeably. Customer service stuff is the main difference (warranties, good manners, etc). V2 offers lifetime warranties but their prices are solidly double that of v4l who only offer a 45 day warranty.

I'm a v4l fan because of prices and battery colors/patterns. But if I remember right, Halo's pretty good for that too.
