Hey everyone,

I have been watching a ton of videos and reading up on a LOT of information on vaping and am planning to build a Box Mod, but need some advice on my build.

I am mostly after vapor and partially after the flavor, but likewise with many other first-timers, I have a relatively low budget. I am trying to aim for something that I can use for a while on a single refill, so I have been considering a carto tank over an rda or clearomizer. Any advice on what to get that would work for my build is appreciated.

This what I have been thinking of putting together:
-LM2596
-510 Connector
-Battery: Zippy Flightmax 2S lipo 5200mah from HobbyKing (cant post links yet)
-Keedox mini blue voltage indicator from amazon
-G̶e̶n̶e̶r̶i̶c̶ ̶3̶A̶ ̶s̶w̶i̶t̶c̶h̶ Generic 8-12A switch

I was hoping to get a pot to connect between the LM2596 and the 510, then splice the voltage indicator into that, but I have no idea how to choose a pot. I also need help finding a housing, as it seems most of them are pretty small. If the size of the battery becomes an issue, I will just use 18650's instead.

Any advice at all is appreciated
-TT

Have you considered using a Evolv DNA board? That might help a lot with the space in a box as the DNA board doesnt seem to take up much space at all.

I originally wanted to get a OKR T10, but could not find them anywhere easily available. I also saw the DNA boards, however as one of my goals of this build is to keep it as cheap as possible, I did not bother to look into it much. If there are any other boards, please let me know. I am kinda flying by the seat of my pants so far :D

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

Try browsing around the "stickies". I am not sure how many posts you need to post in this part of the forum.

I am not a modder but all the box mods I own have a switch rated at 12A.

I need to post 5 times but I didn't want to post random stuff in threads since I'm new to all this, so I figured I'd just make a thread out of my question and knock off my 5 posts at the same time. Thank you for the switch rating I will definitely find a higher amperage switch, however since the max draw of the board I am using is 3A, I didn't really think I would need a switch higher than 3-5amps. Is this correct? I know its always better to be safe than sorry :)

I haven't really looked into what I'm going to be actually vaping on (carto, RDA, clearomizer, etc), since I have no idea what resistance and voltage I should be running this build at. I am assuming a good place to start is around 4v on a 2.5ohm coil? Please forgive my ultra newbieness.

Thanks!

No need to apologize!:)

Again, I am not a modder, so I can't really say what you will need. My Reo's (a bottom feeding mechanical box mod) all have 12A switches. This is just a FYI.

Once you get in your 5 posts (and the forum updates at :25 past the hour) you will be able to post over in the Modders forum. There is a lot of information over there -- including the "stickys".

Yeah I think I will do that, thank you. Do you have any videos or links on the different types of atomizers, ohms, voltages, etc? I can probably find something but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask :)

Welcome to ECF!

Thanks Warpigs, from what I have seen in my time browsing the site, its the best of its kind!

Not quite sure what you mean by "ohms and voltage" but here are some links on atomizers and cartotanks. Check out these great blogs by Baditude on cartotanks:

Here are some great blogs on dripping & cartotanks by ECF member The Ocelot:

This is the exact information I was hoping to find (had to cut the links out since I can't post links yet).Thank you so much. In the first link the page has a chart with voltages vs resistance. That is exactly what I was crudely referring to when I said "ohms and voltage", so thank you for providing me with this information.

Now I'm off to find a decent carto!

Thanks again,

Maybe this is what you were referring to (there are so many, so you choose): Vaping Power Charts

All of the videos from pbusardo on YouTube are informative and entertaining. I know he's done several on battery safety, resistance, etc.
