I quit analogs on Jan 16th of this year on my 51st birthday! I used Blu to quit them and it did it's job well. A friend of mine was using a PV(she still smokes tho) and I said "I couldn't imagine myself using one of those big bulky things, especially in public" hehe! But I was getting bored with the flavors and started to research vaping on the Web. When I saw all the flavors that were out there I told myself I have to start vaping. so on September 1st I wandered into my local vape shop that sells Totally Wicked just to see what everything was about. And you know I walked out with a Tornado megaT, a Tornado mini RCS and a bottle of caramel apple juice. I was hooked! I've already changed up from a plastic tank to a Protank II, and next month I'm getting the Vision Spinner 1300 mAh in Rainbow(if I can find one). I'm having so much fun trying different flavors at my local vape lounge, and going crazy searching and reading reviews. I'm having a problem tho. Bought a 30ml of Custard's Last Stand from nicoticket.com in my search for an ADV, and the juice and the company did not disappoint me. But I've already gone through 2 coil heads because the juice gets real dark and loses is flavor :-( Clark at NT was great in trying to help me, but I'm still having the same problem. I'm a heavy vaper, fill my tank at least 3xday. I tried cleaning and dry burning and taking out a flavor wick. But it keeps happening. Help!!!

Hello and congrats on making the switch.

Dark ejuices then to gunk up everything. Sorry, but that is the way it is. Maybe trying a carto tank would do you better? Once, the tank is purchased then all you need to do is replace the cartomizer. Slight learning curve, but def a cheaper options as cartos(punched) can be purchased at a box of 5 for around 6.00. Just placed an order for some. I will post the link in a few mins. Have to find it again. Most vendors charge around 2-3 dollars for one punched carto. Or you can buy your own puncher and diy.

And they also have the same thing in a LR.

Hi julz and welcome to ECF. Yes, as Sugar_and_Spice said dark juices can gunk up coils very quickly. I don't know the Protank II, but if it can be dry burned that would be what I would try to get good at. I used to use CE4 clearomizers. They can be dry burned many times. I used to put my gunky juices in those. Best of luck with it!

Hi, and thx. I'm using a Protank2 and am changing the coil heads. Are we talking about the same thing?

No, I have the protank and do like it. The carto tank use a cartomizer which is a different type of tank. Here is an example

take a look at these and I edited the original post to where you can find cartomizers.

Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks

The reason I am suggesting these for darker flavors is that they may last a bit longer than the protank because they have cotton like filler in them. They hold the flavor better. They will gunk up but not as quickly. And may be a little cheaper in the long run.
Hope this makes sense.
:)

Thx ryedan. I just checked out her link, now I know what yinz are talking about. The pt2 can be taken apart and cleaned, and I learned how to dryburn the wicks. Maybe I'll try using CLS in my original rcs , but I'm afraid that it won't taste as good in the plastic tank. I think it may be burning the juice, cause it gets real dark. Wonder if it's the ohms, 1.8, and wattage 3.7?

Could be you are running it a little hot. The link I provided are glass tanks, so no plastic taste.

Congrats on the quitting!!!

As the above poster said, you may be running a bit hot. With juice I had from Heathers Heavenly Vapes and Johnson Creek. HHV I was using Angels Kiss, a clear liquid, and Vanda from Johnsons Creek cream colored.
I was using a Kanger T2 top coil (long wick) at 1.8 Ohms, on a clone ego 1100mah battery, I found using them for a week that the juices would darken to black and lose flavor. I didn't realize at first but after I would clean them, I did notice the burning on the wicks.

Now with the CLS, I put it in a new Kanger T2 (2.5 Ohm)I had and then I ran it for 2 weeks before the liquid got that dark look and it lost flavor. I cleaned that and then reused, but it had lost some of the flavor and it the juice got dark after 2 days or 2 fills. This told me that I over used it before cleaning and basically I feel that I was at fault for that.

Now that just may be my experience, but I have had it happen to different juices. I am still learning about this stuff and figuring out how to best use my gear.

I am currently using 2.2 Ohm replacements for the T2s, due to my thoughts on the burning. The coil has been only in since sunday and I have filled it everyday, so far some slight discolorization but not blackening.

So far in one of my tanks that still has a 2.5Ohm, that I only fill every other day, no darkening, discoloration yes(this is from a yellowish colored juice).

I also just got a Vision Spinner 1300mah and a pro tank 2. I am only on my 3rd fill in it, as I use it only at home right now so I don't break the glass hehe. I've been doing CLS on that at 4.2v and seems to be where I like it.

Well I hope the above is helpful :)

Very helpful, thx. Since I don't yet have a VS, and am stuck at 3.7v, I think I'm going to switch to 2.2 ohm and see if that helps. CLS is just too delicious! Thx again :) and can u help me with my nicoticket banner?

I think the 2.2s will be better, they seem to be working for me, but I don't vape as much as you do :)

As far as the banner goes, you will need to have 15 posts first before you can add a banner. Just say hi in a few threads and you will have 15 in no time :)

Hi julz1962 - I wonder if the battery you're using is not regulated? All manufacturers (not just mods) like to call Li-Ion batteries "3.7v", when in reality they're 4.1-4.2v on a full charge, and 3.2-3.5v at near empty. I recently tested all my eGo-style batteries and was surprised to find that most of them are not regulated. I've found that those non-regulated batteries can burn my VapeOnly tanks with 2.2-ohm coils (that's about 8W).

Got a voltmeter handy? Charge it up, then test the voltage.
