Hi all!

I switched to vaping about 9 months ago to quit smoking, and for a long while I've had a great experience. It only gets iffy when I switched to setups that use coils rather than a straight up tank. They leak, taste burnt, and I end up having an awful time. It's happened across two different setups with two tanks and two different types of coils. Hope you can help the noob out!

Thanks!

Hi again

Sorry about that. I was using a kanger kbox mini with a vaperesso target tank and ceramic coils. I was previously using kanger tanks but the coils would dry hit every hit after only ten puffs, but I was using vg only (supposedly) liquid; the guys at the shop told me that pg was "plastic", and after a quick google search i decided I wouldn't go to them any more. I switched vendors and bought 'regular' liquid, but my coil turned black within two days. They're .6's running at only 20 watts (i don't know if running them too low would damage them) but anything higher gave me a burnt taste right from the start, even after priming and letting sit for twenty minutes. I even prepared one and let it soak overnight. same problem. This happened on both the vaporesso and kanger tanks. I finally broke down and went out and bought a iPV D3. It seems to be working well even at higher wattages, but whatever was wrong when I was using the kbox absolutley destroyed my coil, so I'm using a fresh one. The coils I'm currently using are ceramic, the ones in the kanger tank were not. Hope that helps!

Still too little info to judge what's going wrong. Here's the general idea of vaping.

First, I set my device to watts, but use volts as a general guideline as to what setting it should be. Go to ohms law calculator.... plug in the ohms of the coil you're using, then plug in the watts you're using them at then calculate. You should be below 5 volts as a general starting point.

PG and VG.. PG has a consistency like water, and VG has a consistency like vegetable oil. Some tanks have a harder time with the thicker juices wicking fast enough. The Kanger tanks have no problem with high VG juices, but that depends more on the coils you're using. The older square type coils tend to do better with the higher VG juices, but the newer ones, I've heard nothing but problems from them. Once you burn a coil, it's pretty much toast, and you either have to coil/wick it, or trash it... In other words, once you dry hit it, it's ruined.

Now, as far as the juice, I already told you about consistency. There can be other factors in juices that can turn your coils black. If I use one coil almost exclusively, it will last about 2 weeks for me before it starts degrading. This is with a known good juice. Some juices may have some sugars in them, which caramelize on the coils. Others have particles from the flavorings. I've noticed that some of my first juices would gunk up my coils quite quickly. I eventually found some that extend the life of the coil considerably. I'd try a different Juice/Juice company to see if that helps a bit. There's really too many variables to pin it down to one thing. If in doubt, try pure VG... VG leaves practically no residue, so if in doubt, test with VG for a tank to see what happens.

Some other questions.. what juice manufacturer/flavor are you using? What's the color of the juice (darker juices tend to gunk up faster)? show us your coil... do you have the airflow open or closed? how long of a "drag" do you take? how do you prime the coils?

Hey, sorry to intrude but I have some questions that somewhat relate to the original post. I use the target VTC 75W kit with 0.9 ceramic Kanthal coils around 30-35W and was wondering what the highest pg % I could use in it would be and have it work properly/not leak. Also I have that same question but for the cleito tank with 0.4 coils running at 43W on average. If you have a link that explains how to prime ceramic coils properly I'd greatly appreciate it. I feel like I've either been under/overpriming them. I prime the cleito just fine, but both tanks leak a decent amount through the bottom airflows using 50/50 or 60/40 pg/vg based juices. Thanks.

Sorry, I don't have either tank, nor do I have ceramic coils. I do know, that when I fill top filling tanks that screw on, the act of screwing on to refill pushes juice through the works and it usually leaks out the airflow. holding a towel and blowing the excess out right after filling usually works for me. If it leaks after that, there are other issues.

I use the ceramic cCells and have been for months. The correct way to prime them is to directly drip juice on the coil. Ceramic is very porous so I actually over saturate it. Next close off the airflow to the tank and take several good draws without pressing the power button on your PV. Let it sit about 15-30 minutes to fully saturate. Start out around 15W and move up slowly to break the coil in. I vape at least 1/2 tank at 15W and move up in 2W increments from there until I hit my sweet spot which is from 24-26W. Once it is broken in properly, it should last several weeks. Once it gunks up, it is easy to dry burn to clean.

Thank you both, and sorry if I'm being annoying, but I want to be 100% positive I'm doing it right. How many draws do you mean by several? Also, how long of draws and how hard do you suck? Also, what mod and tank are you using? All I have is the target VTC 75W starter kit with the .9 coils. Would the process be any different if you have a different pv? Do you drip juice onto the 3 sets of three holes on the sides of the coil or only the coil? Also, do you rinse the coil off after dry burning like in the video, and roughly how many drops of juice do you drip onto the coil? Lastly, what is the ideal pg to vg ratio for the coils and pv I'm using? I've been using 50/50 and it leaks through the airflows sometimes on the VTC. Sorry for the overload of questions but I want to make the most of this pv as its the only one I have.

Hi all. I was away for a bit and could nt get online. The one thing that's been consistent is that after dry hit I will loosen the glass party of the tank and see a few air bubbles out of the coil. This will give me one fresh hit with full flavor but then back to no taste/bunting. This happened on both tanks and the news mod I have so it's definably operator error. Juices seem to be high VG. Just ordered from halo cigs high pg. Will see how that goes
