New to vaping; Could use some help/opinions.

Hey everyone,
I'm Tyler and have been reading on these forums for a couple of days now. I have been smoking for 6 years, beginning at 15 years old. My girlfriend is pregnant (Due Feb. 1st) with my first child. I really want to quit smoking analogs and move to the vaping. I have purchased two disposable e-cigs that have lasted me about 2 days. Just wondering if there is a reliable source online for a starter kit, at a decent price. I have seen a lot of things about 510's and some other "code-like" terms on here. Just don't really know where to look to get started.

Hi Tyler welcome to ecf. 510 is the threading on the ecig and is the most popular, the other is 808 but a little harder to find. When you look at equip you want to know the threading and the mAh. 100 mAh =about 1 hour of vape time so a batt that says 1000mah should last quite awhile. How much did you smoke and how much do you want to spend? Does the size matter as most of the bigger batts last longer.? Usually the more it looks like a cig the less battery life it has.

Some may disagree but from my experience I'd go with a provari. It's expensive but i feel the initial investment is worth it in terms of quality. Not to mention they are build like a tank as well, I can't even begin to tell you the number of times I've dropped it on to concrete and it still works flawlessly.

The options for vaping gear are numerous and confusing; we also, unfortunately, often slip into ECF slang, which can make it even harder for new members. The first thing you need to consider is what are you looking for in vaping - are you a causal smoker, looking for something cigarette-sized, or do you tend to smoke at lot and want something that lasts longer that you primarily use at home? Expressing what is important to you can help other members give you specific advice. Budget is a consideration too.

I started by buying a few NJoy Kings, which were pretty good, but didn't last long enough to be cost effective. The Smokeless Image Volt has a pretty good reputation here for being a high-quality unit, having reasonable prices, and having great customer service. I bought one based on what I read in these forums, and my experience is consistent with what I expected based on the reviews. Go with the 78mm batteries, and buy a few extra so that you can charge them and while you're using them. (Their pcc gets mixed reviews, so I've steered clear of it and just invested in extra batteries and chargers.) This unit is called a KR808-D1, and it uses a kind of threading that will not screw into most of the popular, larger equipment (which uses a 510 thread). For me, the incompatability doesn't matter, because I keep my cigarette look-a-likes completely separate from my larger unit.

That said, some people would recommend going with something bigger than a cigarette look-a-like to increase your vaping satisfaction and increase you're chances of staying of cigarettes. This forum has a positively dizzying amount of information available on them. I got an eGo-V variable voltage with a passthrough charger, which means I can charge it while I'm vaping and adjust the power that it puts out. I use a 1.6ml clearomizer on it most of the time (I use SmokTech's dual coil carto when I'm in the mood for a cartomizer -- clearomizers and cartomizers provide slightly different experiences, over which there is (among some) something of a religious war; I like them both.)

You can go with either one or the other, or you can go with both. I went with both the cig-a-like (for being out-and-about) and the larger unit (for at home) I love it,. It cost a total of about $125 in total up-front investment, not including juice. Keeping it simple until you feel like you've got a handle on things get you some good stuff and set you up to be ready to invest your money wisely when the time comes to buy new vaping toys. (At least that's my theory.)

I smoke roughly a half a pack a day, but can get up to a full pack some days aswell. I spend a majority of my time at home, though I do want something I could use on my breaks at work. Another question I have is if I buy a specific brand of battery, are most of them universal to other brands of cartomizers/cartridges? I am not too worried about a cigarette look-a-like, it's more the obsession of smoking (former drug abuser) that I am addicted too.

Haha that is good to hear! Some of the devices on a few of the sites I have scene look quite creative and hi-tech. My thought on the electronic cigarette was that they all looked like a cigarette, and smoked the same lol. What kind of set up do you personally use if you don't mind me asking?

I think roughly $100 dollars would probably be the most (at this moment in time) that I could spend on a set up. Will this get me anything decent enough? Or would I be better saving money, and spending more to get something that won't crap out on me?

Yes the clearomizers are filled with juice and you just vape. I always recommend a vivi nova tank, it is one of the easier ones to start with. Screw off the top fill and vape. Some last longer than others. My vivi novas have lasted 5 mos now and I just rebuild the heads but thats a little advanced.

Ok thank you very much that is good too know. I want something universal that if I am running low on cartridges, I could possibly go to a headshop or something to grab a few until I can order some for cheaper online. Any brands of 510 compatible cartomizers anyone recommends?
