New to vaping. I have a quick question regarding clearomisers i've been using

Hello

I bought a beginners kit around a year ago but didn't really use it as I went back to smoking quickly after.

I've just encouraged myself to give it all a go again and I noticed the clearomiser I was using which is a ce5 had been burnt out (Probably through fault of my own think I tried vaping on it as soon as the liquid went in)

So I have gone and bought some MT3 clearomisers at 2.4ohms dual coil on my 4.2 volt battery and am noticing even though it is brand new there is little to no flavour that is coming out of the vapour. I am using totally wicked titan fluid and although I have let the liquid sit in the tank and get absorbed for a good hour when I tried it there was no flavour and pretty much a plasticy taste to it.

Any ideas here on what the issue is

I am fairly new to vaping myself but will see if I have anything to offer. Possible the juice you are using. Try diff brand or flavor. I have an evic supreme with the delta tank and I know that when I first change the coil, even after letting it sit and soak, and dry pulls, I will get a plastic taste for the first little bit. It does stop fairly quickly. When you first start with new coils, keep your wattage and voltage down. I find that for the first little while I run down at 3 volts for the first bit to get the coils going properly. If you run them to hot right off the hop, it can damage the coils. Depending on what setup I am using, some tanks and coils cannot be run as hot. The evic can run as high as 27.5 watts with the delta tank. When I first start after letting it sit, the first 20 -30 pulls I am at 3 volts. Then gradually increase as the coils get broke in til I find my sweet spot. Do that with all my setups. These are things I have learned from reading and trial and error and they seem to work for me! Hope it helps

my battery's one of those beginner ones so there isn't a way to change the voltage unless i'm missing something its set at a constant 4.2 volts. another question is have i chose the right resistance with it being 2.4 ohms on that voltage I don't know at all haha

If you're getting acceptable vapor but no flavor, I would have to guess it's the juice. If it's not wicking well, you might get some vapor, but it would taste burned, very nasty flavor, not plastic flavor. I use MT3 tanks a lot when I need something small to carry with me and have no problems with them at all, but...I rebuild them and use cotton wicks. If you have a variable voltage battery, as suggested above it might help to try going up on the power in increments.

Do you have anything other juice to try?

Three things:

  • Clearomizers of the type that you are using will often mute flavor because they are using silica as the wick, notorious for not being a good flavor carrier. Only the new vertical coil/ceramic wick Aspire Mini Nautilis has the ability to provide top notch flavor.

  • You could just have some low flavored juice. There's as big a difference in e-liquid flavors as there are in juice delivery attachments. Try some flavors from some other manufacturers.

  • You likely have vaper's tongue. After years of smoking your taste buds have been temporarily damaged. They should heal over time, but until then you may have some trouble appreciating most flavors. Try some of the stronger flavors such as cinnamon and mint. Also practice good oral hygeine, try using some Biotene, and drink plenty of water to keep your mucous membranes moist.

another quick question could it be down to the fact that i did buy 5 MT3's off an ebay seller for £6 is there a slight possibility that these are fake. If i was to go for another clearomiser what would you suggest on the grounds of my battery being at 4.2 volts. i want one with a good lifespan and is rebuildable. what resistance would you recommend also

2.4 ohms is pretty much "standard" resistance. Lower ohms, maybe 1.8 or 2.0 ohms, if available, would give you a warmer vape and might improve the flavor a touch, it's kind of whatever you prefer. I would guess that you did end up with fake clearomizers at that price (don't know the exact dollar-pound exchange rate).

Your battery is kind of a limiting factor, adjustable power would be a nice addition if you buy another. The iTaste VV3 or MPV are pretty highly recommended around here and aren't terribly expensive. VV3 is about the same size as an ego battery, MPV is a box mod, bigger but with a very large battery.

Somewhere out there
Are your MT3 clearos the ones with the black plastic mouthpiece? I found those to add a "plasticy" taste to everything, mine may have been fakes too. The ones with clear plastic mouth pieces are better, but better yet is to get a glass tank with a metal mouthpiece or removable drip tip.

As Baditude mentioned, silica wicks aren't the best for carrying flavor, although some of the newer coil designs do pretty well. Or if you care to get into tinkering with gear, you can swap out just the wick with cotton for better taste. If you don't want to tinker, look at some of the new Kanger and Aspire glass tanks.
