Im so excited to have found this forum! I have stopped smoking analogs 10 days ago and went from patches to vaping last Saturday (5 days ago). I am still coughing up dark brown/greenish phlem, its the same stuff I coughed up when I smoked. How long is this supposed to last?

I decided to quit smoking because at the age of 25 I was diagnosed with COPD because my parents smoked in the house & car & I started smoking at 14. Now im almost 30 and I was admitted to the hospital because a minor cold morphed into a severe respiratory infection. It felt like someone was smothering me, yet no one was touching me, like dry drowning. It was terrifying. I called the quit line & cut back on the smoking until the patches & gum arrived. I started with the patch & 1 -3 analogs a day, which is down from a pack a day.

Saturday I finally went & got set up to vaping only. I got a few fun & tasty flavors, and one menthol to replace the Menthol cigarettes I used to smoke. Only the menthol juice causes me to cough up the dark brown phlem that I had when I smoked analogs. I understand there is probably quite a bit of junk that my lungs are trying to purge from the last sixteen years, but how long can this last, is there a way to expedite the cleansing? I just want the cough to go away.

Thanks for having me!

I can't help with the coughing. I was fortunate enough to never really have smokers cough even though I smoked a PAD for about 25 years. I did get bronchitis every year really bad up till this fall when I quit and went to full time vaping. This is the first time I was also able to taste Thanksgiving dinner in years!

I did just want to say congrats! Best of health to you!

^agree. It varies from person to person. If you don't have a problem doing cardio, it will help speed the process in my experience. It took around 2 weeks to lose my normal smoker's cough and another 4 weeks for my coughing fits to cease immediately following a good run (14yr smoker).

Edit: Also, vaping shortly after cardio seems to be a little painful in my experience. I think it's due to vaping closing up the lungs a little, but really have no idea.

Shay, congrats on getting rid of the smokes!! Best of luck on your health issues! Are you on meds of any kind for the COPD? There are others here who have it; perhaps some of them will chime in.

I smoked for 47 years and was just starting to have a persistent smoker's cough; cleared my throat a lot, etc. After about 2 weeks of no smoking, those both went away. I have much more energy now too.
