New to Vaping

Hiya!
I'm new to vaping and absolutely loving this forum, so informative. I did have one question tho, I'm hearing everyone rave about how awesome their e juices taste and i just cannot get any taste out of any of mine. I've tried all the suggestions I've read, keeping myself hydrated, eating something strongly flavored and even sticking my nose in coffee beans, but i just cannot get any of my juices to taste like anything other than warm. slightly sweetened air. I've tried two different brands of e juice in six different flavors including a menthol, a tobacco, a coffee and several fruit ones, but they all taste identical, i.e of nothing. I know people say that as your taste buds recover you go through flavorless phrases but it's been this way from the very start, about a week ago.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome.

Honestly, it may just take time. I smoked for 40 years and for at least the first 3 months or so of vaping all I could taste were menthol, strong mints and cinnamon. Luckily, I found a flavor with all 3 early on that has been my mainstay. I didn't have a very good sense of smell as a child, which largely contributes to ones sense of taste, so while I was very disappointed that I couldn't taste the complex flavors I heard others raving about, I wasn't completely surprised. Still, I was annoyed that with hundreds of dollars spent on juice, I couldn't find another flavor I liked nearly as much. I got to the point where my 2nd ADV was unflavored, since it didn't leave me depressed at not tasting more (unflavored does actually have I mild taste, which I've become fond of).

Then, little by little I began tasting more flavor notes and that has continued. I've been vaping since July 2012 and was quite surprised that recently I starting tasting some flavors I didn't before. It doesn't seem to last, I can taste the flavor for the first few puffs then it fades, but at least it's something. Good luck to you. :)

Welcome to ECF!! .:toast:

My experience was similar to The Ocelot, the first 9 months or so of vaping all I could taste were strong menthol, strong mints and licorice. As my taste bud recovered from the 40 years of abuse I can taste so much more in different flavors and strength of flavors. My early purchases of juice always had extra flavor shots, to no avail. Ran across a couple forgotten bottles from years past and can't believe I ever vaped anything that strong.

Hang in there and it does get better, much better....:)

I smoked for 20+ years and was fortunate enough that I didn't have that problem. But you also have to consider your gear. I love my drippers and most of them taste great. What bothers me is that if I pick up my old eGo styled batteries and clearomizers that I thought tasted so good when I bought them...I taste warm air. Not sure what I will do if I get desensitized to my drippers...start dripping straight flavor additive maybe?

The first few months and especially the first few weeks can be a bit of a ride on your tastebuds.
You'll probably find yourself using strong flavors initially.

Thank you! I will! And maybe I'll pick up a licorice or something

I don't really know what I'm doing gear wise, i did wonder if that was it. I just picked up a starter kit from the market by me post a cigarette based argument with my SO. I have a HS vampormx GT, but I'm wondering if it's just a bit crappy and that's why i can't taste anything? Is that possible?

One thing you can try before you get caught up in all of the RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer) suggestions that will certainly be posted, is direct dripping on a 510 or 306 atomizer. You don't have to build coils or get a more advanced mod. I have a blog going into detail about the method: Drip, Drip, Drip…

ETA: I looked up the HS vapourmx GT and it's an eGo-style with a version of variable voltage. I say "version," because when you see variable voltage referred to on the forums it generally means devices where the voltage can be set quite precisely; whereas your device has settings for low, medium and high.

Googled your setup, and from the pictures it appears to be an eGo type battery with a clearomiser, resonably goo kit, and far better than I started with. A different clearomiser / topper may help somewhat, tough to predict.

Some menthol drops may help. They are a concentrated menthol flavoring that you can add one or two drops to your juice to strengthen it. I used it starting out and added so much that when the juice was cold some menthol crystals started forming in it....no it not a good thing... A little bit goes a long way.

I will definitely pickup some menthol drops in that case. This might be a stupid q, but whats a topper? It is the name of the mouth piece bit? Thank you for the advice :)

"Topper" has become a catchall term for juice devices screwed on top of the battery. We've struggled for quite awhile for a general term ("Juice Delivery System" while accurate, is a pain to type) and topper seems to be what is used at the moment.

The mouth bit is called a "Drip Tip."

I also searched the HS vampormx GT

- HS VAPOURMX GT GOLD - Kingsway E Cigarettes

seems as it should get the job done

it is variable voltage

are you 3-clicking to get the volts setting high enuff ??

LOW GREEN - 3.2V
MED PURPLE - 3.7V
HIGH RED - 4.2V

maybe a case of 'vapors tongue'

but I think I'm gonna look for a bottle of 'butter twinkies'

got a strange craving for some reason...

Topper is a more generic term for the clearomiser, glassomiser, atomizer, tank, carto, RDA or RTA you attach to the battery to hold and heat the eliquid. And as you can surmise from the number of types there's a lot of options, some easy to use, others for someone that loves to fiddle around with tiny parts....:)

two points to the ocelot! i haz beated u twiced.

Those are still pretty low settings. Even Twists/Spinners go to 4.8v. That said, I quit just fine with a Joyetech standard eGo which fires at 3.2v.

agree

but if a noobie, default is probably 3.2v and OP doesn't know

3.2 would be like nothing, so just a thought...

4.2 would at least let ya know something is happening... :D
