Different type for sure.
At least you didn't get taken for a ride, unless the UK price is significantly higher, but the US price compares with alot of other more desirable starter kits.
In the UK, the only supplier I know about is TECC (The Electronic Cigarette Company) link in the supplier section, obviously there should be more UK ones.. but since I don't live there I don't search them out.. forgive my ignorance.
As far as a more desirable choice at the same price point, I'd say the 510, it's widely regarded as the starter PV of choice around these forums, and most people will suggest it without hesitation. It's a solid model, crap battery life however, but solid model none the less, with great vapor production and depending on your liquid, great taste.
I'd venture to assume that you got a possibly bad batch of carts, or your atty is slightly burning your carts to produce such a repulsive taste, or it just flat out IS the carts. It is, however, entirely possible that you just have a bad unit. Which is of course, unfortunate that you can't get the company to respond to you, which is a bad indication that they actually know their product sucks.
As far as refilling, or whatnot there's a few options out there, if say, you decided to go with a 510 model. 510 is normally a 3 piece model like most PV's. It comes with a cartrdige, prefilled or empty, an atomizer, and a battery. There's 2 types of batteries for the 510, a mega and the regular. The mega is about 2.5cm longer than the normal and lasts twice as long.. partially curing the main problem with a 510. The normal batteries last around 2 hours of general use, longer if you vape less of course. The high point to the battery however, you get the same power from the first puff to the dying one, where as other similar style PV's will lose potency.
Anyways, back on track...
Your main options for flavors/juices will depend on what you use, and how much you like to mess with it. Right now it's pretty much a toss up for what the majority of folks use here, there's some of each. Some folks refill their cartridges with juice, some use cartomizers (which can be refilled with a little work) and some direct drip into the atomizer. The E-60 obviously is a cartridge based model, and can theoretically be refilled.. but without actually being able to see the inside of the cart myself, I can't say for 100%. Usually a cartridge has some polyfill or some form of batting inside that you can pull out and squeeze out in a paper towel or somesuch to get all the other juice out so you can drip whatever you want into it.
Doing this wrong can flood your atomizer quickly and cause problems, however. Since the E-60 appears to be an auto, direct dripping is out of the question since it's far too easy to have that turn bad.. plus the atomizer itself is not a drip friendly design. Cartomizer is an atomizer+cartridge combo available for multiple models, however I can't recall all the models that have them offhand. 510 does I know for sure have cartomizers available, and in more than just straight tobacco flavors. This doesn't matter as much since you can buy blanks and fill them yourself... not to mention there are a few easy ways to fill them since they're designed to actually be sealed and throwaway items once they're out. Most people find they can be reused quite a bit before they need to chuck em, saving money overall.
Now, having said that, and you're not looking to buy the cheapest entry PV on the market.. I'd say have a good look at the Tornado/eGo model, it's a superior model to the 510, and it still uses 510 atomizers. The battery life is drastically increased, and the overall look has been changed, it doesn't look as much like a normal cig but still has the cylindrical profile. It'll run you about twice as much as a 510 kit will, but the difference between 2hours of battery life vs 6-8 hours of battery life cannot be measured in a few tenners.
Well.. I guess it can. Hm.
