Hey all

Quick background story - smoked from age 15 to age 42, around 15 - 20 per day...27 years in all...not even 1 attempt to quit/cut back on the ciggies

Decided to buy a starter kit...quit the fags on 20th Dec 2013 and started vaping at 18mg, went down to 11mg in one PV after 3 weeks, 18mg in the other....was going really well, no problems there!

Had my last vape at midnight on Sunday night, woke up Monday morning and suddenly felt inspired to quit vaping also, or at least see how nicotine dependent i am and how easy the process to quit would be!

I've only been a day and a half nicotine free and its harder than i thought, most people think its way too early...and yeah i'm aware they're prob right but something's pushing me to keep going

Any advice/tips etc greatly appreciated..

I have a medical condition that is negatively affected by nicotine withdrawal (a few of us here do), so if you do tough it out for a time, but notice anything going on that doesn't get better, be sure to a physical. I do believe a lot of us would like to be free of nic completely, so best of luck to you!! If doesn't work, use vaping to control and cut back your nic gradually, since it's easy to closely adjust the level of nic...like Debra said, keep your vape equipment ready to roll if you need!!

Going cold turkey can certainly be a challenge to overcome the cravings for nicotine. It's been said that this addiction is one of the toughest to overcome, even more than .......

You have options. I'd suggest keeping a PV handy with some nicotine e-liquid should you need it periodically. Should the craving for a fix get too strong, its better to use the e-cig than possibly break down and buy some cigarettes. Cigarettes are far too easy to find and use and the temptation can push you over the edge.

You can always use 0-nic flavors in your e-cig if its the hand-to-mouth/inhale sensation that you miss, and not so much the nicotine itself.

I would recommend a more gentle slope for cutting back the nic. Also, rather than having the goal be to eliminate vaping itself, make the goal to eliminate nic, if that's what you want. By getting various nicotine strengths, you can effectively blend any amount you want and make the transition VERY gradual. I wouldn't recommend a > 3 mg step in less than about a week. So perhaps go from your 12 and 18 to something like 9. Now that you've been off for a day and a half, hitting some 9 or even 6, would definitely take the edge off. Then once you feel pretty good again, try knocking it down to 6, then 3. Once you're at 6, or less, I think you'll find this process much easier.

Now that you got rid of analogs, there should really be no rush at all to get rid of vaping. Take your time and don't allow yourself to get stressed.

Hey there! Welcome to ECF!

I've been nicotine-free since Thursday. Now lucky (?) for me, I came down with a really bad cold the week before last and wasn't able to vape for about 4 days. It was during that time that I decided that I may not need the nicotine...that it was probably more of the hand to mouth fixation for me. Since I'm crazy, I decided to go from 18mg to 0mg overnight.

It hasn't been that tough for me, but I think it's because I'm still vaping. While the 0mg doesn't give me the throat hit that the 18mg gave me, I still see the vapor and it kind of psychologically tricks me into thinking I'm getting nicotine. May not work for everyone, but it's something you may want to consider. I only reach for it a couple times a day, so I'm certainly not using it as often as I was when I was using the 18mg juice.

If life hits the fan, I wouldn't punish myself for using a little bit of the 18mg. At the end of the day, vaping ANY level of nicotine is better than going back to cigs. Good luck on your journey - don't be too hard on yourself! :)

The toxins have barely left your system but if this is your choice wishing you the Best of Luck. A year ago I was supposed to quit on New Years- didn't happen and it was no big deal. Quit last Sept. after 2 yrs and still have the occasional vape at parties, stressful situations or weekends....took me 2 years to cut my Nic down and although I still rarely vape Dr. is very pleased.
After 2 yrs I found the hardest habit to break was the hand to mouth action- before I quit I lined up a bunch of enjoyable projects to keep my hands busy.
Best of Luck and stay in touch.
