Well thanks for the info! looks like I'll be avoiding those units.

Also, I hate startin 20 new threads for basically the same subject: ME, right after I join a forum, so I'm just gonna keep posting in this thread, for now.

I just got off work, 22 hours and about 100 miles of driving. I didn't really regulate my vaping, only taking a toke(s) when I felt the desire. I normally smoke ALOT while driving. I have found that I puff less times in a row while vaping, just more constantly.
I would normally have smoked just over 3 packs of newports under these circumstances. I kept a loose count of my vaping today; I started out with a full cart, and just topped off as needed keeping track. I went through both batteries, and used about 55 drops of juice. This is about 2.75ml? @18mg, that would be ~50mg of nic? I understand that absorption of nic from vaping is different than analogues, BUT, 1 newport is ~1.2mg nic, so.... equivalent of just over 2 packs of analogues?

Just throwing it out there.

And forgive me if i'm not making sense, I'm tired.
In fact, I'm off to see the wizard now.

And BTW do not believe what ripoff rebranders say about how long one carto lasts - they exaggerate.
I believe that these claims are not really exaggerating so much as purposely misleading.

I think what they might be doing is saying that a cartridge has as many milligrams (mg) of nicotine as a pack of cigarettes.

So therefore if you ignore the possible fact that we absorb far less nicotine from using electronic cigarettes as compared to cigarettes, you can potentially say that a cartridge could equal a pack of cigarettes. Of course, that is only if you consider that you would have to be taking only like two drags off your electronic cigarette and pretending that you have just smoked a cigarette.

So yeah, if you only take around two drags every time you would normally have a cigarette, it may last as long as a pack.
And if you absorbed the same amount of nicotine from an electronic cigarette as you do from a real cigarette... there's your one pack.

Notice they never actually say it will "last as long" as a pack of cigarettes, though.
They always say it is "equivalent" to a pack of cigarettes.

And that's probably true, as long as you conveniently ignore absorption rates.

SOOOOO,
I just loaded up a fresh cart with choc/almond and cleaned the atty.
I think the Joye wasn't working well because I hadn't let the atty prime.
I can taste the flavors fairly well when I puff, and just blow it right out of my nose, but still not what I had expected. I think it's the VG, from what I've heard.
I did load up a fresh cart and clean atty for coconut PG; way stronger flavor, pretty good. But now I feel like my mouth is diseased with all the raw skin. Looks like I'll be sticking with VG (although my wife tells me I just got my Nhaler's Nuport PG sample in the mail). If I like it, I think I'll get some plain VG base/18mg, and add "flavor doublers" to get the Nuport flavor.

I only worked 13hrs yesterday, but there was a lot of driving: 45 drops for the day.

Can I use things like liquor, vanilla extract, etc for DIY flavoring? I really wanted some vanilla with that coconut, and didn't know if it would be safe to add a drop of pure vanilla extract to the cart (with 8-10 drops of coconut PG)?

TTYS!

Some people put in a little vodka or everclear to get a little better throat hit. I never heard of anyone doing it for flavor. There's a reason you can't use vanilla extract but, it escapes me now. Most extracts aren't strong enough. By the time you get enough in there to make a difference, you have something that won't vape. You can buy the concentrated DIY flavors and do some doctoring though.

IDK if it was on purpose, but Nahler's sent me a 30ml bottle of Nuport: FOR $4 +ship (supposed to be 6ml)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that's a deal!

Flavor is ok, BUT, it's %100 PG, and it's 24mg. Closer to Newports, but still not really. My wife toked it and thought it was quite strong (I was ok with it). I didn't mind it when I mixed it with the LFlights menthol mix.

FWIW

Oh, I figured I would brag for a moment (even though I have issues). I got:

SS Riva510, 10 carts, 2 LR atty's, usb charger (with home usb power supply), and 2 batteries
Black Joye 510, 5 prefilled carts, 2 atty's, home charger, 2 batteries
60ml of "menthol blend"
5 mil chocolate
5 mil almond
5 mil coconut
all 18mg strength
For $109 delivered (I found a coupon code on the internet that ended up being %20 off the total order)

Nice. I have the same model of Riva. You just can't beat Liberty Flights pricing.

I've been using the Riva everyday since November. It charges like a champ, fires every time, and has been a good, dependable device for me.

If you decide you like the Riva, you will want to purchase some extra atomizers from Liberty Flights. While it took months for me to finally wear my original atomizers out, it's a good idea to have spares.

I also have some of this stuff on hand to refill my cartridges when I clean them out.
Marineland Rite-Size U Bonded Foam Sleeve Sleeves

Keep the Riva clean (I blow out the atomizer once a day and replace cartridges with fresh ones every day as well) and it should perform very well for you for months to come.

Good luck!

Absolutely!
I'm glad to hear you think it a good unit. I just reviewed it after purchase on their site.
I agree with it being a fantastik little unit as well about the atties. I actually have to read his reply open in another tab about exchanging my wifes joye 510 for a 5 pack of atties. I plan on color coding them with heat shrink or bio dye (or probably a sharpie, cause I've got them right here). I'm an efficiency freak, and have used and cleaned the 2 atties that came with the kit every day. Rinse in warm water, blow it out, 10 minutes in %91 isopropyl alcohol, rinse, blow, rinse, and blow. DUN.

Being the hands on guy I am, I'm trying to find some sort of metal pocket sized case (analogue cases are a bit small, or cheaply made) to line with some HDPE foam that's been custom cut (like the foam from the nice box it came in) for exactly what I want to carry, sort of a mini ballistic case. Leather would be cool, too, with some self snapping magnets or something. I think it would wear well and look cooler with age.

12+ days into it, and still smoke free.

I have the low resistance (LR) atties, and VG based juice.
I was smoking 2 packs per day, and now I vape about 2ml of juice per day. So FOR ME, 1ml=1pack (18mg strength).
i keep my cart topped off every 5 drops or so.
My riva 510 battery lasts for about 1ml of juice (or about 12 hours of the day) (it's about 700 or 800 mah, I forget)
I clean my atty(s) at leas every other night as I described earlier in this thread.

I got two atties with my kit, and I've just about killed one of them. I keep 1 type of juice in a cart on an atty, and swap them as a unit when I want to change flavors. I vape less than 2 cartridges of coconut per day, just to mix things up a bit (mind you that's only about 8 or 10 drops for me), and that has always been on the 2nd atty. I've been using the 1st atty (since I received it) for the menthol mix, at 2ml per day. After 12 days and about 24ml-28ml, that atty barely makes vapor.
Is this normal for a LR atty/Riva 510? I just thought I would've got 2+weeks out of an atty (actually, I my impression before starting e-cigs was ~30 days).
Also, I have noticed metal flakes in the bottom of the small ramikin I used for the alcohol/atty soak.

(please realize i'm trying to post answers and questions that I was asking before i knew what to ask or expect, so some other newer noob can read it and gain from my experience)

Thanks agian!

I think Coconut is an oil-cased flavoring. I think oil-based flavoring like citrus, coconut, cinnamon might cling more to atty.

Did you blow the atty out well? And how are you cleaning them? I cannot find where you say how you are cleaning.

re PG and VG - try blends. My mouth would get sore with 18mg nic in 100% PG. But with 70pg/30vg I still got plenty of flavor and TH plus more vapor and minus the irritation. Some people like more or less VG in their juices.

hi interestingfellow, thanks for asking these questions, I'm waiting for the arrival of my Riva 510 and I'm finding the responses to your post very useful :)

Hi Orph - Waiting is tough ! I am not a patient person :) You must keep us updated and let us know how you like your Riva 510. I have Riva 510 and Riva SE 510's and I love them all. Hope you will find yours as dependable and enjoyable as I am finding mine.

H, Could be time to try cartomizers(atty+cart in one piece). Lots of members use the lr 2.0 cartomizers, but I like the 2.5

That way you won't have to put juice in every 5-10 drops. Just saying...

@dormouse:
The menthol (which was used in the atty gone bad) was VG based (the atty that is still good was the coconut one, but I think that it's still good due to the fact that it only had <1ml/day vaped through it)
the coconut is PG (that was used in the atty that got little use, and is still producing great amounts of vapor)
I have now retired the first atty, and am using the second atty (that I had kept aside for the coconut) as my only atty (which is menthol VG).

I clean my atty as follows:
hot tap water rinse, blow, rinse, blow (with my mouth, not compressed air or anything)
soak in 91% isopropyl alchohol for 2-5 minutes, blow, soak 2-5 more minutes
Rinse in under hot tap water, blow, rinse, blow, rinse, blow
air dry for 5 minutes
prime with a drop of juice (on the arch only), add my cart and vape away.

I don't know why, but the Coconut produces 20%+ more vapor (probably the PG vs the VG of the menthol blend)

When I was trying friends PV's and mall kiosk PV's, I had issues with sores in my mouth even from vaping less than 1 cartridge of PG, so I've been staying away from it. The coconut PG doesn't really bother me too much now; my impression is that many people who start out sensitive to PG end up being ok with it after using VG for a while.

I returned my wife's joye 510 (manual bat) and will use the credit to pick up a 5 pack of LR 510 atties, as well as some PG 12mg menthol blend. I plan on mixing it with the 18mg VG menthol I have, reducing my nicotine to 15mg/ml and creating a 50/50 juice that should vape better (I hope).

I also have 30ml of nhalers PG nuport, but it's 24mg. I'll do something with it when I run low on and/or after this batch of juice.

@sugar_and_spice
I don't know why, but I don't like the idea of cartomizers: like I said, not sure why.....
I have been considering trying a smart cart, as I have come to realize I waste a drop or two every time I refill my cart (that works out to be about 5ml per 30ml bottle!). I keep a napkin handy for that specific purpose (so as not to create nicotine tainted waste). A smart cart holds about 1ml, so realistically, I should only have to refill it twice per day (instead of twice an hour).

TTYS! Thanks!

Bet you'd react like Dracula to a crucifix, if you saw a go-go. :D I think cartos are less messy and less trouble than carts myself though. Pretty much all the tank systems have gotten mixed reviews. I hope you're one of the ones that like them.

Well, I like affordable. If the carts are -15% or $better$ than cartomizers, then I'm willing to deal with mess.... I'm gonna go do some math in a bit, and see if the cost of x is more or less than the cost of y.

*EDIT*Do they even make 510 LR cartomizers?*EDIT*

Yes they do! http://www.liberty-flights.com/product.asp?id=72
How long do you think one of the boge LR 510's would last (say, in comparison to a cart and LR atty combo, like I got)?
