New vaper, looking for new options.

Let me first say, I really wish i had found this forum BEFORE I bought my first PV, and this is my first post here. That aside, I'd like to tap into you guys knowledge.

Background:
I've only been vaping for a week now(been analog free since then, not looking back), but I stayed on what I would call the "cautious" side of starting vaping. I know v2cigs is a bit of a bad word here from my digging but i decided to try their "powercig" as my first PV, which all in all, I'm pretty happy with. If you're not familiar, its a 5v USB powered PV, not sure if it qualifies as a passthrough since it doesn't have a battery at all, using kr808d-1 cartos. Pretty basic, but it gets the job done, and the price was right. I don't want to replace it just yet, I think I'll do that when i hit a big milestone. I'm now totally a convert, love vaping, ordered a bunch of juice, and now I'm looking for a portable PV that i can take to work with me, to avoid the dreaded smoke breaks. My current corded PV really cant help me there.

Question(s):
I want to get a "real" PV that I can take to work with me, something with batteries and so on. Battery life doesn't need to be insane, I only have about an hour of real time combined all day where I used to smoke, so its not a big gap. I can cover the rest with the one I have. I'd like to be able to use my 808 cartos on whatever PV I end up with, but I don't have enough cartos built up to call it a necessity, i just like the way they vape. It seems like people "grow out" of the 808's eventually, so I'd like to hear from some experienced people if they're worth hanging on to. In you guys and girls opinion, do the 808's have enough staying power with refills/mods/ect to stick with that style for my first batt PV? Do they vape as well on 3.xv as I'm getting now at 5? I don't need a ton of battery time, I just need a good vape. Do I bite the bullet and just get an eGo? What I'm looking for is just a powerful portable with a short to medium battery life. Extra points for realism, but truthfully I'm over cigarettes in general so also not hugely important.

What you have is a passthrough and it should last you a good long time. I have a 510 5v PT and I really love it. I also have a Riva/ego and love them too but they are only 3.7v (3.2 realistically). Now that you are use to a 5v you probably won't be happy with a 3.7v PV. I don't know what price range you're looking at so I can't very well recommend a specific PV but you can't go wrong with a variable voltage PV if you can afford one. Thanks for the super quick reply tmcase! For the moment I think I'd prefer to stick to the more "novice" priced gear, kind of develop my tastes, then zero in on some great gear when I actually know what I want. There's just so much out there. The advanced gear is tempting, but i don't want to get in over my head just yet, still way new to this.

For most new vapors I usually recommend an ego or ego clone for a portable vape. I have never used 808s so I cant recommend a good vape for that connection. As tmcase said a 3.7v or lower device most likely will not be satisfying compared to using a 5v passthrough.

I would say you have two options. The cheapest would be to buy a 3.7 device and use a low resistance atomizer which will feel about the same as your 5v passthrough. ORR you can get a mod which will allow for the 5v experience or higher. Your best bet as a new vapor would be going the cheaper route. Mods can be expensive and are best used to fill a need..such as high mah battery for long batter life or a juicebox for vaping ease.

Regardless there is tons of info on ECF and many helpful people that can steer you in the right direction.

Hi Ex-V. Welcome.

The easiest way to use your kr808 cartos is to get kr808 batteries. They come in penstyle at 3.7V , regular or XL versions (~2hrs- 4hrs battery life). These batteries have the greatest punch in a small size battery. I believe the 808 cartos will also fit the 901 Riva (3.2 V) They're fat batteries that are roughly cigar sized with a long battery life. With either you will notice a difference from the 5V PT. I'm not aware of a 5V small battery PV. Usually anything over 3.7V requires a PT or a mod. But as NOObx7 says, LR cartos will mimic the warmth of 5V (they usually have 510 threads- so you could use a 510 threaded battery)

If you see other batteries that you like that don't have 808 connectors, you can get always get an inexpensive adaptor. I started vaping using kr808d-1 batteries and cartomizers and used them exclusively for the first 8 months.

Of course they have many different kits and e-cigs, all able to have the 20% off applied to them. It's worth it to have a look around. Depends whether they're in stock or not. If what you want isn't in stock, perhaps shooting them an email to ask them to notify you when it is would work out.

The Riva is what I'm using and getting tons of vapor off of it. I personally don't get "throat hit" but then, I really don't want it. Throat hit is what I used to call harsh in analogs

From what I've read, if you follow the other poster's advice and get a LR attie you should get decent throat hit and vapor while you continue to look around.

If you just looking for good 5v for a cheap price ive heard a lot of good things about the Big Kazoo from kalamazoovaposhop.com its nothing fancy dont know if thats important to you. I started with 808 cartos then switched to 510 but either way you decide to go you can pick up an adapter for a couple bucks

You can continue to use your 808 cartomizers on a 5 volt PV, you just need to get a 510 to 808 adapter for $2.50: Adapters

That's why I suggested the PV from Ken's = $37 is in the entry level price and is as simple to use as his current 5 volt pass-through.

I'm also very new to vaping. I bought a joye 510 kit last year and ended up going back to analogs. I tried quitting with my old gear again about three weeks ago. Same frustrations as I had last year. Not enough flavor, vapor, or nicotine (24mg) juice. I started doing research to buy better gear when I ran into 510-T's! I bought a LR Atty with the first 510-T and within 30 min of playing with both, I ordered a second 510-T! What a difference! Best part about it is that my batteries and pass thru were not wasted.

The last two weeks I'm exclusive with the tanks and have slowed down a 30 analog habit to 2 or 3 a day. I'm committing to no more analogs past this weekend and have no concerns that I won't be able to quit like I had in the past with my old gear. The tank system IS what I though vaping was supposed to be. As I get more experienced I might find something better, but I highly recommend the tank system over the wicking systems to all novices.

Ego 510 with lr 510 and or 306 will be pretty close to high voltage vaping i started out with prodigy v3 6volts but found that ego with lr attys were satisfying enough alot smaller easy to carry around and battery life is great i have ego passthru battery which is great charge in car at the computer ect.

I seriously doubt you will be happy dropping down to a 3.7 volt device if you are used to 5 volts.

So you really need a 5 volt mod or if you can afford it maybe a variable voltage mod.
Especially if you intend to stick with your KR808D-1 cartomizers.

Wv2win made the same suggestions I would have made.

If you don't like the looks of either of those, there are some other 5 volt options available.
I've seen one vendor that sells a 5 volt battery that fits in any standard 18650 mod.
I forgot who that is but could look it up if you're interested.
