I am so glad I found this forum! Too bad it was after 2 weeks of you tube research and 6 hours after my 1st online purchase. My husband and I have both smoked for 25+ years. I am wondering what to expect with my 1st e-cig drag. I hear a lot about throat hits and vapor but that really does not tell me what to expect. How different is it from a cigarette drag? Should I take smaller inhales at first so that I don't choke on it? I guess I will figure it out when our packages arrive but with so many friendly helpful people here I figured I would ask.

Thanks

May I suggest that you draw the vapor in your mouth first before you inhale. A direct lung inhale may choke you up a little initially.
Do not buy a bunch of juices in one mg of nic. You may find your needs lower than you may think and be stuck with a boatload of juice you can't use.
You never said what gear you ordered so I can't help there but nontheless, welcome to ECF!

Hello there! I'm still pretty new at this myself, but the questions I have are, What kind of device? What kind of cartomizer/clearomizer/tank? What kind of juice (PG/VG and nicotine level?)

I started with the "cig-a-likes". Tiny battery with pre-filled cartomizers. Low-level nicotine (smoked Camel Crush Blues for the past few years, and crushed for the menthol - can't stand non-menthol) I could get a drag that provided some vapor that almost simulated the amount of smoke I could blow off a regular cig. Throat Hit is kind of a new concept for me here too. I'm not real crazy about that massive "tickle" in the back of my throat - instantly makes me cough. I've upgraded my equipment and now have a Vision Spinner 1300, iTazte VV3, and an iTazte MVP2. Using mostly EVOD tanks (got a Mini Protank 2 last weekend) and typically juices that are 60pg/40vg or 50/50. Nic is anywhere from 0-10.

The higher nic juices hit my throat a little harder than even my cigarettes ever did. I often find myself pulling the vape into my mouth before I inhale/exhale. I'm rotating between 4 or 5 tanks this evening, and vapor production differs by coil resistance and flavor of juice. Try pulling into your mouth first (you'll be able to let the flavor roll around your tongue a little). I probably wouldn't advise trying to vape a cloud the size of your head at first LOL.

Patience, Grasshopper :) Start lightly and learn the feel. It will soon become 2nd nature.

Welcome, and best wishes on your (and your husband's) journey

I'm not familiar with the volt. The volt I assume will be cig-a-like will have a really short battery life. The ego will last a good bit longer. Vaping takes a little bit longer to get the feeling because the nic is absorbed dif than with smoking. I think 1.2 is a good starting place, but don't be afraid to go up some if you feel a bit off. The vapor will seem a bit denser than smoke which I really enjoy. Finding the right liquid is the toughest challenge. Don't get discouraged if you get some liquids that don't taste good. It happens to us all.

Congratuations on deciding to vape. And welcome to ECF.

Vaping is not like smoking. Take a gentle, slow, long draw on your e-cig.

New vapors may take some time to get used to vapor. It's not smoke, but vapor. When you took your first drags and actually inhaled a cigarette you likely coughed some. The same may be true with an e-cigarette. No cause for concern, your body will adapt just as it did when you first began smoking.

A FYI, the nicotine in vapor is mostly absorbed in the mouth, throat, and nasal passageways. Not in the lungs. Therefore its important to use a "mouth inhale" for maximum absorbtion. Imagine sucking on a straw in a milkshake. Use your cheek muscles. Let it sit in your mouth for a second for maximum exposure and absorbtion. Then inhale whatever you feel comfortable inhaling.

Then during exhale, exhale some of the vapor through your nose. Again, more absorbtion of the nicotine. It also allows you to better "taste" the flavor. Your nose has as much to do with taste as your tongue. Remember when you have a head cold and your nose is all stopped up? You can't taste your food? The aroma helps you "taste" your food/vapor. You may find that you taste one flavor on the inhale and another on the exhale.

Drink plenty of water. The Pg (propylene glycol) and Vg (vegetable glycerin) in the e-liquid causes dryness of the mucous membranes, leading to dry mouth and a decrease in the ability to taste flavors.

Vape as much and as frequently as you like. Your body will tell you when you've had enough.

My guess is you got the better gear than your husband. The bigger the battery the better the vape. He'll be jealous of your eGo in no time.

Oops, I thought I did tell you what device we purchased. I tried to post links but it would not let me, I am not sure how to better explain it. I got the ego c starter kit from ecigsupply.com, the ivape ego twist express kit from ivape and the Volt standard starter kit from smokeless image.com. I looked on the site and could not find the pg/vg for the ivape liquids. Thank you all for the welcome.

I used Volts for quite a while myself and they kept me off the cigs. If your husband wants a bigger device Smokeless Image sell the X2 which is the same size as an ego - and the Spinner which is also ego size and has variable voltage - a way to control the temperature basically. So if he wants to later he can upgrade and use the same accessories. :) I still have my Smokeless Image Volts - I used them for months. I came off smoking 45-50 cigs a day.

Be aware that volts are 808 threading as far as I know unless that has changed and ego's are 510. Equip will not be interchangeable. I think the lady has a better deal.

Possibly - the 808 range is bigger than it used to be. I grabbed some 808-510 shorty adapters as well for my 808 stuff. In the long run he can get a Spinner or a 510 Ego if he wants. Or he may be content -I know guys who were quite happy with Volts for months. I was too.

Good to see you around too. :)

Hey Kiwi haven't seen you around in awhile. Welcome back. Not that it's a problem but they need to be prepared and have adapters or get same type equip. Most people here aren't aware of the different type threading. I started with 808 and quickly moved to 510 as there is so much more equip available. I do not like being tied to a supplier because their equip is the only type that works on a specific battery.

My life got/is sooo busy. Good - but busy.
I get what you're saying - good that adapters only cost a couple of bucks if the need arises. I have a bunch of different kinds but hardly ever use them now. They do come in very handy tho.

Welcome TAT! The ego setup is good. I heard the Volt is a good cigalike. Vaping is trial and error I think we all did it! But that's okay.
Baditude is right about the inhale. Take a mouth draw, act sexy with it! Let the vapor roll in your mouth, a little french inhale, pull it just far enough to slowly let the vapor exit your nose. Like how someone would really enjoy a fine cigar.

Sent from my bird in a moist little package :p

Smokeless Image is a reputable company and has good equipment. It's what I began vaping on. I had four of their 78mm Volts and a couple of the X2 batteries (ego size). However, after a months use I realized they weren't going to cut it for ME.

I skipped eGo's altogether and got an AltSmoke Silver Bullet & BB (both mechanical mods that take replaceable rechargeable batteries) and a couple of months after those got a Provari (regulated variable voltage mod). That's what I use now. 2 years smokefree this month.

Welcome and congratulations on your decision to start vaping, I've been at it now for four months and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

If I would give you one piece of advice it would be not to take too much advice. People on this forum are super helpful but all have their own personal preferences. The tobacconist stocks many types of cigarettes to take in to consideration all tastes and so does the vaping world.

When I first started vaping it was with consultation with my doctor as I have very bad sinus, the first thing I developed was a awful cough, he told me not to worry as this was only damaged hairs that line the throat falling off to be replaced by healthier ones. The cough went in about a week.

I'm not a big fan of throat hit (TH) I prefer big and sweet flavours but that is just my personal preference.

One thing I should tell you is that this forum is like a community and the advise, specially when making larger purchases, is invaluable.

My vaping is now a hobby, I make my own juice and have a couple of rebuildable atomisers, it's much more than the habit smoking was.

Welcome and enjoy the ash free, smell free, almost tax free world of vaping, you won't regret it for a moment.
