Hi all. I just signed up with this site after purchasing my first box mod. I started on a cheapie FAZE vape pen starter kit (to quit smoking). From there I upgraded to a Innokin iTaste vv/vw 4.0 with smok Micro Core ADC II Dual Coil Clearomizer as well as an Aspire nautilus Mini. Now I finally just bought a Smoktech M80 Plus with an El Cabron rda. I owe all my vape knowledge (or lack there of) to this site and YouTube. I'm JUST starting to learn to build, so any tips would be great. My first and current build is a 24 gauge Kanthal, 5 wrap dual coil reading .33 ohms on the Mod (still waiting for my Ohm reader in the mail). While having the device on Mech mode I believe that puts me at around 53 watts (with full battery anyway). Now this is my first Mod, but my god I LOVE the clouds!!!!!

Been loving this site and just thought I'd stop lurking and maybe start contributing. When I have something to contribute, that is.

I agree completely, and the Ohm reader should be here shortly. Thank you for looking out :thumb:

I was worried about safety when I first started reading about more powerful vapes. That's why I decided to get a Regulated Mod instead of a Mech. Though there are still safety concerns, I feel better (personally) using a device that is regulated. Originally I almost bought a mech, but I'm very happy I didn't. Because now I can still use my Aspire Nautilus Mini to get my nic fix on smoke breaks at work, but can also chase clouds whenever I feel like it.

I also have a Lemo Drop RTA on the way. Can't wait for that to get here!

Thanks for the warm welcome WonderDude! I'm a parent too, so I share your feelings on safety. These aren't the first Lipo batteries I've dealt with. I was big into RC, built my own crawler and used lipo's to power that so I am familiar with the TYPE of battery, and battery safety.

Welcome to ECF, FedEx...

If you plan on going below .25Ω... I hope you've bought a good quality, accurate ohm meter/build box.

The next step might be developing some skills with a coil modeling calculator... like Steam Engine for example.

@State O' Flux - Lavender and Vanilla are supposed to be "calming" scents. I'm not sure I'd like the "taste" of lavender, but I sure as heck love the taste and smell of vanilla ;)

You mean to tell me you've never had lavender flavored ice cream?! Lavender actually tastes really good.

Lavender infused honey is also mighty tasty. ;)

@caferacer - Meant in a vape. I'd whipped up a tobacco juice some time ago, and it was so "flowery" I couldn't take it. One of the few I've completely dumped (<10mL, so I didn't think it was too much of a waste....) And no, I've not tried lavender ice cream, although it sounds wonderful.... I don't have lavender in my flavor arsenal (with over 200 different flavorings in stock at the moment, I'm *NOT* buying any more for a LONG time  ) Some day....

Just don't eat a lavender pastry that has more than just the flavor in it lol. My girlfriend and I had a nice lavender pastry ruined by the little lavender buds. Tasted great otherwise, though!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!

Hey thanks for the Steam Engine link, it looks to be a nice tool to have. I haven't read much about it yet, but will do so very soon! And my Ohm meter should be here any day now

Like others said, you seem to be on the right track. Welcome to ECF!

Whenever you feel the itch for another RDA and or RTA, check out the Mutation Xv4 and the Cthulhu RTA. Both are very nice and affordable atomizers.

And Thank YOU for the suggestions Cacique! I will most definitely look into those!

On another note, I have a question that I am hoping someone might be able to help me with. I have an El Cabron RDA, which I have really been enjoying! But there is one issue I am having with it. I am having a HECK of a time removing and then putting back on the top cap. The portion that fits over the base of the RDA. I've watched a few youtube videos about the RDA and nobody else seems to have trouble putting it on and taking it off. In the videos I've watched people just pull it right off and slip it right on no issues what so ever. Mine is absurdly hard to remove and put on. I was taking it apart to clean my coils and replace the wick and I almost gave up. I ended up putting it on an old vape pen so I could have some leverage to pull the top cap off, and I pulled the 510 connector right off the battery of that vape pen with the top cap still attached to the base of the RDA!!!... MAN that was really aggravating. After fidgeting for another 15 minutes I finally got it off. I replaced the cotton and to get the top cap back on I had to turn the RDA upside down and press the top cap against the ground while I used my body weight on the connector side. It FINALLY seated, but that was so hard I do not even want to attempt taking it apart again, though I know I'm going to have to. I used some juice to lube the O rings hoping that would help, which I think it did with putting it back together. But how the heck am I supposed to take this thing apart without breaking stuff???... I hope all that makes sense... ANY and ALL help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Remove the o-rings. Install the cap to make sure it's just over-thick o-rings causing the tight fit.
If you have dial or digital calipers or a metric machinists scale (a bit harder to be accurate), you can measure, then order thinner cross section o-rings from a variety of sources.

If you don't have measuring tools, take them to a...
  • Vape B&M
  • Auto parts
  • Hobby shop
  • Hardware store
And see if you can match something up with a thinner cross-section. If the are a tight fit on the RDA... then OD isn't that big a deal, and if the option ends up being something a mm or two larger... you're still good to go. It's the cross section that is the more critical to cap fit.

State O' Flux I've got to say man, thank you very much for the suggestions! I will get this done on my next free day. I can't believe I didn't think of that, thinner O-ring, makes perfect sense!.. Thanks again!

I bought a Subtank Mini today because the idea of having a Clearomizer/RTA 'hybrid' is appealing to me. I picked it up when I was headed back to work from my lunch break so I still haven't gotten to use it yet. Hope it is worth the $

-After using the Subtank Mini for a day here's my thoughts. I really like the tank, haven't used the RBA section yet. I did not like the stock .5 ohm OCC very much. The stock 1.2 ohm OCC produces a much more enjoyable vape for me. BUT I'm not a fan of the horizontal coil for the OCC heads period.

-A mouth to lung hit on this Subtank Mini with stock OCC head is laughable at best. So last night I took apart the .5 ohm OCC head because I like it least, and I rebuild the coil to a 2.08 ohm (higher than I wanted. Was shooting for a 1.8) VERTICAL micro coil (28g-12 wrap on 2mm drill bit) basically mimicking the Nautilus heads. This thing will now mouth to lung better than my Nautilus Mini (which is what I was trying to accomplish) on the smallest air hole @ 25 watts. The direct lung inhale with AFC wide open is pretty darn good too but I like to drop it to 20 watts for direct lung hits. Flavor is really muted with mouth to lung though so I need to fix that. Direct lung has great flavor.

-What I'd change, or will change when I try something new tonight, is using a thicker gauge wire (26g) and a larger diameter drill bit (2.5-3mm) with a few less wraps and maybe very small space between wraps this time. The direct lung hit is slightly restrictive with the current build only having air flow through the 2mm coil hole. So I am hoping to achieve the same great mouth to lung hit, with a less restrictive direct lung hit. We'll see how it goes. I'll report back after I get a decent amount of time to vape it.
