Newb has gurgling and quick drying with refilled 510 cart?

Hey all!

I'm into month 2 of vaping!

I recently refilled some carts (eg, new polyfill) and have had some uneven results.

I am getting both a gurgling sound and the end of the cart (feeding the atty bridge) seems to be drying up on me pretty quickly...
I pulled the poly out a bit, and just below the surface, it seems very wet still (hence the gurgling). This also explains why I can't get more that a drop or two before the juice pools up.

What gives?

I'm using a Roughstack v2, with a 2.5 510 atty and cart setup (though I just placed an order for cartos and drip tips to try something else out)

I have roughly the same experience you do, and have been doing a lot of experimenting. I have been trying different cart mods, attys, juice, etc. I have found a couple of things that can make the difference.

First, any combination of the above variables will perform differently. Ie a thicker juice, with fluval will wick more slowly than say a thinner juice with blue foam. Also, any juice/cart combo will always wick faster when it is hot. So it also depends on how long and how often your firing it in a given session.

Second, the biggest difference maker and the thing it took me the longest to learn is that it makes a difference how you hold your pv when firing. More juice is going to drip into the atty if your holding vertically (ie ".... mode") vs horizontally (ie "cig mode.") So if your in .... mode, at the first sign of gurgling hold it up, and take a few hits to burn some out of the atty.

Sometimes, juice/condensation can get into the mouthpiece portion of the cart. There are 2 chambers in the cart, juice & air. The end that goes in your mouth has an empty pocket and you'll see bypass holes on the sides where air comes through. Gurgling can come from that too, just blow from the mouthpiece.

Blue foam is 'old technology' according to many here, but I still use it. Many have switched to tanks & cartos to hold more juice. BF works best with thicker juice, polyfill is fine for thin. epresley is right, gravity helps feed the juice.

I used a 510 atomiser with a cartridge on it for about a month and didn't get on with it too well. You have to keep filling the filler up and it gets dry so fast. If you're filling the filler you might as well drip onto the atty. It's not greatly portable.

Because I use vg I can't use any tank system out there (at least every one I've tried so far can't wick vg) and cartomisers wound up being my saving grace. Fairly easy, fairly cheap to run and the flavour isn't terribly muted.

I would try out some 510 cartomisers in your shoes, just knowing how annoying refilling a cartridge was, and maybe just buy a drip tip for your atomiser and drip when you're at home or have the time to do it. Nothing so far to me, on an affordable setup has been as flavourful and long lasting as dripping on an atomiser. I just can't take it to work with me like that lol

Thanks for the tips everyone!

I'm excited to get my cartos and drip tips (coming from MadVapes as we speak) and for the time being, its pretty clear to me that i was overfilling it, both direct to bridge and into the cart fill

With a cart / atty setup, you can't hit a PV like 10-15x in a row without drying it out temporarily. You have to give it a chance to wick down in between uses. For repeated draws, seems to me like a carto or direct dripping is better.
Gosh there's a lot to learn, but it's fun and you get the idea pretty quickly!

btw: Vaperite VR4 is amazing :) just got it yesterday!

Hey thanks!

As I mentioned, the dual coil cartos and drip tips are on their way! Another question: when using a drip tip... do you just put it onto the atomizer or are there extensions? I saw a YT vid w/ a "goose neck" but havent found anything like this on MadVapes... should I look to other sites or is a Atty -> drip tip connection ok on its own?

I recommend blue foam for restuffing carts - even consistency, holds its shape, easy to rinse. Strictlyejuice.com has precut blue foam for 510 carts very cheap (under $1 for 10)

Gurgling - try rinsing drying and fluffing the stuffing. Blow out your atty too. And buy blue foam stuffing.

And I recommend Boge 510 standard resistance cartomizers on 510 (slim batteries can only use standard resistance, not LR. Fatter batteries and mods can use LR). Try cartomizers for your favorite thinner juices.
