I just got a new Joye 510, and have been making sure to not overfill. In fact, according to most sources, I've been underfilling my cartridges; however, after awhile my atty starts to gurgle like its flooded. My first atty did this until it started to taste sour and weird, so I blew it out. A TON of e-juice came out, some of it seemed to be a little burnt. I rinsed it out with hot water last night, and I'm giving it a nice long dry. I started using a new atomizer today. I added one extra drop to it today, and its starting to gurgle.

I'm going to blow it out before things get bad again, but what causes this, and how can I keep it from happening?

In my experience this is the sign of a bad atty ... I have had this happen exactly as you have described, with nothing more than 1 drop :S.

Maybe there is a defect in the bridge??? never really got to the bottom of what was causing it, just know that I couldn't make it stop or work properly .... it sucks!

Gurgling is usually flooded - just blow it out into a tissue and make sure the threaded end connections are dry on both parts. And hopefully you bought manual 510 batteries so liquid can't get inside the battery and kill it.

Crackling, hissing, popping, sizzling are excellent sounds - it means the atomizer is not flooded but has enough juice and is doing a great job of vaporizing liquid. As atomizers get older these sounds will fade and the atomizer will degrade.

One way to tell the difference is a flooded atomizer usually won't get warm enough or make much vapor and if you blow it out a lot of juice comes out.

And try some Boge cartomizers (3 ohm on slim 510, and on 450mah+ fat/mod models the 3 ohm or the hotter 2ohm can be used). Most prefer cartomizers for everyday vaping of their favorite thinner juices.

I just recently switched to a tank system and was having the same problem. I haven't tried a new atty yet, but I did find that if I put the tank all the way in and then bring it back out about 1 mm it almost completely fixes the gurgling problem. The trade off is that the juice sometimes has trouble getting into the atty so from time to time I'll have to give the atty a few hard flicks with it the whole rig verticle (tank at the top). A few bubbles will rise to the top of the liquid in the tank, letting me know that the juice has made it into the atty again. While not a perfect solution, it is way better than getting a mouth full of juice and having the liquid all over my fingers and battery. If I hadn't gone with the manual battery I certainly would have fried an automatic before I discovered this fix. I wasted an entire 10 ml bottle and was about to give up on my new 510 tank system and go back to my old 808D setup using the v2 cartridges. I'm glad I got it to work because the flavor is much stronger and purer with the tank system, plus it's great to be able to see exactly how much liquid is left with a quick glance. Best of all I no longer have to deal with v2's terrible shipping times or the quickly degrading flavor when reusing cartridges or even when using blanks. Hope this helps!
