I have tried searching the forums to see if my question was already answered but could not find anything. Forgive me if I overlooked a post that would help me and please kindly link me to any info that will save yourself some typing time.
I have been lurking on this forum for about a year now. I found out about e-cigarettes through one of the kiosks for "SmokingAnywhere" at a local mall. I like to think I am a fairly savvy shopper, so instead of biting their bait and making an impulse buy, I did my research and found this site. I looked and looked and looked at all of the various topics and threads about what all the different models and specs were for the hardware offered by so many different manufacturers, but not only was I too poor at the time to afford the initial investment, I was too confused to make an informed decision. I was also a bit timid about asking the blatantly impossible question, "What should I start with?"
Fast forward to today. My employer recently began a full out anti-smoking campaign. No smoking at the workplace AT ALL and if you do not sign a legal affidavit swearing that you are smoke free (lying on such will cause you to lose your job - in this economy?? Come on!) you will be charged $25 per paycheck to offset the rising costs to our HMO for our employees who continue to risk their health by smoking. I have just gotten into a position financially where I could afford to smoke without denying myself the basic pleasures of life and was hoping I could enjoy it for a couple years more before biting the bullet and quitting. Man, was I mistaken!
So, I tried it the honest way. I didn't want to quit and so I knew it would be nearly impossible to do so the normal way. I also didn't want to spend an extra $25 per paycheck for a very enjoyable habit. I went to my doctor and got a prescription for Chantix and the Nicotrol inhaler. Using these, I was able to cut my smoking down from a pack a day to 5-8 cigarettes per day. But the side effects from the Chantix, dear me. I can't stand it. I get depressed and aggressive and ANGRY. I went off on my own mother because I went for a bowl of cereal and there was no milk. I hope I don't have to say it, but I will anyways, THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF PERSON I AM!!!
I am usually so laid back and roll with the punches. I couldn't believe that I was acting this way. I didn't even realize it when I was aggressing. My sister finally sucked it up and told me what was going on and that was when I realized that the Chantix wasn't for me unless I was willing to "pill myself up" to avoid the side effects. I don't like to be more medically altered unless absolutely necessary. I had a friend at work who told me that his daughter had ordered an e-cigarette but didn't like it and since her mom didn't like it either, she was willing to sell it at a decent price.
So, today, I bought a SmokeAssist e-cig for $50. It came with 6 0mg non-nicotine carts and the usb charger. I would have come back here and done more research and possibly waited for something to come through the mail, but I felt as though I was hanging off a cliff by my fingernails and had only the one hope. I only have a week off on term leave thanks to my doctor's note and my frugality as far as taking off time from work goes. It was a slightly used unit (she said she paid $100 and had only used 2 carts herself and her mom had used 1 and a half carts when she tried it) and I may have been screwed on the price, but right now, I don't care. I have my tax return coming in a couple of weeks and can upgrade then. My mom tried mine and liked it and would like to use it at 0mg when I can upgrade myself to a better model.
That's the back story. Sorry for the length. On to the questions!
1. I want to order carts for my new toy, what do I order? I don't know what brand or anything to look for, what will work with this model? I'd like a choice in flavors as well as strengths of nicotine if possible.
2. Are the SmokeAssist e-cigs as bad as the SmokingEverywhere e-cigs? If so, is it possible to order 3rd party batteries/vaporizer parts to fix it when/if it breaks? If so, from whom?
3. Is it possible to refill the carts on this brand? If so, I will watch all the videos and read all the tutorials for the details, but what specs for which cart should I use?
Looking at the SmokeAssist website, there doesn't seem to be an option to order carts. It appears to be that you can only order the e-cig for free by subscribing to an automatic refill setup where they charge you $60/month for 40 carts - which sounds like a major ripoff compared to many other suppliers. If you don't purchase your e-cig through them, you won't get refills. At least I missed out on the scam part of the deal?
I feel I was forced to this decision, but within a month or so I will be able to make a better informed decision. I just wanna use this to get by with for now and pass it on to my mom when I have a better model with (possibly?) more options for refills. Yes it was a rash decision, but I have not been exactly "level" mentally for a couple weeks now. When I heard that this girl had an e-cig I could buy for cheap, I jumped at it. Can you honestly blame me?
If I can do DIY with this model, it would be worth the time. If I can buy prefilled carts at a decent price, that will work for the immediate time being until I can figure out the rest.
I appreciate the help of anyone and everyone who can help me in the slightest with these questions. I just wanna feel ok and not mad or sad. I don't wanna pay extra money and honestly, if I can be happy with an e-cig, I think that is the best route for me. Thanks so much guys for your time and energy. I look forward to your replies.
