Hi There,

I am new to this forum and wasn't sure if this was the best place to ask for advice but here goes. I gave up smoking around a year ago moving to E-Cigs, at first I just bought one of those BLU starter kits which obviously wasn't great but it did the job in terms of stopping me smoking.

I enjoyed vaping so bought myself a Kangertech Topbox Mini Platinum Edition however the two main problems that I have found are that it constantly leaks and is really quite heavy. This obviously means I can't take the device out of the house as it leaks in my pocket and weighs my trousers/shorts down quite a bit especially on a night out where you already have enough stuff in your pockets.

Another problem I have found since I started vaping is that I often feel wheezy and out of breath. I used to be able to run for 20+ minutes on a treadmill but can now rarely get above 10 minutes due to the struggle to breathe. I also wake up feeling quite wheezy in the morning and have to use a inhaler more than ever.

I have experimented with different PG/VG ratios/favours and have settled for the Vampire Vape which is a 60pg/40vg ratio - I found that going for higher VG liquids made my lungs extremely heavy. I also avoid the menthol juices as they seem to make my wheezing worse.

I currently vape at around 15-20 watts and not knowing too much about coils bought a pack of Kangertech Ni200 SSOCC Coils which I assume are ok?

I guess the advice I am looking for is can anyone recommend me a different mod kit which isn't so heavy and unlikely to leak as much and whether I am doing anything wrong with the types of juices/coils or anything else that I go for?

Thanks in advance :)

Hello and welcome! Ni200 coils can only be used in temperature control mode and those are sub ohm coils so would need more power to vape. Sounds like you'd do better with 1.5 mouth to lung coils (used in wattage/power mode) if your feeling a heaviness in your lungs.

Sorry to hear about Breathing problems. IMO you should talk to your doctor about that. For me I smoked my last cigarette around the first of the year. I breath much better now. Most people I have talked to say they do too. That is why I feel you should talk to your doctor. That Ni200 as I understand it should only be used with Temp Control. If you are going to use Watts as I do you should stick with Kanthal wire.

I got a iJoy Reaper tank back in December and I love it. Reapers are getting hard to find but I have seen them on closeout for around $10 or a little less. I have 5 of them now and never have had a leak with the iJoy Reaper coils. I use the RBA most of the time now but that is me, I am a DIY type. Another great tank I have is a Gille it is very under rated. I love the way it hits and it comes with 3 coils. Thos coils last forever as you can change the cotton in them.

Check around there are a lot of great tanks from last year that have had big price drops on. I pick up 2 of iJoy’s Limitless RDTA’s and love them found them for under $15. Everyone you talk to will have a different one that is their favorite, there are just so many to choose from. An me I want to try them all. lol

If you think it is the tank adding weight, you could try a smaller one like a Nautilus 2. It only holds 2mil, so if that's not enough, you would need an extra bottle of juice. Kind of defeats the purpose.

I you think it's the mod adding weight, you can't get much lighter than yours for a separate battery mod. An istick 30-40 just for out-and-about might be a bit lighter.

I have COPD and high VG or lung hits just won't do. The toptank/subtank is too harsh for me. I have to keep mine at no more than 20%VG and unflavored or very diluted flavor.

You can probably get the Subtank Mini from Ebay for $13, that just never leaked on me. It's riding in my backpack when mountain biking, in my pocket while hiking, never had a problem. My top fill tanks leak quite a bit (TFV4).

I have a bunch of the Subtanks and about 10 replacement glass tubes. I like them, plus you can use the RBA section.

As far as breathing, yeah, see a doctor. But I had that problem in the winter, changed to 50/50 (or so) and went down in wattage to 10-15. The problem went away for me. Obviously I ended up vaping much less e-juice that way.

I've always had asthma, so I have to use an inhaler if I'm doing an all out attack on the mountain bike. Normal relaxing trips, it's not an issue. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys.

It's not so much the tank that adds the weight or size or it but the unit itself which holds the battery.

Could it be that I went for the Platinum one? Maybe the metal adds to the weight and I should have gone for a smaller plastic one?
The non-platinum kbox 75w (black) that came in my topbox kit is metal too and i think its rather heavy

Here's something I like for out-and-about.

Tesla Stealth 100w Box Mod

I have been eyeballing that. Seems like it would be great with my MTL tank. I did see a few reviews complaining about poor build quality. Have you had any issues with that?

Oh, shoot, that's the wrong one. I have been eyeballing this:

Tesla Stealth 70W TC Box Mod

I even have a black one in the 'shopping cart' of my MVS account, lol. It looks like it would be perfect for my Nautilus X even with the 4 ml extender I have on there. In fact I think the extender would make it just right.

I have the stealth mini 100w and the stealth mini 40w.

I like both but the 100w works best. It's not variable wattage, just grab and go.
The 40w has more bells and whistles and is a bit smaller but for some reason I can't explain, I just like the simplicity of the 100w.

I really like the look of it. I would be all for it but I already have an AIO stealth vape (Aurora Vaporesso) and one to carry around (Kangertech EVOD Pro) that work in a similar way. I'm eyeballing the 75W version because it would fit another niche. A carry around vape that I could slap any of my tanks/coils on.

I wouldn't normally recommend a non variable mod since it restricts your ability to customize the vape to your particular liking and to the juice you are using in it. The only problem with those stealth mods is that they won't fit larger tanks than 22mm which does limit what you can use with that mod.

Best Box Mods & Vape Mods Of 2017: VW, Sub-Ohm & Temp Control

I don't have so much experience with mods having only purchased a few. My IPV-5 is pretty heavy, thankfully I have a purse. :)

That said, I'd be surprised (but not blown away) if it were only your tank that's leaking, instead of your mod. I have a Nautilus 2 and that will leak if overfilled or the airholes aren't closed in transit. You might try that with your current tank, I mean, connector issues seem more likely in a mod than leaking, though I'm FAR from an expert.... So you may want something different, as it's not fun if you forget.... Overall, it's a great tank, but... Since leaking is an issue, you may want to go with some of the other recommendations.

I'd suggest the Eleaf Aster a 75 watt mod a slight bit larger than a tube mod. It has full TC including SS. It is the lightest and smallest VW mod I have. My only complaint is that it tips over easily due to its small base size. You can get it from China for $20 or the US for $30.

I've fallen in love with my Eleaf Aster 75W. It's become my main unit. It's small, and lightweight, which means it's good for pocketing. I do have one mod that's smaller (cloupor mini+ 50w), but it's not as reliable as the Aster.

As far as the OP's question, tank leakages are one of the bigger concerns for vapers. "squonkers" are one way they deal with leakage, but that needs a larger and heavier styled setup. Drippers are another option, but that requires that you rebuild your own coils and you have to constantly drip on your coil before you take a vape. Tanks lately have become pretty reliable and leakproof. The subtank series was the first prebuilt coils that could keep up with juice demand and not leak. I've had no problems with my TFV4 coils, and I've heard nothing but good news from the TFV8 beast series.

I have the Arctic V8 and it does leak very rarely when I get the thing really hot. Not a huge leak, and it does only happen when it's really hot, and it's the V8. There are several editions of the Arctic so IDK if that applies across the board. I'm using TC coils in it now so it's not an issue. As I understand it the newer tanks aren't going to leak because that's part of TPD compliance.
