Well, I am moving along, perhaps a bit to quickly. On the weekend i got a smok Magneto, kayfun clone, and batteries with charger.

Then i started reading on safety. Yes i should have done this first, but I haven't charged the batteries, and everything still in it's wrapper/box. Been reading up on safety all week now, and still want to ask a few questions.

Not being sure on the batteries, I bought these 30A Efest IMR 18650 1600mAh 3.7V high drain Rechargeable LiMn battery-Flat top-Efest battery for E-cigs

I picked these thinking they are less powerful, thus safer. (yes silly, but it was my thinking at the time)
are they safe for use in the magneto ?. I didn't know what a "kick" was, now i do. Maybe i should have gotten a smaller size battery to fit a kick in it.
Also, i see mention of "Not" under draining the batteries. I can only take this to mean, don't use them for to long. How do you all know when it's time to charge them up with these mech mods ?. They have no indicator of power remaining.

I have been wrapping coils for a few weeks now with 30 and 32 kanthal for kanger coils. I can pretty much hit where i want in ohms. I can aim for 1.8, and get 1.75 - 1.95. What is a safe ohm for the kayfun with the gear i have now. I don't want to try sub-ohm at all yet, but I want the kayfun to work well. I have protank II, protank II mini, evod's, can they be used on it as well.

I wanted it seeing video reviews, reading reviews and all, now I'm a tad afraid of it.

Thanks for any info on this.

You'll be fine. This batteries can handle pretty much any single coil build you would use in the Kayfun and most double coil builds (though the Kayfun is designed for single coil operation).

What you should do so you know Your safe is learn a little bit about electronics. A very basic understanding of volts, resistance and current (amps) goes a very long way in this hobby. Having a tool for testing these is vital. A digital multimeter is the tool. You can buy a pretty highly rated dmm at Walmart for about 20 bucks. one of the best things abojt this DMM is it is known to be pretty accurate. It is an auto range DMM and auto zeros resistance of itself.

I will link that plus a couple of posts I think might help you learn what you should know. 30 minutes of study can give you a good foundation.

I'll be back!

Those are good batteries. The key is the high 30A rating. At the ohms you stated, they will be extremely safe.

As far as discharging the batteries, it's really about "feel" and knowing when they are getting low. Or using a voltmeter to check them occasionally. I usually replace mine with freshly charged batteries well before they get too low, generally 3.5 or 3.6 to err on the side of safety. If you go to low on voltage you can damage your batteries, and I believe, potentially have a run-away.

Thank you for the info, and the links. I will continue on learning how to do it right. After clicking your link to Walmart for Multimeter, and seeing some options of purchase. I think you'll have a laugh as i did when you do the same search only at Walmart Canada - Search Results for "multimeter" at Walmart.ca

Haha, 1 result. I'm an hour away from the U.S, and sometimes feel I'm living in the Flintstones.

I haven't seen the inline volt meter, however i haven't been looking. I will get one when i see it local. I picked up a multimeter on the way home from work, so I think I'm all good to go.

The kayfun clone came with a prebuilt coil and wick. Guess i'll take a reading off it and see how it performs.

I'm glad i asked about the batteries, hearing that they are decent quality made me feel much better.

I would toss that stock coil and wick if I were you. No way of knowing how much leftover machine oil got on/in the coil/wick.

excellent advice. I did not use it. I have it working. Made a coil and it ended up 1.6 ohms, figure this is fine for first time try. I used cotton, and i guess to much.
I have an awesome taste of machine oil, burnt cotton, and a full tank of my fav juice all over the kitchen counter. Thought i would open it up, and add more juice to coil area.

3 days ago, i had left all of the kayfun parts soaking in warm soap water. All except the coil build part. Thought I would save that part from getting wet as it had a coil with silica and all. Mistake part 1.

Mistake part 2. I have made coils before, and i know how much cotton is to much, but i went and put to much anyhow. Even after wetting it with juice, i had a hard time "seeing" the coil. I should have known it's way to much.

Now that's it all put together, it looks good. This kayfun looks like it was to be on the magneto. There is a gap between tank and mod, but it just worked. No adjusting any pins, i am happy with this part.
With 18650, it still seems solid to me. I am not seeing the play/movement i read and heard in reviews.

Well, back to the kitchen, to try and wash this dirty taste out. Note to all, don't practice on your Favorite juice.

Thanks all for help and recommendations.

LOL, That multimeter is Awesome!!! There are many decent DMM's for your needs. I wouldn't worry about it. If your just using it for vaping than you will be okay with almost anything. Whatever you bought should be fine!

Your batteries are awesome!!! Good Luck and don't get frustrated. Just ask and people will come out of the woodwork to help you out.
