I started about a month ago, and the failure rate is astronomical, and some how seems to be getting worse... I've been using single coils this whole time and the ohms seem way too high. So today I did dual coil since I heared that it halfs the ohms. The problem is its still ridiculously high. Today the ohm reader says 270... ANY help would be appreciated... (I use 26ga kanthal and did a 4/3 wrap on 1/8 bit)

270 ohms? you'd have to be building something with incredibly thin wire and a lot more wraps. here, this should help you.
Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

I'd guess your ohm-meter is reading wrong..not sure why. That coil should be between .5 and .6 with 2mm legs. If possible, test on another meter, might be defective. The only other possibility I can think of is that whatever you're building on has a short, albeit a VERY high resistance one. Perhaps check your atomizer thoroughly. What are you building on?

unless 4/3 wrap is really 1 1/3 wraps...in which case I guess I could see it being .27 ohm in which case it's reading right...just the wrong decimal.

I'm not trying to sub ohm. And I threw away the dual coil and remade a single coil at either 7 or ten wraps of 26ga and when I screwed down my post on the igo-W it said like 700-900. However I kessed with it and unscrewed my post a bit and now reads 1.05 but now that post isn't really secured from movement. How do I check my atty for a short ?

Please get a good DMM, not those cheap things if you want to wrap low Ohm coils!! Don't trust your face to a $20 meter! If it was shorted it would have very low Ohms, not high Ohms. Your coil is basically a calibrated short. Try using 28 gauge. What Ohms are you trying to wrap your coil at? I build my coils to be around 1.8 Ohms so I use 30 gauge with 9 wraps with a 2mm ID(inside diameter).:vapor:

Not to sounds stupid but what is a DMM

I dont think you understand what your meter is telling you. Anything below 1 ohm it drops the decimal and gives you 3 digets. That 270 you got is 0.27 ohms. I hope you are using atleast a 30 amp battery.
You need to brush up on ohms law and battery safety and fully understand all the equipment you have and need before you proceed.

Depending usually 1-1.8

1 - 1.8 isn't too critical, but the lower you go the more you need a good quality meter to be safe. If you are using a cheap meter then get a precision resistor of around an Ohm or so that you can check your meter with before you use it each time. Most people in electronics recommend 2 DMM's(Digital Multi-Meters). I have expensive meters and equipment because I work on electronics as a hobby, but you can get some very decent meters for around 40 - $50. But anyone that is sub-ohming below 1 Ohm I would recommend getting a good used Fluke on ebay or somewhere if you can't afford a new one. You may be able to find a good meter pretty cheap at a pawn shop also.:vapor:

Thank you, I went ahead and bought one after work yesterday at Wal-Mart. I love it to, I looked up how to use it and found out I could even check my battery charge level ! That's gonna be real helpful.

I always use a DMM to check my coils. I also always cross the tips first, my meter is usually off by 0.03 so I just subtract that from whatever it reads. Also, I only use mechanical mods (Reos) so I do an 'extended' ohms check, like hold the leads onto the RBA posts for at least five seconds. If your reading fluctuates wildly, throw that coil away and start over. Twenty cents worth of Kanthal is a lot easier to part with than $150 worth of Mod. Exercise safety first and always, and when in doubt don't do it.

Hey brother, are you using a multimeter by chance? Or is it a screw-on ohm meter?

I only ask because the multimeter can be set to the wrong ohm reading (milli-ohms sounds like) setting, it should be on the lowest ohm setting you have (usually a double digit like 70ohms - 0ohms). Also it could be possible that yours simply doesn't show the decimal point (ie. 700 could be 0.7). If you are using a multimeter remember to cross your leads, find your ground charge (usually .01-.05 or something small), and once you get your reading subtract that .1-.5 from your reading.

Hope this helps brother, hopefully it's just a post/atty problem that can be fixed, usually something needs to be tightened and your good.

**EDIT: Oops I read the thread and found others that basically suggested what I did already, disregard! I'm glad you figured it out friend, I nearly threw my multimeter through my window when I first started lol. They're the most accurate though, it can be handy to have the screw-on kind just to get an idea where you are in general, most are more accurate than a majority of people need anyway. Have a good one, and good luck! You'll be vaping a perfect build in no time I bet!**
