My post just upped and went, grr. Is there any way to preview one's reply?
Update. Since the 31st. January I've cut back from 1½ PAD to max. 10 a day. Until I read another newbie post (priv8pilot)and the responses to it, I was feeling guilty and a bit of a failure (not really helped by OH, who thought I should be like all his colleagues who are totally smoke free after starting to vape), now I feel a lot happier :)

I used to buy a carton of cigs at a time and there are now 6 unopened packs staring at me. I've decided that when the last pack is finished, that's it, I won't buy any more. I hope that is a reasonable goal.

Same here... when the last pack was gone and I was all setup to go on vaping (just an eGo starter kit) it just worked - from day one. Situations may vary but I can attest to the fact that it can be done... but if it doesn't from the get-go don't worry about it (have an analog if you feel you need to) but keep vaping and I'm certain you'll find it more preferable in a short time. Glad you're here A2Fay - welcome!

Welcome to ECF. There are many that do not quit smoking completely. They vape to reduce what they smoke. It took me a couple weeks to get off the analogs completely, but that was my intention.

Good luck. Glad you decided to give it another chance. There is a world of information and support to be had here.

I hope 2nd time is the charm for me, last Sept. I was vaping at 2mg of Nic. Went to a convention out of town and decided I could risk buying just one pack... oh well, won't bore you with how long it took me to go from a few a day back up to 1/2pad or more. However, here it is in Feb. In the last week I've gone from 1/2pad to 0 analogs and vape at 5mg of nic. I probably dropped that nic to fast (started at 10mg) so I think I'll stay here awhile before I drop it further. In the past 2mg of nic was the level I couldn't maintain.

You can quit the smokes at your own pace. Try vaping and maybe occupying yourself getting something done first and then if you really really still want a cig, have one. Before you know it, you will have quit. Be nice to yourself. I know the feelings of inadequacy that can come with quitting smoking. Think about all the cigs you are not smoking and be happy.

I think that might be a factor, Kopfstimmen.. I enjoy smoking. Except when it's minus 10 and snowing on my terrace, even then I brave the elements  I haven't smoked indoors for about 5 years now which was a start, albeit a verrryy slow one.

I know the feeling! May I make a suggestion? You said that you plan to quit when the last pack is done. What helped me is to stop at the second to last pack... That way I could keep the extra in the glove box of my car "just in case". Six months later, that unopened pack is still there. It doesn't really tempt me, but I know that if I was absolutely DYING for a smoke, I could go to my car. It would probably taste like crap, but I could go to my car. :)

I smoked a pipe for 30 years. I thought it would be hard to stop, but when I got my first e-pipe in, I vaped the heck out of it for 3 days before I even thought to try the pipe again. When I tried the pipe, I hated]/b] it. I dumped the tobacco out and I still have a can and a half left just sitting there. I call them my trophies :)

well, I still have 1 and a half packs left but this is HARD, really hard. I've tried to change my routines so that I don't smoke when I normally do but there are a few analogs that seem unavoidable. ...... The first of the morning, the one at lunchtime and funny enough, the one after dinner. All the others are unnecessary but I enjoy them, shi**y, shi**, doodah, doodah.
Does anyone else smoke a cigarette when they have to write something/make a decision/get ready for something?
Am I setting the goal too high? I've been smoking for about 43 years and it's just the past few weeks that I have wanted to stop.
I think my choice of vaper is the right one although I keep dragging on it the wrong way but that's my learning curve.
