This is week ONE for me. So far I am really liking this Ego-C. have a couple of questions. Is it normal to cough/choke like I did 40yrs ago when I started smoking. guess I might be trying to learn the best way to vape. Sometimes when I just take a small short draw and inhale lightly thru my nose it is better and the flavor shows up much more......is this normal? And last do I need to steep my juices.....they seem to have pretty good flavor now? Do all juices from vendors need steeping or are some already done?
any replies appreciated.....thank you

Hi and Welcome!!!

The coughing like you did when you first started smoking is normal. The vaper is nothing like smoke and your not used to it, as time goes on that will stop. Many people will inhale through the nose and find it more enjoyable, I personally don't, but if that works best for you just keep on doing that.

As far as steeping, many vendors make juice to order so its fresh for the customer. For that reason I usually let them sit in a cool dark place for about a week before I vape. You dont necessarily have to do this, I just find the juice to be better after I let it sit. Also certain juices that I didnt care for I will come back and visit after a month and then find I enjoy them more. Some juices do get better with age, so if you find you dont like one, let it sit and come back to it, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

Hope this helps.

Joie, I've found that treating it a bit like a pipe works pretty well. I usually have a 3 second drag, let some of the vapor trickle out, and inhale, through the mouth, "softly". In my experience, with analogs or vaporizers, very long drags and hard inhales tend to make people cough or choke.

I wouldn't be surprised if nicotine content has something to do with this - I don't have the same flavor/mix/house at markedly different strengths handy, but maybe someoepne could chime in with their experience.

Congrats and I'm also a former 40+ yr smoker. Yes coughing is normal for the first while- try smaller inhales in the beginning. It's because you have no Cilia, the little hairs are that line your trachea. So instead of the vapor particles landing on the hairs they land directly on the tissue and your brain registers that as drowning. They will grow back.
How does Smoking Affect the Cilia?
If you find you need extra nicotine inhaling through the nose will help. Eventually it all works out but remember to stay hydrated and drink lottsa water. As someone else mentioned if the juice has a perfume taste/ smell steeping usually remedies that.

Good Luck.

You have already received some awesome advice, but I just wanted to add a couple of things. BTW, I'm also in Illinois . . . Hey Neighbor! :D

I'm a little over a month into this, so this is still fresh in my mind. About 2-3 weeks in, you will begin to notice a lot of coughing and wheezing, and that's ok. It's just your body's way of expelling all the bad stuff from within. You may experience a few other symptoms, too, as your body rids itself of toxins -- a runny nose, loose stool, pundgent-smelling sweat, and even worse-smelling . . . uh . . . "derriere air." :-x

On the plus side, though, you will notice foods that you liked before, tasting differently. They may be too spicy, too salty, etc. But, you will be able to pick up on the more subtle flavors you never noticed before. This is due to the fact that your sense of smell, and therefore taste, is coming back. You'll be able to sniff out a smoker from miles away (ok, maybe not that far, but you get the point).

About 4-5 weeks in, everything seems to balance out. You'll feel better, look better, and definitely smell better.

Congrats one your decision to quit smoking, and keep on vaping!

Welcome to ECF & Congratulations! There are more differences between vaping & smoking than there are similarities, I believe. For one thing, with vapor the nicotine is mostly delivered via the mouth, throat & nose, rather than deep in the lungs as with smoke. So I've found it important to pay attention to the *feel* of the vapor and only inhale it as it feels comfortable. I take a slow draw, a mouthful at a time, then slowly inhale through both nose & mouth to mix air with the vapor. If/when it begins to feel uncomfortable I simply exhale through my nose. (I have no sense of smell so this nose-exhale may not make any difference for me, but I might get a little more nic that way so I do it.)

Also you can use the firing button to control how long you "cook" the juice. I've found some juices taste better cooked a bit hotter or longer, others will "overcook" more easily. It's kinda like playing around in the kitchen... especially since I started mixing my own liquids. Anyway hope this helps, and Happy Easter to you!

Best of luck, & Happy Vaping! :vapor:

Coughing initially is normal I think. I did it for a few days but the lungs get used to the new situation quickly.
I have been vaping for 2 months and do cough occasionally. As far as steeping goea, some liquid (especially fresh mixed) will need 24 to 48 hours to gey good flavour. Do not leave the bottle open but do open it occasionally and squeeze the air out. It does work.
Welcome to vaping.

lol you are so right about the taste bud recovery, i have found i no longer like tuna, salami or bolognese (all of which i used to love) but worst of the worst i no longer like wine :O shocking i know, but the benefits of quitting analogues is definitely worth it :)

Congratulations on getting off the cigs, and no - it's never too late. Just ask my mother - mid-seventies & smoked since she was sixteen. Switching to vaping has been a challenge for her, but she's doing it so take heart! You're going to feel better and better everyday. Just remember to hydrate, hydrate hydrate and keep moving forward. :vapor:

I've found that changing out atomizers, like everything else in the world of vaping, is a matter of personal preference. I have several atomizers, so for my favorite flavors, I dedicate an atty to each them. For the rest of them, I do a quick clean on the atty (blow through it and carefully/gently wipe it out with a paper towel), switch tanks, make sure the atty's primed and vape away. Some of the stronger flavors can be pretty hard to get rid of, though, so if you like the menthol you might consider dedicating an atty to that flavor. You can also try dripping a little unflavored liquid for a couple of puffs between tanks - some people think it works wonders.

I usually have between two and four flavors going at a time - vapoholic, I know :vapor:
