Hi all,
I have started up vaping to quit the last few days,my husband started a few months ago,I spent that time picking the right atomizer for me and looking at General info on liquids,my hubby is on 12mg which suits him and on a popular e juice,I felt the 12mg was a bit too much for me and maybe trying to get the right amount is the problem,I have a feeling the pg/vg ratio is an issue too, hoping ye can help! I'm vaping with 3 days gradually more at a time,it was starting to feel easier especially when lowering the mg's but since yesterday evening I have a heavy pit kind of feeling in...top of my stomach/bottom of my lungs? Is this just part of switching/starting?? I worry I'm one of the few that are allergic to pg,I really hope I'm not,on analogues with 20 years and hate them, but addicted and really really want to gradually quit,on menthol e juice the brand is 50/50 mix, tried vanilla custard yesterday also think that was 70/30

I suspect the feeling is a reaction to too much vegetable glycerin in the base liquid. If that's the problem, it will probably go away in a few weeks. This is neither common nor extremely rare, but is fairly well known. Some are also sensitive to pg. Most people chose their blend purely as a matter of personal preference.

howdy! and welcome!

two things come to mind - first, it is all about finding what works for YOU - pg/vg ratio, nic level - personally, I started with 18mg nic, and quickly moved down to 6mg nic when I started using sub ohm coils - today, I use a 3mg nic and tend to prefer 70% vg (smoother vape for me) - second, you are on the right path - and you can do this - switching to vaping, you will experience some transitional 'withdrawal' effects from smoking (not just about the nic, but also the myriad other chemical compounds in the combustion of tobacco) - it gets a whole lot easier

keep the faith and vape on - ask questions - and breathe :)

This sounds like my asthmatic lung's reaction to too much VG when I tried 80vg juice. I now vape 50vg - 60vg and no longer have those issues.

Thanks for your reply,I must certainly try more juices, the menthol and the vanilla custard were two different brands, although bigger suppliers here, they surprisingly didn't divulge too much info on their ingredients,I don't get secret recipes! We're putting their stuff in our bodies!! Seriously considering learning to diy

Thanks, I suffered different withdrawals before from the Likes of patches as was told nic level was too high so I have great faith in the adjustable e liquid amounts, the 12 was definitely too high,I'm using sub ohm coil too,it was the throat hit at first, wasn't coughing but I didn't like it at all so I was thinking about vg would be better, will just have to make myself a guinea pig til I get it right lol! I found a post on here but in general vaping discussion and its none of those symptoms so that puts mind at ease, sense of taste and smell already improving, maybe my body is in shock after all this time!!

Thanks,I will indeed be looking into different ratios,I did have asthma as a child only but I'm glad you've mentioned it,I had pneumonia as a baby and my breathing as an adult, as a result of that isn't great so maybe just adapting,I'll be wary of it though, already happy I made the switch though, thanks everyone for your help

Keep in mind that if you're trying to quit and replace it with a certain amount of nicotine, then lowering the nicotine level will mean you have to increase the amount of juice you inhale. If the PG/VG is bothering you then vaping a greater amount is going to make it worse. 12mg is actually fairly mild and if you find it too strong, you're likely vaping at too high a wattage. Too many people are starting off with a subohm kit, when they should be starting with a higher resistance setup and perhaps moving to subohm later on. You might want to try a lower wattage/voltage on a regular tank instead of dropping the nicotine.

Thanks, this is my first so I plan on getting a few more for variety anyway,I had a feeling it might be a little more strength for me but I watched my husband for months and seen him a few days struggling as he had coil issues and said he wasn't getting enough of a hit etc,he went through a good few e cig types,I worried if I started and the same happened to me that I'd cave and quit and that'd be it,he actually tried mine and went off and bought one for himself, saying that he does have a higher nicotine tolerance to me and would have had a higher amount of analogues per day,I'd have half and most would be thrown away halfway too, my nicotine requirement is indeed low, but embarrassingly, as low as it is,if I don't get that amount, I and all around me would know about it,it a been the problem all these years,my nic withdrawals are shameful, very bad. I've since used 6mg liquid with a high vg,and it is suiting better, the sensation has eased off but it feels more like blood pressure increasing,I just didn't think I'd have a raise in blood pressure so early on. I guess the more physical changes the better,I'll have a better chance of succeeding this time. I'll be wary of nic level as I get more used to the switch,I'll know straight away if I'm not getting enough and I wouldn't rush with bringing it down. I suppose I wouldn't want to be too adventurous with different flavours til physically, all is calm?

Some flavors might be somewhat questionable, but I'm reasonably sure any reaction would be a long time showing. My advice continues to be to increase the pg and lower the vg. As I think I mentioned, it will take a couple of weeks for the effects of high vg to go away.

I am an asthmatic, for the first few days I felt fine, but then got the heavy sensation myself for about 4 days... took about a week for it to go away for me(all my juice is 70/80% VG). I am breathing easier and have not had an issue with my asthma at all otherwise. keep in mind we are inhaling something different from the smoke so there can be an adjustment period where your lungs are going "wtf are you doing to me now?!" lol. there's a few things it can be, from a change to what you're inhaling, to a reaction to the vg/pg mix.

You've received good advice here already but I gots to add my 2 cents.

If you are both thinking of DIY anyhow, why not grab a small bottle of both VG USP and PG USP. They can be got at any decent compounding pharmacy near you. I phone to find and order it and it's usually next day pick-up. Half a liter of each should be 20 bucks or less.

Try vaping plain VG for day one, no flavour or nic.
Monitor how you feel. Day 2 do the same with straight PG,
then you will know which base your body/lungs prefer.

Then you can purchase or mix liquids higher in ratio of the base that suits you best. You can also thin down any store bought liquid with plain PG or VG to get it to a ratio that suits you best.

Also, I found for myself certain flavours did not agree with my old diseased lungs. Menthol, cinnamon, black licorice and some root beer flavours gave me a heavy chest feeling if I vaped very much of any of them. A puff here or there was no biggie, try vaping a whole tank though and I'd get discomfort.

Keep experimenting, find what works best, stay away from what doesn't work for you and you'll be successful. All the best on your journeys. Cheers.
