Hi everyone,
couple weeks ago i bought a disposable metro e-cig just to try em out. Not a bad deal for $7 dollars because my friend had a charger and i've been recharging the battery. I just made a test batch of VG and distilled water. works like a charm, i just refill the cartomizers. yea it's all a little ghetto but I don't have too much money so... What i do really need though, is to figure out how to flavor my juice. I'm not talking about the ones you can buy online, I'm talking about actual herbal extractions or something along those lines. real DiY though not premade mix and match stuff. someday when i can purchase them sure but for now i'd love to just make my own from scratch,i feel like i'm halfway there. the VG is so nice compared to the PG. so smooth and lots of vapor, the TH from the VG really gets to me after a while so my mix is wonderful. flavorless, but wonderful. if anyone has ideas or has experience i'd appreciate some pointers.

I thought about using honey, or boiling some honey and water and then letting it separate and use the honeywater to cut the VG, but i heard it might screw up the atomizer (not that it matters i'm using the disposable cartridges anyways.)

oh yea, i like the action, not the chems. i may decide to make a batch with it every so often but for now i'm just trying to learn the flavoring process, seems even in the diy section it's mostly just mixing juices together and thats not the same to me, i want from scratch. but i will check again. i thought about the coffee and tea so if i could find thatguy might be something to work with.

haha i hear you but i have no way of ordering online right at the moment which is another reason i'm trying my own flavors. quick question, i've heard VG can be used to make tinctures, especially when boosted with some everclear. wouldn't that work for flavoring as well? oh yea and i found some threads using essential oils, but i thought you weren't supposed to ingest those? is vaping different?

Not sure if you have really looked at the DIY sub-forum....

There is quite a bit there. The above is just a small sample. (And I've been active in that sub for quite awhile and threads about just mixing juices together is rather rare.) Take another look.

thanks and yea after looking deeper i started seeing some different threads, maybe it was just the timeframe i was searching through

Could be, it's a fairly active sub and things get buried quickly. (Advanced search function set to the DIY sub only can be a huge help finding what you're interested in.)

You can do a VG tincture but it takes time. If you are under the gun for flavoring you're going to have to be creative. The best thing you could probably do right now is to make an extract with alcohol, but even that will take time to get it right. Traditionally you take VG or PG and stick whatever you want (spices like cinnamon sticks, or cloves, for example) and put them in a CLEAN and sterile jar and stick it in the window so the sunlight can heat it up for 2 weeks to a month. There are vids on youtube that will show you how to make a tincture. Check em out.

I can't watch youtube vids on my internet, otherwise i'd be all over it. i did just do a VG/coffee mix, strained i, threw it in my cart and it worked surprisingly well. thx for the advice everyone, soon as i get some more supplies (maybe better internet?) i'll start experimenting with different things.

hoosier i'll definately be surfing the DIY section from now on, look foward to posting some cool recipes in the future.

oh yeah forgive my keyboard, it's one of those floppy washable rubber ones and i don't have a hard surface to put it on :0. workin with bare minimum at the moment lol.

now if only i could get my wife to start vaping instead of smoking, that would be something!

I just realized I never did post my results.
I tried the coffee thing:

About 80-20 VG to water
Let some coffee grinds soak in that for about 20 minutes.
that setup was in a large bowl of hot water.
ran it through a coffee filter and put it in my carts.

I must say for an extremely quick job it's not bad at all. Could have more flavor but i'm surprised it worked at all that quickly. I will definitely play around more with this and try some new ingredients soon.

I really don't have any advice, other than I admire your enthusiasm on what sounds like such a tight budget. My girlfriend and I have been talking about DIY for a couple of weeks but we have put it off because of perceived cost. This thread has enlightened me that it doesn't have to be that hard or expensive if you just put some imagination into it. I guess with my last sentence, my only advice would be to be careful what you mix! Nevertheless, thank you.

Long term, it's big savings compared to buying from vendors, that is if you have the patience. DIY takes a lot of patience. When I started I probably made around 40 1ml samples before I liked anything. I'm still making 1ml samples and it's easier to match flavors now but it's a lot of trial and error.

Glad i could kindle your interest. i love DIY. The more you learn the more you can do on your own, it gives you more freedom. One day i'll be vaping an herbal clove mixture that i've grown myself. do you have to go to such lengths to enjoy it? of course not, but the last time i cooked spaghetti with our homegrown basil it made me so happy. there's just something amazing about do what you like from as close to ground up as possible.
