I am not looking for another hobby. I just want something to replace cigarettes/mini-cigars with a minimum amount of fiddling with it. I do realize it is going to be more complicated than just lighting up but after my first experience of throwing away $100, I am understandably gun-shy. I do know that the system I most recently tried was an improvement over the njoy but it wasn't variable voltage and I can see where I will need that feature. I'd willingly pay $100 for a kit if it has the easy draw, good vapor, good hit and minimal fiddling.

I am investigating all the suggestions now. I will post my decision tomorrow and my newbie review once I get my rig!

Thank you all for helping me.

IMHO, pipe smokers have the right vaping mentality. They are already into the equipment, the cleaning, the filling, keeping it lit etc. If you are a smoker who just wants to "buy a pack and smoke, don't bother me with any other effort", I suppose you will need to keep smoking, cause that isn't what vaping is about. Half the fun is the hobby that develops.

I disagree slightly with this statement. While vaping can turn into a hobby/science/what-have-you, I spent six weeks or better on a KR808 cigalike which was effectively of the 'light a smoke' variety, just screw on a carto, vape, charge batteries once or twice daily as needed. Sure I rotated a pair of batteries, but even with my rather heavy vaping habit it was never that big a deal, I'd always have a charged one available.

Even when I was filling my own cartos for the 808s, it was never super complex, just a matter of loading a milliliter of liquid in a syringe and squirting it into a dry carto, screwing it onto my battery, and vaping away. If you really wanted to avoid constant filling, just buy a bulk pack of pre-filled cartos, or bulk empties, and fill maybe 40-50 in one go, just like making your own ammunition. It becomes muscle memory if you spend an hour or two doing it one night, and those cartos should last the better part of two or more weeks.

...perhaps the biggest reason I had to find a tank system. "Sorry guys, can't make it out tonight ...filling my cartos for the week..." Hehe but. Yes, I totally agree ... a no frills system of 808s and cartos sure can work! Now that I have discovered the upgradability of ecigs And the culture amongst vapers I am spending those same nights in reading up and researching new stuff to get my hands on. In the end though I haven't thought of a cigarette in weeks!

Trust me, we ALL have had that 'newbie nightmare' of spending WAY too much money on WAY too little in the beginning ...heck, I did it TWICE - once back in 2009 and once again about a month ago! But, as you can tell, even with our 'experience', there are as many opinions as fish in the sea because the majority of your requirements (and, according to you, the most important ones) are subjective - "easy draw", "good vapor", "good hit", "minimal fiddling". None of these are 'measurable' in any meaningful way other than opinion. Seriously, you may as well be asking for us to tell you what your favorite color should be.

There are pluses and minuses to every device out there ...NONE of them are perfect. Based on your stated requirements throughout this thread, I would agree with Kristin ...iTaste MVP and a Kanger Protank/Protank 2 (due out at the end of this month) or the Davide Glassomizer. Plain and simple, the best bang for your buck. The MVP is a VV device with a very large fixed battery system (no separate batteries), just plug it in to charge, quasi-passthrough, and relatively small and portable. A side benefit to the MVP is that, because of it's large battery, you can charge other devices (like your phone or mp3 player) from it in a pinch. The Protank is very popular, holds a sizable amount of juice that should last you all/majority of the day, is made of metal/glass, is very easy to maintain - rinse out to clean, fill with juice, change coil heads about once a week - and is commonly known to have the 'easy draw' you say you want. Your consumables will be coil heads (you can get 5 for around $6 almost anywhere) and juice (depends on where you buy it).

Another option would be the iTaste VV 3.0 with a Protank Mini / EVOD or the Davide Glassomizer Mini (due out at the end of this month). This will give you a VV/VW device with a smaller form factor, also has a fixed battery solution (although not as large as the MVP, but still should last you all/majority of the day), plug it in to charge, quasi-passthrough, has the same consumables as the MVP, but it will hold only about half as much capacity in juice.

I own both (plus 2 Provaris) and they are both really good devices with lots of functionality for their price points.

The only other suggestion I could make is that, when you go to make your juice choice(s), start with 24mg nicotine to accommodate your history of smoking mini-cigars. The higher nicotine will - or should - give you the harsher 'hit' that you are expecting.

I think i see your problem. I'll try and explain what i think you are after in simple terms with no buzz words or gobbledegook.
1) Vaping does take some getting used to and has a different technique. If you try and do a hard drag on a cigarette you'll end up just flattening the filter and not burning the tobacco inside. You'll be basically burning the paper on the outside. If you try and do a too harder draw on an e-cigarette you'll end up with a mouthful of juice.
Try this:
press the button on your device for 2 secs before gently drawing on the device keeping the fire button depressed for the duration of your draw.
2) E-juice is made up of a mixture of ingredients, the base mixes will be PG and VG with nicotine and flavouring added. Now PG is very good for throat hit whereas the VG is excellent for vapour production. Sounds like you need a 65% VG/35%PG base mix for your needs. Some online retailers and most vape stores will make up customized mixes for your needs. You should see more vapour without taking away from the throat hit too much with this ratio of VG/PG
3) Airflow. To get a good draw on an e-cigarette do not over-tighten your chosen device to the battery. The device has small air holes near the screw thread and over-tightening just cuts off the flow. Some vapers even enlarge the air hole slightly to accommodate their airflow needs
As for cost effectiveness you cannot put a price on your health but nevertheless vaping is cheaper than smoking. I myself make my own juices and atomizer coils( costs about £1 ($1.5) per week for consumables) but that is not for you just yet. I would recommend finding a vendor near you that does custom mixes with lots of flavour combinations until you decide that vaping is for you. Buying pre-made juice costs about £3 ($5) 6ml but gets cheaper the greater the amount you buy. 10ml lasts about a week for me

I'm sorry.
GIF_2503.gif

So, you do NOT want a cigalike? How about this:http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

One Vision Spinner at 1300 mah (approx 13 hours of battery life)
One Ego Twist at 1000 mah (approx 10 hours of battery life)

With and EVOD tank and another of your choice.

This comes with a charger and you get to choose your colors.

All you would need after that is some juice. But, that is another thread.

+1 on Chell. To make things more confusing Kanger has a clearo called an Evod, very nice and fits good on Ego style batteries. Kanger also makes an Ego style battery named Evod. Follow Chell's link and look at the choices, nice kit.

Don't be sorry Ocelot, asking for clarification is a good thing. Those of us who know you, know you have experience and are very helpful.

A friend of mine gave me one of his itaste 3.0's and I love it. It's not too big, love the square shape for not rolling around, and some of the features like variable wattage, measures head resistance, button goes from green to yellow at half charge, mini-usb for quasi-passthrough, and also measures battery strength. I don't like the puff counter. Some things in the vaping world shouldn't be known.

They are $24 from FT if you have the patience. I was at my local b&m yesterday and they had them for $32.99 (ITaste VV v3.0) so I bought one for my wife. She loves it already. Not sure where there's a better deal from a US vendor.

I'll be getting a vamo or evic down the road but my 2 workhorses are an 1100mah smoktech winder and itaste 800mah 3.0. I love evods so I stick with them. Simple, cheap, and reliable. However, evods are best used on variable voltage. I tried one on a regular batt and it was weak. Yea, switching to 1.8ohm fixes that but vv/vw fixes everything on anything.

From a cost perspective my main gear costs: 1100mah winder ($20), itaste 3.0 ($33), 2 evods ($12), heads ($6). Pretty good bang for 70 bucks.

There are excellent recommendations in this thread. I just wanted to add my experience. Everyone's is different of course.

I agree go with 1.8 OHM and, probably a protank, it's a very easy draw.

The other half of the trouble is going to be getting the menthol hit you are used to with those little cigars. A PV (e-cig) is NEVER going to taste like a lit analog, you can however get very close to having it taste like a just opened pack smells. Once you get your head around that, and are expecting that, it's easier to make the switch.

Now for the money savers, learn to re wick and replace heads in your tanks yourself and, learn to do DIY juice. It took me a while to learn it all, but now, this habit-hobby runs me under 200 USD per year If I stick to just what I need. I don't usually because I can afford some "toys" but that's a choice, not what I have to have to be satisfied with vaping.

If you have a vape shop (brick and mortar) anywhere reasonable to go, even for a weekend drive, go, take your gear, get advice, try things out and, try flavors. It saves a lot of trial and error expense. I didn't have a shop close when I started, do now and, it made getting my step son off cigs and on to vaping so much easier and, less costly.

He tried three batteries, 2 cartos and, 4 tanks before picking a setup he liked, then about an hour later, had his 3 flavors of juice, 2 hours, 120.00 and, he is still a happy camper 3 months in.

This is my first post so bear with me. I was looking for pretty much the same thing. After some trial and error without looking for help I found Volcano. I think the inferno ecig starter kit from them would be a good start for you as well. It comes with 2 batteries one slightly larger than the other but, both last me all day. It also comes with a nice tank and a pack of cartos. I've ordered 2 protanks hopefully they will he in today.

I couldn't wait for an internet order--I needed instant gratification--LOL. Vaping is just now getting ramped up in Missouri or the very outer fringes of the St. Louis area anyway and the first shop was closed on Mondays but I found a very small shop with an even smaller selection but they did have the eGo-C Twist batteries and the Kanger EVOD BCC tanks with a 1.8 ohm head. I got one of their recommended tank/head units also--an iClear 16 VW/VV. They order in bulk it appears and didn't have the fancy boxes with the manufacturer's guides &/or instructions.

You were all dead on about the ease of draw. Both head/tank units are nothing like the original NJoy e-cig I tried back in '09 and it does make vapor like my brother-in-laws variable unit but it's a little smaller which is fine with me so far and it's a much easier draw than whatever the gizmo is that his wife uses which she just told me she paid the same amount for as I did. My only complaint in the 5 hours I've been playing with it is it's black. Plain, boring black and it looks too much like my brother-in-law's wife's rig so I just know she & I are going to pick up each other's. That's not a big problem but it's annoying so now that I've become a little more educated, I feel more comfortable about ordering off the internet.

I had the Halo Triton in iridescent in my on-line cart last night but just couldn't finish the checkout without actually seeing how these gizmos work in person and demonstrated by a knowledgeable user.

I really thought about an iTaste MVP (which they also had in the store) but it's just too big. I can see where it would be very handy for a chain-smoking truck driver, though. I'm not to the chain-smoking point yet and now believe I never will be thanks to the guidance on this forum.

Thank you all!

I didn't mean to imply anything about size or sex of a truck driver. I was beginning to chain-smoke analogs during my extremely long trips working for an ethically challenged employer. When I tried the iTaste MVP at the little shop where I got my Ego C's, I was impressed with the amount of vapor and the amount of liquid it could hold without having to pull over to the side of the road & re-fill or change out batteries. My sister-in-law is an OTR truck driver and it would be perfect for her. I needed to stick with something that will fit in my little hipster pouch with my bank card & drivers license. :)

Ok, time to go shopping!!!

If your looking for a nice light draw then one of these will do you.
Kanger ProTank II
AnyVape Davide Glassomizer

I own a Mini version of the Davide. It draws really easy. Almost to the point where I don't like it (I happen to like a tighter draw). But once you get use to it, and learn to be patient with it, it makes a ton of vaper.

Here is a battery that you set the voltage on. It also has a battery charge indacator as well, so you'll know much life you have left on your battery.
$17.93 EGO-VV 1100mAh Rechargeable Variable Voltage E-Cigarette Battery with 0.7" LCD - silver at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
Within that add, at the bottom, and in the drop down box just under the price you can look at a ton of other batteries.

I agree with everyone else as well when it comes to droping a 1.8 coil into your Evod and trying that. Iy will help with the vapor. Maybe not with the draw issue though.

I also agree with looking into rebuilding your own coils and making your own juice. You can stand to save a bunch money from making a small investment for some rudimentary equipment and liquids.

But the best thing to do is take everything we are giving you here and do some homework. Find the names of some of this stuff and go to YouTube and see if someone has done a review on it. Most people cover many of the issues your questioning. Then you can make an informed decision.

Good Luck.

imho, if you are willing to lay out another $100 for a smashing rig, here's what i seriously recommend:

2 of these, yes 2. by using 2, you more than double the battery life as the seem to reset while resting ($66 puls free shipping. you should have it in 2 days. i got my in 2 days all the way in WA.

Itaste VV/VW 3.0 by Innokin - NettMix Custom Vapes

and 3 of these. he's out of stock at the moment though. maybe you could find some local, but they'll be more expensive

AnyVape Davide Mini Glassomizer

i recommend these because if you get spinners, you may/most likely desire an upgrade real soon. just SKIP phase 1 and go right to phase 2. the batteries are variable voltage and wattage. you'll find out why you want that later, but it's better to start. with the mini davides, you'll have glass minitanks. you don't have to worry about juices ruining your clearos. they also come with 3 (re-wickable/recoilable) coils. that'll give you some time to learn a few things. you can make those coils last a long time for pennies on the dollar. re-wicking is child's play.

both batteries are (quasi) pass throughs. you can use the when you are charging. i have 4 of the batteries and 6 of the minis. i get roughly 500 puffs on each battery before recharging. you should be set all day. (longer actually.)

now, just find someplace local to but juice. if you need really cheap (but good juice) go here:

USA Made Nicotine Juice, E Juice, E Liquid, Electronic Cigarette Juice

there is a thread in the e-liquid section where people discuss the flavors. the best thing is vaporfrombaker gets you 10% of and if, after discount, total is more than $15, you get a freebie 15mil. you can request your choice in the comment section. if you oreder early in the morning, they'll make and ship your juice that day, you should have it in 2.

i vape on a budget, and these inexpensive, but marvelous items have me set.

i hope you find something.

Hello everyone!

I would like to quit my 1-2 pack a day mini-cigar habit--only menthols. I switched to cigars from cigarettes for price reasons. I am a tightwad and proud of it but I'm also picky. My favorite little cigarette like cigar was Action but they have been replaced in my area with a brand called Sparrow and I don't like Sparrow. My current favorite is Cheyenne Extreme Menthol little cigarette like cigars--not the Cheyenne cigarettes--those taste like tobacco scented air and burn up like poof! Anyway, the Cheyenne Extreme Menthol is hard to find and it's out of my preferred price range when I do find it--$1.79 per pack. I was only paying 79 cents per pack for the Action brand so it really bugs me to pay more than double.

I tried vaping a couple years ago with an NJOY Pro and did not like it at all and I really did try. It was way too hard to draw and produced very little vapor for me.

Recently, I tried one of the non-variable EVOD devices and while it was better than my experience with the NJOY, it still didn't have enough of a hit for me and seemed too hard too draw through but my brother-in-law has a variable one and seems to be able to draw plenty with his.

So, I guess I need some help finding the easiest draw, lots of vapor, good throat hit but not like an unfiltered Kool, and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a bazillion little atomizers, tanks, batteries and cartridges. I don't mind putting the little drops in like the EVOD used but I don't want to do it every time I decide to vape, either so I'm guessing I will probably want to refill the cartomizer things to start and maybe work up to the tanks or can I pre-fill some tanks and just swap them out like the cartomizers? I don't mind fiddling with all the little pieces but I don't want to set it up every single day and I don't want to make it take any longer in the mornings to get myself and my vaporizer ready for work than absolutely necessary.

Do they make a no-fuss, no-muss e-cigarette yet that doesn't cost a fortune & still provides a "smoking" experience? Would I be better off with the e-pipes? I don't really care what it looks like either as long as it works.

1. Easy Draw--very easy. NJOY is out--way out. EVOD was better but did't provide enough vapor on the non-variable model I tried.
2. Good vapor to lots of vapor.
3. Option to refill or larger capacity tank so it doesn't have to be refilled 20 times per day.
4. Decent battery life. I can carry spares easily enough but I think 3 should last me an entire day easily.
5. Pricing has to be no more than $2.00 per day on average and preferably $1.50 per day on average.

Is there such an animal out there?

Thank you!

I will be anxiously watching for replies!
