Newbie Question Re: Throat Hit

Hello - I'm a new guy here.

I got my first ecig this past friday - 17 year smoker of 25 a day - ecig made me quit without even planning to. Anyway, the one thing I can already see myself missing is the nice burning throat hit of cigarettes.

I bought a 510, and while there is a fair throat hit while direct dripping the first two to three puffs, it dies out after about the 4th puff.

A couple questions:

1. In your experience, what is the best model of ecig for throat hit? Is there a mod that will create more?

2. Does the ejuice make a difference in throat hit?

Low resistance attys or cartomizers will produce more of a TH.

More PG in the liquid makes more TH.

Maybe different juice, different ratio of pg/vg, increase nicotine level. I think your model supposedly gets the best throat hit, so maybe the juice?

*an HV e-cig
*LR atomizers
*sometimes just a different juice flavor (pear?)
*add a couple of drops of everclear to your juice

Hi and welcome to ECF. What model gives the best throat hit? Since you mentioned mods, yes most run at a true 3.7 volts or higher. Something in the 5v range with a 3.2 ohm atty will give better vapor and throat hit, go down to 3.0 and you might not be able to take it. If you want to try HV cheaply to see if it'll do it for you just order one of these MadVapes 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough, and one of these 2 amp AC to USB Adapter, ideal for Passthroughs and a couple of atty's in the 3.0 ohm range. This'll let you try 5v for less than $30 if you've already got the atty's. If you like it you can go on to order a good mod.

E-juice makes a difference in TH too. Try some 100% PG juice and it'll help a bit even with your standard 510.

Yeah I'll 3rd LR atties for TH and heat.

I can't even smoke em myself on a 510 battery, makes me feel like its punching me in the brain from the roof of my mouth.

I still keep one around in my PCC just for when my buds try mine and tell me it's nothing like the hit of a real cig, I'm like here try this lr carto with 24 mg menthol in it, tell me it's not for tough guys .

IMO - if you vape one hit after another the TH goes away. Pace yourself. In the beginning I vaped 24mg and used menthol. Put menthol drops in everything because it gave me the feeling of smoking. After two months I've moved past that...

What juice are you using? If it is a VG juice that dulls the TH. If you have low or no nicotine that removes the TH and you would need an additive like Qhit.

I usually use 70pg/30vg or 80pg/20vg juices. Try 510 cartomizers for more consistent size hits. And manual batteries.

And if a 510 isn't enough TH then you could try its fat battery model Ego which gives you enough power to use LR (low resistance) attys and cartos for hotter harder hits.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the very helpful replies. Yes, I am using a VG juice right now - menthol from evapers at 14mg strength. My PG juices should be in tomorrow morning so I will have to give those a go. I may look into getting an LR setup, but I would need to buy en ego setup.

I got my new ejuices in today. I'm not a big fan of any of them I received. I got the blue top bottle ones as follows:

1. USA Mix (Marlboro - tastes nothing like a Marly);
2. Ry4 - not a fan - doesn't taste like tobacco to me;
3. Smooth Tobacco - tolerable;
4. Menthol - going to mix this with the yucky juices to make them better;
5. Coffee - yuck.

* All the tobacco ones have a nasty aftertaste.

They are all PG mixes, so the throat hit was good, but the flavours are just a turn off.

My fav so far is the first one I got from Evapers - Menthol. Tastes so damn good! Like an After 8 mint. Going to pick up some fruity type flavours this week and see if I can find a few 'favourites'.

Just mixed the gross ones with Menthol. Quite tolerable now. Now I need some VG to make vapour a bit better.

VG gives the least TH. You are vaping Chinese juices. Try some nice US-made juices. Try 70PG/30VG or for more TH 80PG/20VG (Backwoods Brew is 70/30, FreedomSmokeUSA offers a variety on almost all of their tobaccos and many other juices), and there are a lot more good juice vendors.

Also - no matter where you buy juices, you can't expect to like every juice you buy. Everyone's taste is different. Every mixer's take on Marlboro is different. etc. Somebody probably loves every juice you don't. You can up your success rate by reading the reviews and on the juice site if there are some. I consider it a win if I love one out of every 4 juices I buy.

And maybe try cartomizers for more consistent hits as well as a manual battery if you bought auto

Then if the 510 can't give you enough TH, upgrade to an Ego wtc which has enough power and strong enough switches to run LR atomizers and cartos which draw more power and run hotter

This is going to sound weird and I don't know how it happened like this but I first bought ry4 in VG, loved it for like a day, then it was too much for me so I started vaping the camel that camel that came with my starter kit, started running low on that juice so I mixed some of the ry4 in, tasted much better, then I ran out of the camel and the ry4 kind tastes oddly better. It's only been 4 days without analogs but the tastes seem to be changing? Maybe I am having some kinda weird effect from giving up the analogs who knows. today I found a cart with some camel left in it and I didn't really get the same Taste as before. It's quite confusing. Never less going to buy a crap load of small samples this weekend because I have read here that my tastes may keep changing for a little while, something to do with giving up the analogs.

Gah I don't want to think about that! Every time i see a nifty looking pv or new toy I want to run out and buy it! I just know I am going to go mad scientist on this vaping thing and have a whole cabinet full of flavor concentrates, a whole bunch of different PVs, the works. Ahm skeered! But I can't lie I love it. Now I just have to pace till I get my tank and a zillion new flavors. Lol. About 7 more sleeps til I get my tornado T. And the mixing begins!

I hope I don't poison myself lol. I think I will be ok though I am doing a bunch of research here and on YouTube.

THere is a member turned vendor here - southern ambrosia (eekaa) and she has run some "texas samplers" on weekend for $4 (3ml size) and includes a eternal holiday, happy rancher and tasty turtle. I also won a sweet tea during one of her contests - they were all fantastic and for cheap you can try some sweeter and fruity flavors.

98% of throat hit is the warmth of the vapor (bigger batteries/lower atty resistence) and nicotine strength. VG, PG and additives like PGA to the juice is 2% at best. At a minimum get a bigger 3.7 volt battery device such as an eGo. But if you want the best throat hit with the most consistency, then move up to a good 5 volt PV, such as the GLV2 from Great Lakes Vapor or a good variable volt PV.

PG alone may be pretty harsh. Drink fluids. If it is too harsh and makes you tongue, throat or lungs sore then get a spare empty bottle from somewhere (ask a pharmacy to sell you an empty eyedrops bottle?) and try mixing up some 50/50 pg/vg or some 70pg/30vg etc. with your PG and VG juices.

I ordered my new set of juices today from evapers. I got a bunch of fruit flavours and menthol (their menthol is absolutely delicious). I got 100% PG mixes, but also ordered the same nic strength in flavourless VG so that I can cut my mixes a bit. Also ordered an Ego-T and am so excited!
