A friend of mine is very interested in getting into e-cigs and I'm not sure what to suggest. He was cussing me a little bit yesterday because he wanted a cigarette but didn't feel like going outside while I was sitting there clouding up the room with my eGo.
I switch between my eGo-C battery with the eGo cone and Smoktech tanks and the e-power 18650 throughout the day. I've left the 510 and Fuma behind because they're not as good.
I was thinking about suggesting and eGo-C kit just for ease of use and reliability (reliable as long as you jam the wick down in the atomizer anyway).
I've heard good things about the kgo kits but I'm not sure about suggesting something I don't own already.
With the whole ego battery venting issue I'm not sure if I want to recommend any ego style batteries that aren't made by Joyetech.
With the possible dangers associated with 18650 batteries I'm not sure if I want to recommend the e-power 14650 or 18650.
He tried my Copper Creek House blend and Irish cream and said that the Irish cream would be the first flavor he would buy. I told him that when trying new flavors to get the smallest bottle possible so he wouldn't be out a ton of money if it tasted like crap.
So what should I suggest for a new guy that really wants to get his wife and daughter away from the smell of smoke while still retaining his sanity.

Oh hell, why not just skip all the newbie stuff right from the get go and have him get a Provari V2. Have him watch a couple of pbusardo and igetcha69 videos and he'll be off and running. He'll love playing around with it, zeroing in on his sweet spot voltage, checking ohms and stuff. After all, he's got you to point him here to ECF where he'll have all the knowlege and help he'll ever need to any questions that arise.

If you think about it, and he's a born vaper, you'll probably save him money in the long run. I know I would have saved a bundle if I bough a Provari first instead of going the typical route of V2, ego, lava tube, and sooner or later, a Provari (damn, that V2 purchase really hurt the wallet lol).

...and if he doesn't like it, you can snatch it from him. :)

I don't think he will be to keen on the idea of dropping $180 on a variable voltage pv. I've used my dads lavatube a few times and I'm not sold on the idea of variable voltage. I am however sold on low resistance, dual coils and the eGo-C.
The only reason I ask instead of just telling him to get an eGo-C is because I know there are some kits that are around $40 or $50 but I want to be sure they're simple to use, reliable and put off clouds of vapor similar to when you smoke a cigarette.
When I first started using an e-cig (510) it seemed like something was lacking and I wasn't able to make the switch to them easily.
When I got the eGo-C as well as the Smoktech tanks and cartomizers was when I was able to finally do it because of the massive amount of vapor they produce.
I believe seeing massive vapor when I vape was the ticket to get me off cigarettes for good and I'm betting it will be the same for my friend.

I just hooked up the low resistance atomizer on the 510 and it's putting off quite a bit of vapor with the house blend. It still has a little bit of the last flavor put in it lingering though. I think that would be a good route to go to get him started. The thing I really don't like about the 510 is the small amount of juice the tips hold but I can just tell him to carry a 3ml bottle with him for when it starts getting low.
I have a bunch of 2.5-10 ml bottles of juice that I don't care for that I can give him too. I think I can part with some of the house blend and coffee from Copper Creek as well since I have a couple big bottles of those.

I was using the 510 while I typed this and started getting the taste change as if it were out of juice and I know I didn't dry it out that fast. Now I remember why I didn't care for it: inconsistent flavor. The same amount of vapor is being produced but the taste changed for the worse. The house blend doesn't taste the same in it either.

I guess it's back to the ego so I can chain vape.

That sounds like great advice (and it is) but I really believe that most of us have to work our way up to the big vv mods. I don't regret going through the 510 stage and the ego stage (I do regret going through the lavatube stage:glare:) When I first started, someone gave me some advice, to skip the small steps and go right for the big boy toys, that it would save me money in the long run. It certainly would have. BUT, I wasn't ready. I still had no idea what I was doing. Back then, there wasn't as much information as there is now and there weren't that many out-of-the-box kits. So I ordered kits. I don't know that I would have appreciated what my provari could do if I hadn't had the other devices that got me to it. Some people are satisfied with their ego/kgo/riva/gogo that they never feel the need to move up. And that is fine. If I had to, I could go back to being satisfied with a kgo (ego is a bit too low voltage for me) and some LR cartos...and a tank

To get a Provari, the batts, charger and whatever cartos or attys he would need, it would cost him around $200.. and that's not counting juice. that's a lot to spend as a newbie. An ego type pv is an excellent starter device. Over on the provari forum, I see quite a few first time starters going right to the provari and then not know what to do with it or how it all works. I had to learn it all on my own, with ecf as a guide, but then you'll notice that everyone's experience isn't the same. some love one thing and some love another. It's hard to wade through all the info and find what works for you.

This was just my experience, I'm sure there are others who are ready way quicker than I was and your friend my be one of them, or he might not be. He has you right there to coach him and advise him and that is way more than most of us have/had.

My two cents... a KGO with some 1.7ohm resurrectors from Crystal Clear Vaping would be an excellent place for someone to start. I started with the V2 (yes, very expensive but did the trick for me) My KGO is my third setup and I so wish I had started with it. Pretty inexpensive,, less than $50 and I wouldn't suggest using the atty's for a newbie.. I hated mine. Carto girl, all the way. Hoosier ECig Supply has the new KGO with the safety switch and he has tons of cartos too.. really, really recommend the KGO for a beginner. Awesome throat hit and tons of vapor too:vapor:

I realized the other day that he lives close to madvapes in cornelius (sp?) nc so I'm going to send him there for his stuff. i was talking to him yesterday and told him that the 900mah ego style batteries and smoktech dual coil mega cartomizers are the most reliable thing i have used so i am going to have him get that setup. i have been seeing where boge 2.0 cartomizers that are slotted then crammed into a tank are really reliable but i can't recommend that setup until i try them out.
