Newbie to e-cigs, with a few questions...

Hey guys! This is my first post, after reading through the forums for a few days now. Nice to meet ya.

In addition to being new to the forum, I am also new to the vaping world. As such, I am full of questions and have a few that I hope someone can help answer for me!

I had a very basic vape pen for a month or two, but it stopped working after the e-liquid constantly leaked into the battery from the tank (at least that's what I think happened). I really liked vaping and had a little more cash to spend this time around, so I picked up a mechanical mod (Tesla M5) with a Kanger tank. Upon arriving home and giving it a whirl, I noticed that the hits feel extremely harsh and not much vapor is being produced. Any ideas as to what could be going wrong? Did I just pick out low quality parts?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome. A mech mod with a regular atomizer is not the way to go as you are pumping massive power to it. Mech mods are best wit your rba/rta style. Atomizers and clearo style tanks work better with regulated devices like ego/evod istick mvp and such. You can control volts and watts to these devices where as with a mech its based off your batteries strength.

Hi, and welcome to ECF :)

Yes, a mechanical like the M5 has no voltage control at all, and the amount of power will depend on the charge state of the battery and the resistance of the coil. So it could well be very harsh and hot with a full charge, and as the voltage drops from normal use, become very nice, and then too weak... which is when it's time to recharge.

Hence the advent of variable styles, first VV and then VW. Both let you adjust for what you like in vapor production and flavor. (Within the limits of the device, of course.)

Not sure on the M5, but short of buying a VV/VW device, you could see if a Kick module would work in it. That's a small control device that goes inside the tube, on top of the battery, that has a small adjustment potentiometer that lets you adjust the power. Most are VW, although they did come out with a VV version as well. (Not all tube mods have enough room inside for it to fit, so check before buying!)

Or, although you didn't say which Kanger tank you got, you could get some coils for it in a higher resistance value. That would result in a lower wattage vape at the fixed voltage which may be fine for the largest "middle" range of the battery. (They typically come off the charger at 4.2/4.1, drop fairly quickly to 3.9, and stay in the 3.9 - 3.6 range for quite some time, then drop off quickly from there. NEVER run them less than 3.2, or they may not recharge. Recharging early is good for them - I usually swap at 3.6)

Massive power?... 4.2volts?

Seems a bit overstated really.

The problem is almost certainly in the Kanger tank. Whether the O.P. needs to go up or down resistance is a matter of taste really. I can understand the "harsh" comment, but "not much vapour" is more of a worry.

I use regular atomizers from time to time on mech mod. Depends on the atomizer (tank) in all fairness.
