So what are you looking for in particular? A larger mass-market type battery like the eGo or Go Go, or are you thinking of stepping up to a mod like Silver Bullet or Roughstack or something? I suppose the main question to start off with would be, what kind of aesthetic are you after? Large, feels like a handful? Sleeker, lighter, easier to stick in a shirt pocket inconspicuously?

How would I know? There is so much crap out there on line, searching the web is pointless, and up until a couple of days ago, when I joined this site, that was all the info I had, other than bad purchases.

What I want is a Marlboro cigarette, but I have gained enough knowledge to know that that is not going to happen.

When I started out, a couple of weeks ago, I wanted something that looked and felt like a smoke in my hand. I don't know why, a pyschoanalyst could probably figure it out for me, but I don't think that piece of information is worth paying for.

Now I no longer care about the look and feel. I want a practical nicotine delivery device for a hard core smoker, but taste does matter.

Okay, so then for a reliable, easy, not-too-big PV with good battery life and low maintenance, I would suggest going with something like the Joye eGo. It's bigger than a 510/Volt but smaller than most mods, fits nicely in a pocket and has been the workhorse of most of us here at one point or another. I have 6 of them myself, great little devices. A typical kit comes with 2 650mAh batteries (good for 4-8 hours of vaping or more depending on how much you vape and what you've got attached), 2 atomizers, 5 cartridges, charger(s) and possibly a little carry pouch.

For what to put your liquid in, if you want a no-hassle, fill-and-forget system that you can fill in the morning and still be vaping at bedtime, get some eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizers (colloquially known around here as EMDCCs.) These are high performing, large volume cartomizers tailor made for the eGo. They hold around 4.5ml and for me, lasted me more than a full day on a single fill. They perform great, taste great, produce plenty of vapor, and are inexpensive enough ($2.50 ea. from MadVapes) that if you don't want to be bothered with cleaning them you're not spending a whole lot of money to replace them.

As for taste ... well, that's where the fun happens. Taste is always subjective of course so what juice to use and what strength is going to be a matter you're going to have to try for yourself. You already know you won't get the flavour of burning tobacco and paper, so if you have some idea of what you want we can probably steer you in the general direction of what might satisfy you. But be aware also that oftentimes, what we think we want turns out not always to be what we actually want. Lots of people enjoy tobacco flavours, and many of us when first starting out thought that's what we should get too, but ultimately discovered we preferred something else entirely, so don't be surprised if you get something and find you've a hankering for something else instead. Or not -- we're all different. :)

It may take you some time to really find what you want, but as far as I'm concerned, an eGo setup with some EMDCCs is a great starting point.

If you want to stick with the kr808d-1 battery there are lots of choices. I think that elegant might have been replaced with the elite.

I have a set of IGOs for an all day, out and about battery/carto combo. But I still like my VOLT automatics. I use the longer volt batteries and have 4 of them. I found that the battery doesn't charge fast enough with 2. But with 3 batteries on the charger and one in my mouth I can have uninterrupted vaping all day. Just need to stay close to the charger.

browse this thread for kr808d-1 info..

I am pretty new to vaping and this forum but I have both a Joye 510 with manual battery and a Riva 510 with manual battery as well. The battery life and vapor production are much better on the Riva. I know this may not be compatable with what you presently have but for the price and performance I can highly recommend the Riva lite kit from Liberty-flights.com.

Hope you find what your looking for.

Thanks, all, I really do appreciate the advice.

Searching the web, I was overloaded with useless information. Here I am still overloaded, but the information is useful.

It can be very bewildering at first. I spent a solid week researching before I took the plunge, and even then I still felt like I knew next to nothing, only that what I finally decided to buy was considered pretty good by the day's standards. Turns out it was indeed.

The thing is, just get something good to start with. You don't have to plunk down a huge sum of money at first and what you buy probably won't be what you stay with forever anyway, but as long as what you get off the ground floor with is pretty good and you buy some decent juice and some good cartomizers from a reputable vendor, you can worry about the rest of the overload later. ;)

As I suggested, the eGo is a great starter kit, versatile and extremely well supported just about everywhere with loads of carto, atty and tank options available. An eGo plus some EMDCCs and some halfway decent juice will get you going well enough to make a solid determination if this is going to work for you, and you can take it wherever you wish to go from there.

The only thing that will give your existing cartos more oomph is a variable voltage device. A fat battery Elegant Easy or other 901/KR8 threaded device will not give it more oomph at all, and may even give it LESS oomph because many fat battery models are not 3.7v and are more like 3.3v. KR808D-1 (Volt, Vapor4Life) is 3.7v. So even if you get a true 3.7v fat battery device or mod, all that will give you is longer battery charge. A variable voltage device would give you more charge AND let you crank up the heat a bit.

If you want more heat regardless of connection type, I would recommend 510 threading, 3.7v or VV device, and then you have access to all of the wide array of 510-thread low resistance atomizers and cartomizers and tanks etc.

I recommend the 14650 e-power and some duel coil cartomizers. The e-power has a modular design for inexpensive parts replacement, and it's one of the best bang for buck mods out there imo. The duel coil cartos provide good vapor that you'll definitely feel in your upper chest and I think that'll go a long way toward getting you completely smoke free. Madvapes, hoosierecigsupply, and others have the e-power if you want to check it out.

Thanks again all, still learning, but I am getting more knowledgeable.

I picked up a couple of Echo batteries (I couldn't find anywhere I could buy the iGo) and cartomizers, and they are nice. A little hefty for my taste, I still carry the Volts when I go out, but I use the Echo all day at my desk.

I haven't smoked (I am not allowed), but even with some of the best devices, I still miss my smokes. Is this normal?

This is not a nicotine thing, I am getting plenty of that, sometimes more than enough (especially when I get a new toy, or a new flavor). I guess I just really like burning paper and carbon monoxide.
