Hello all!
I am very new to vaping and this site. Puffer free for 3 1/2 weeks now, and after 33 years...that's a huge deal for me. The weird thing is....thanks to vaping, I don't even miss them. After certain activities, I sometimes think I need to go smoke, but it's just the habit.
Anywho, on to my question... I have been reading that many flavors, because they really haven't been studied or tested, are thought to be possibly unsafe for inhalation. Some people say they are only vaping a pg/vg/saline solution. I'm afraid that without the flavorings, it would take the new excitement out of it, and I would just go back to smoking. So I'm thinking the flavorings are really the lesser of two evils! Any thoughts on this...or maybe thoughts on flavors that might be safer for inhalation than others?

Thanks for any thoughts/ideas!

an excerpt from an article i found that i found interesting..

The majority of the vapor samples were found to have no adverse effects on cardiac cells, with cell survival rates similar to cells cultured in clear medium. However, there were 4 samples showing reduced cell survival. Dr Farsalinos stated: “This study confirmed our suspicions that any problems with e-cigarette liquids do not come from the main ingredients (propylene glycol or glycerol) but from flavorings. There is a very small proportion of flavorings which may cause some harm, but this is still lower compared to tobacco cigarettes by orders of magnitude. Characteristically, even the worst performing e-liquids in our study (produced by using tobacco leaves to extract flavor) were 3 times less harmful compared to cigarette smoke. In any case, it should be reminded that flavors play an important role in the acceptance and success of e-cigarette as a smoking substitute, but i believe that all flavors need to be tested in order to identify which are the least harmful to use.”

the entire article is found here...Evaluation of the cytotoxic potential of e-cigarette vapor on cultured cardiac cells: a new study

eicigs are a reduced harm alternative,,, that's a fact. as to what type of flavorings you use, that is a personal decision that should be based on your own research.

Hi Crimson68 and welcome. There have been studies on flavors and continue to be more and having said that I would suggest the you either go online or to your favorite vapestore, find a flavor that you like that has clear informative labeling on it and vape! :D Find the PG/VG/NIC that works for you in the flavor(s) that you like or think you may like and enjoy. I've been in your shoes as have most of the folks on this board and I can tell you from a personal level that I too was concerned about the warnings/fears/misinformation and I feel pretty confident that the eliiquids I buys/make are from reliable sources. So enjoy and don't look back!

I'm still so new to this I am still testing flavors. When I bought my mod (mvp2) I got 5 flavors, and when I asked for the Redhots, she said "are you sure... that's vapor crack!" Lol, she wasn't kidding...it's my fav so far, followed closely by RY4 with a vanilla kicker. I'm going to go broke...I'm obsessed with all these flavors. The mvp2 was a fabulous choice!

I would say stay away from super dark flavors, but asides from that compared to what they put into cigarettes your golden as long as you stay away from cigs. There are certain additaves like diacetyl that are added in buttery flavor known to cause problems in lungs but from what I've seen they have to label that as an additive since its been found as a cause for an illness called popcorn lung. But i cant stress to you enough how much better for you vaping is as compared to its filthy predecessor. i could post a list of all 1000 ingredients added to cigs, as compared to the handful that are used in making e-liq but i think you get the point lol.

Happy Vaping my friend and good luck on your journey! Dont get too hung up on rumors of e-liq being bad for you until there is a legitimate study done not funded by big tobacco XD. And when your more comfortable with vaping look into mixing your own liquids, just be sure to do your homework before you play around with it! If it helps i use Wizard Labs they have most big name flavorings even LorAnn natural flavors that should be additive free!

hope this helps and pardon my usual long-winded rant XD

ZUKERglass, funny you should mention making my own, I have seriously been considering it. Some of the liquids I have purchased seem very weak or have a kinda chemical taste I don't care for. I wonder if it might be the PG or VG, but I don't know enough about this stuff yet to know. I think the place I get my juice from uses all PG instead of a combo mix. I think I would prefer VG.

Oh, just remembered my other question... I want to purchase a inexpensive back-up to my mvp2. No I haven't had a single problem with it, it has been very easy to use although I am still playing around with the vv/vw, to understand what each controls. But just in the event I absolutely need one...any suggestions? Key words...inexpensive and dependable, quality at a decent price....something along those lines. Did you buy one as a backup and it turned out to be so impressive it's now your primary? Let's say...hmmm...$40ish?
Thanks, you guys have been great.
You know, when I first started Vaping, actually before in my brief thinking about it stage...everytime I would google an inquiry....99% of the time, the first suggested answer/comment would come from an ecf thread. Now I just skip google and come straight here. I love it here...if you'll put in a cot with a squishy pillow and old quilt...I'll stay!!!! Lol

Seems to me if you want to spend $40 for a back up to your MVP, you should just get another MVP. Is there something I'm missing?

You can go less expensive than $40 and get an eGo battery. They have all sizes and colors but if you have a bigger tank it can look a little awkward as eGo is more of a pen-style battery. I started out on an eGo-C Twist 1100mah (variable voltage) and a Kanger Protank 2. It comes with the "beauty ring" to smoothly transition from the bigger tank to the smaller battery but it is top heavy for sure. You can get the 1300mah version which is a bit wider, shorter, and lasts longer. A year later my (and my wife's) eGo-C Twists are still going strong although the fire button is a bit flaky now on mine....probably because I have dropped it so many times. :p And almost every tank works with the eGo battery as it also has the 510 connection for tanks without eGo threading (and most of those tanks come with the beauty ring for a smooth transition from tank to battery). I've since moved on to bigger APVs and better tanks but the eGo is a great backup battery in a pinch.

Well Joe, I would like to stay under $40, but if there were a mod someone really recommended at $40, I would consider paying it. I paid $70 for my mvp2, although that was for the kit, so maybe it's possible to get another for $40 or less, but as I said at the beginning of this thread, I'm new to vaping and there are a ton of things I don't know. But, I appreciate your sarcasm, I just don't get enough of that in my non-online life.

MVP's are around 40 to less than on ebay, just check the reputation of the seller, but we didn't pay over forty for the four no make that five we've bought (we gave one away to a friend with breast cancer who was wanting to quit smoking) that's the "back up" for 'round the house and a couple of the Aspire eGo type for out and about.

Thanks Michael, I have been looking at those, but when looking online they make them all sound good. There are so many, I like that it's variable voltage, I like my tobacco blend a little warmer, but my strawberry cotton candy, not so much. Lol. Sounds like it would be good for me, I change tanks a lot, I like to keep several flavors on hand. I'm changing these suckers out like a wild west gunslinger. I think because this is new to me my taste buds wear out on certain flavors quickly. Except my Redhots, it just burns them off, but oh do I love it!
Thanks again, sounds like a good match for me.
