Hello all, sorta newbie here. Started vaping some 2 months ago, got myself first a eGo-T system with a 1000mAh battery, of course, not joyetech. Now running those two with a vivi nova and a CE6. happy so far, other than with the fact that the batteries need recharging often.

Been using dekang (boge?) liquids simply because of the price (and if i go with higher quality liquids, i might as well go back to cigs, since it would be cheaper here, so, yeah :p )

Anyhow, i'm looking into building my own system for 510 threaded additions (currently, only vivi nova tanks, since i couldnt get a thread for the ego-style stuff, yet), whilst using just normal NiMH batteries, since Li-Ion's myriad hilarities make them very undesireable for me. also, i just bought 8 2500mAh AA nimh batteries for 8€ in a random shop, so that availiblity is also a huuuge argument in favour of them.

I'm not too shy for tinkering and i like to think i have a good soldering hand so, yeah :D
This endeavour has been inspired by the Puck, obviously, but first and foremost, i wonder, are there any others of the sort running around?

Welcome to ECF.

I'd suggest welcoming or saying "Hi" or "Congratulations" to a few other newbies....get at least 5 posts (or maybe 10), wait about an hour, and then post this type of question in the modding section.

For future reference....DIY generally refers to making your own e-juice. Modding refers to making e-cigs (or modifying them).

Modding Forum

Again...Welcome aboard.

I also realised i forgot to ask one more thing. What are these so called "mechanicals" i've seen mentioned around? Battery styles where the button fire button is also basically a master-switch, connecting the battery to the rest of the circuit or?

They are called mechanicals because there is no protection circuit (or voltage or amp control) between the battery and the atomizer and the switch to protect you if there is a short causing the battery to overheat and vent (bad thing - please read the modding forum listed above for your safety)
most mechs buttons just push against the battery to complete the circuit and have mechanical type lock to keep from firing

Fun stuff and proves i worked it out right... I've spent the last few weeks or so reading up on stuff and its why i want to go modding as soon as possible, simply to avoid all the lovely safety issues of Lithium-based batteries.

NiMH mod? Here's a good place to start...

How to build the Puck

I've built a few of these and they're pretty easy. Not mechanical, but no electronics except for the LED and its resistor. ThePuck has a site he links in there with several variations and tips.

Thank you for the link, but that is where i got the inspiration from in the first place :)

I'm wondering if there've been any other similar mods done? Cursory googling did not give any result other than the puck page at the moment, sooo... :D
