Hi everyone! My FIL gave me a Tececig kit he purchased, and while I have read around the forums and can see this is not the way most folks would go, it's what I've got and money is a factor - can't afford another kit right now. I am almost relieved that I have this one because if I had to choose between the scads of different makes and models, I think my head would explode! So - just started playing with it today, and all I've got are four 6mg cartridges and a bunch of 0mg. Not going to work long-term for this pack-a-day girl. I figure I can spend around $25 and get about a month's worth of cartridges, but I'm not sure if that's preferable to just buying one pack and then getting refill liquid. I would think I'd need to get the same flavor (since they don't seem to have empty cartridges). Also, haven't gotten to the "burnt" taste on a cartridge yet, but am I to understand they are not refillable once they taste like that? I have to quit smoking "real" cigarettes, no ifs ands or butts (ha!) about it, and this is my only avenue right now. I'd like to quickly transition to the 0mg (like within a month). I'm going to continue to read on the forums, but thought I'd ask if there's any other suggestions or tips you might have for me. Thanks a million!

I'm not familiar with that brand, so I can't help you, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can.

Welcome to ECF. You've come to the right place. Lots of helpful folks around here.

If you've been smoking a pack a day, that would be about $40 a week in cigs. For just a little more (about $60 - about 1.5 week of cigs) you could get a nice kit that would get you started plus some juice in a nicotine strength that would satisfy your cravings. Think about it before you invest much more in 6mg cartridges that aren't satisfying your nicotine needs.

I started out just like you. One thing I learned later than I wished is that even though they say the carts that came with your are not refillable. They are. I take the little plastic cap off the mouth piece and add my drops of juice. I usually do 8 to 10 drops. If you have regular tobacco carts you can use coffee, menthol, vanilla and some of the drink flavors pretty well with out making it taste bad. Hope this helps.

Hi Okfarmgirl, Welcome to the ECF. You Would be best served, in my opinion, to purchase empty cartridges(or preferably cartomizers) and some e-liquid to fill them with. If you smoke a pack per day you should begin somwhere around 18-24 and work you way down from there. Dont get in too much of a hurry to work your way to 0 also. It is pretty commonly accepted that nicotine is no more detrimental to you than caffine and other widely accepted stimulants. Droping down too quickly often carries more stress than is really necessary. Good Luck to you all the same. Happy Vaping.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm out of analogs at the moment, and I'm sick and sore-throaty, so I don't really want to buy more. I'm thinking I may pop down to Walgreens to get something in the meantime until I can order carts and juice. The strengths they have are as follows:

0mg (no nicotine)
6mg (ultra light)
11mg (light)
16mg (light to normal)
24mg (full flavored or unfiltered)
(from their website)

So I was thinking of starting with 16, since I smoke lights now. I've been puffing happily along on vanilla 0mg, but I'm not a fan of of the cherry flavor that has the 6mg. I think I could forgo the tobacco flavor altogether - it's more the habit (hand to mouth) than the flavor for me. Iusedtoanalog, I think it's probably good advice not to drop so quickly. I will see how it goes. Do you think the 16 is strong enough to start with? How do I know when to stop? I mean, the cig never "ends" and I find myself mindlessly vaping. Not so much a problem on those 0mg, but IS it a problem on the leaded ones? I would think it'd make you feel sick, like smoking too much, but I could be wrong. All new to me, but I'm willing to learn!

I actually started out with Tececig’s.
It’s a standard KR808-D1 that they’ve rebranded (and marked up substantially) and will take blank cartomizers with the 808 threading. Their cartomizers are rated at 3 ohms.

They are based out of Bloomington Il and have a kiosk and a vapor lounge in the mall there. I was able to buy juice and blank cartomizers at their mall location. Their prices are high, but it might get you through the time period while waiting for mail delivery from an on-line vendor that has better prices.

It’s not a bad product, but there are better (next generation) products out there (see smokeless image Volt) that look and operate the same. One thing about Tececig is that they have a “lifetime warranty” on their batteries. They actually honor their warranty and I have exchanged two bad batteries with no questions asked.

I have extra cartomizers, and if you live in the Bloomington area please PM me (when you get the required 5 posts) and I can meet you at a starbucks or someplace to give you a few and show you how to refill them. I DON’T want you to have to go back to smoking while waiting for stuff!

Since nicotine is absorbed more slowly with e-cigs, you can't compare the nicotine content of cigarettes with them. Generally, people start out at 36mg or 24mg and cut down later. I went from 24mg to 18mg.

On thing you can try is getting a bottle of 24mg juice and a bottle of the same juice in 0mg. If the 24mg is too strong, you can cut it down with the 0mg juice.

It looks like you're kit has automatic batteries which probably aren't sealed, so you have to be careful when filling blank cartomizers. If juice gets inside the battery it will damage the battery.

At first you will probably vape like a research monkey, but you'll get a regular routine after awhile. I just kind of take a couple of puffs here and there when I feel the craving. Until you are comfortable with the whole thing, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Hi okfarmgirl and welcome to ECF. The threading on the Tececig is 808 meaning you can prolly buyer cheaper blank cartomizers + juice and fill them yourself.
Here's pre filled cartomizers:
Cartomizers | Vapor4Life
Blank 808 cartomizers:
KR808D-1 blank cartomizer - package of five stainless
use code "VKBC" for 10% off

and Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Refill Cartridges has blanks and pre filled but VaporKings is the cheapest.

Juice you can buy as cheap as $10.00 per 30 ml.
Good Luck.

Good info Harplayr, (do you really play the harp? How interesting)

I think your kit is a lot better than you might think okfarmgirl.

Get some cartomizers along with some decent 18mg juice and I think you will be good to go.

Let me tell you a little story that may help convince you-

3 years ago when the NY Yankees were playing their last games at Yankee Stadium before moving to their new stadium I was lucky enough to receive some tickets to one of their late season games. There is NO SMOKING in their stadiums and it IS strictly enforced. By just the second inning I was crawling up the walls for a smoke. By the 4th inning I was MISERABLE. One inning later I was ready to leave, walk to my car, and listen to the rest of the game on the radio while smoking my head off sitting in the parking ramp. Instead I took a cigarette, broke it in half and stuck that half between my cheek and my gums and 10 minutes later I was FINE.

I am telling you this cuz I feel many of the folks in this forum under estimate the usefulness of some of the "lower end" kits available that folks like you happen to stumble on to. What you NOW HAVE is a lot better than just sticking half a cigarette between your cheek and gums and it WILL help you more than you probably realize. Get some 18 mg juice and a box of cartomizers and you WILL BE good to go.

That is super sweet of you. We're a few hours away - I'm about an hour south of Rockford.

What is the likelihood that a local tobacconist would carry juice/cartomizers? I'm thinking of doing a smoke-shop troll this morning w/my husband to see if anyone has them locally.

So any 808 cartomizer will work? My FIL who gave it to me lives 45 min. away and said the place he got it is 10 miles from him. May have to drive for a visit - just gotta check gas tank!

Absolutely!
There are some PV snobs that will slam anything but the latest and greatest.
So many of us started out and successfully quit smoking analogs using entry level kits, and I’m one of them.

The Tececig works just fine, and they do back up their product. There are a lot of companies that sell inferior products and give you the brush-off when they fail. This isn’t one of them.

My only wish is that since they went to the expense to open a nice brick and mortar store in the local mall, why don’t they sell more advanced products in addition to their starter kits? They are slowly but surely building a clientele of people happily switching from smoking to vaping, so it would just make sense to me for them to up their game and keep those customers as repeat customers.

I would LOVE to have a really good B&M store in the area, and would be willing to pay a small premium to be able to try out stuff and not have to stalk the mailman.

Okay, so I was checking out VaporGod's website, and was pretty flabbergasted that there are SO many flavors available. This is seriously like some kind of cool-kid sub-culture I was completely unaware of until 24 hours ago. Okay, so my biggest complaint about this ecig is that the vapor is kind of pathetic (full-charge, new cart), although if I do an actual 4 second drag, I get decent vapor. I was more of a fast-drag smoker, as I work in retail and have to make smoke breaks super quick. (Now, no more standing in the heat/cold!) So it's okay. I'm confused about one aspect of VaporGod's liquid - you can increase the ratio of water, I guess to make more vapor? How would that affect flavor? Throat hit? I'm not sure throat hit is as important to me as vapor. Also, the flavor is VERY light on my current carts - almost more like if you inhaled through your mouth close to an air freshener. I guess I'm not expecting "sucking on a lollipop" flavor, but it seems so faint, compared to cigarettes for sure.

Okay, again, I appreciate the feedback and will continue to post questions and read your responses here.

Bloog is one of the most highly rated e cig that looks like a real cig. I only use what others refer to as "inferior starter kits" and I have been doing that for 3 1/2 years. No mods for me. Anyway, I just ordered this new kit from Bloog, https://bloogplanet.com/aurora-deluxe-starter-kit-maxx-fusion.html and got 30% off with DAD2012 coupon code. That made my order, including an extra pack of cartomizers total just $53 including shipping. For that price, you get an extra kit, 10 cartomizers, a really excellent e cig, and might just be cheaper than making a drive to pick up what may be overpriced e liquid and cartridges. Another excellent value is the Elite at Electronic Cigarettes from Cigeasy - Home of the Easy E-Cigarette It is the closest I get to a mod, and it is an excellent model.

Yes, any 808 cartomizer will work. I'd stay around the 2.5-3 ohm rating. Lower resistance cartomizers will drain the battery too fast. The good news is that these are very common ratings for cartomizers.

I checked their site for affilitates around Rockford
Locate Us
There's River Tobacco and Smokes and More in Rockford, and Jay's Liquor in Ottowa. I'd give them a call and see what they stock.

Components of E Juice
Flavor- usually 10%
PG- enhances flavor, lung hit and TH/ throat hit- water like
Vg= vapor and can mute flavor- very thick
Nicotine- TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine- prolly the most important in regards to TH and lung hit.
Standard ratios are 80/ 20 or 70/ 30 PG/ VG. I use 60/ 40 PG/ VG.
The bonus in filling your own cartos are price, selection of flavors and the choice of PG/ VG ratio.
Good Luck.

Jay's is closest to us, but still an hour away. I called around to the local shops, and all they have are carts for their specific in-house brand, no liquid in a bottle, and only tobacco and menthol flavor. I had been thinking of getting some Blu disposables from Walgreens, but they appear to be crazy expensive (at least online). Obviously not as crazy expensive as analogs, but my brain does math through a smoke-haze, I think.

So, I may need to wait and order online - I'm thinking I'll just get some blank KR808 cartomizers and a thing of juice. I think vanilla is a flavor I could commit to until I could afford to shake things up. Any particular vanilla's you guys can recommend? I may just go through Tececig's website this go-round. Hopefully they ship quick.

When you order your blank cartomizers you may want to go with ones that are 2.5 ohm.
They will give you a little more oomph than the 3.0 ohm cartomizers that come with the Tececig.
The only downside is that they will drain the battery a little faster, but they are fine to use with the Tececig battery.

If you're looking for fast shipping Vapor4Life a highly regarded vendor is located in the Sky Harbor Business Park in Northbrook, Illinois at 4100 Commercial Ave. The Lounge is open Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. They are also cheaper.
Good Luck.
