Reminds me of the time someone informed me that my recent skydiving excursion was not "real" because I was only 3500 feet above the earth when I stepped out of a plane.:?: I was dumbfounded. The person had never even been in a plane much less jumped out.

Go figure.
3500 feet? That's not a skydive, it's a hop-n-pop.... and it only counts if you walked away from the landing....

Funny read, RB...

I'm going to approach this from a different perspective - if I may.

Like any enthusiast pass time - particularly one with a decided technical bent - there are those who know, and those who "think" they know. I suspect the goal of your cousin is to demonstrate to you how clever she is... sharing the total extent of her limited "knowledge".

In other words, she respects you... perhaps even looks up to you as a life-model, and seeks your approval, appreciation and validation of her vaping credentials.

I might offer a few remedies that would silence her... but all that come quick to mind, have a somewhat vindictive air to them, and might not be appropriate, if my impression of her actions are accurate. ;-)

Cheers!

I used to get this with PCs, a lot, back in the 90's; all of a sudden, everyone had one on their desk and ran Windows 3, and had so much 'advice' for me... I'd just ask them what memory manager they were using, and if they loaded it in their config.sys? They'd shut up for a minute and just look at me, like, "What??" No idea what I was talking about -- some tech at the store set it up for them. Much like nowadays with B&Ms that sell mechs and RDAs to unsuspecting newbies and even build their coils for them. :D

I have to agree here ^^

She's like any other beginner, they know one way and it's the right way! Think oil off a duck's back. When she's adamant about something like sub ohming mention how much longer other solutions have been available and that the controversy over whether high power vaping might produce more formaldehyde. Give her some perspective on why other ways might be right for other people.

I have found people like this are more often than not insecure underneath it all. It makes them feel important to look like they know more than others.

Just smile and say.... Nice gear, glad you're happy with it. Then happily vape on and don't bother to argue. Just be secure in what you do as long as you are happy with it. :)

OH GOD - you have an "Expert" on your hands. I have a cousin very similar to this and while she doesn't vape, she is your go-to person for any and all unsolicited advice because She. Knows. EVERYTHING. Godspeed, my friend.

I have a friend like that. The older we've gotten, the more insufferable she's become. She doesn't smoke or vape, but she knows more about it than I do ;). As is true about everything :D. Lately, I just don't often feel like interacting with her anymore.

Ok, so we all know I'm far from a vape guru, obviously. Recently I was talking to my cousin, who's new to vaping (like January 1st new), I thought we were going to discuss our favorite equipment, juices, etc. Then she starts giving me unsolicited advice, which continues even after I tell her I've been at this for a year and a half now.
"You're using too high Nic. I vape 3mg only." - Well cuz, that's great for you. But I started with 24mg and I don't have a good enough battery to handle high performance dripping. So 10mg in my tanks is NOT "too much", it's where I'm comfortable right now. There's a big difference between subohming and using tanks+egos.
"Make sure you carry an extra battery when you're dripping." - I only drip when I'm at home, and I always carry an extra battery anyway. Anyone knows that you have backups for your backups if at all possible.
"Talk to me when you have a box mod." - Uhh, what?! I get that mods are higher powered. Really, I do. But on a limited income and supplying for two people, upgrades aren't necessary right now. My egos and tanks satisfy my needs and keep me off the stinkies. Who the hell are you to say that I'm not "really vaping" because I don't do it like you do??
Has anyone else run into this type of elitism among new vapers? How do you handle it respectfully (rather than telling them they're being jackasses)?

How do you handle it? Needs a Miss Manners dope slap. You can leave out the Miss Manners part. When lack of respect is that one sided... it's about the only thing that works. You already tried nice - that ain't workin'.

I'm a noob to vaping and I know better than to give other people advice. Instead I give myself advice. Things like this:

'Self, you need one of those iStick 30w's..' and I'm like 'Yes I believe I do, thank you for the advice.'
'Self, you kinda like this MBV juice, so you will continue to get it.' 'Yes, I believe I will.'

I also had to give myself advice to stop buying things for the month. Such a downer.

Perhaps her giving advice gives her some self worth.

I take on board what I judge to be good advice. I pay no mind to other peoples vaping judgements on myself or others.

On this forum I've only come across very helpful people , most are not eh your not a real vaper with that set up but rather give the pros/cons on set ups they have and help if you need it on what you have.
