There's a huge learning curve when you start out, and then you find what works for you. I've been vaping for the past month.. Since Jan 10th, and the 9th I knew absolutely nothing about it. I'm at the point now where it's not a money pit, it's enjoyable, and it works. Could i do things differently? Sure.. I'm not about to tell someone else how they should enjoy it though that's just snotty and irrational.

Even though I have been vaping since sept (I don't really count the mix of analogs and cigilikes from july to that moment lol) I still consider myself a newbie when it comes to vaping. I know a lot more then I used to. But I still have a lot to learn. I do offer advice when I can to people. But I won't pretend to know something I don't know. I also don't act like your cuz. lol. What is funny is my youngest sister who doesn't vape or anything, her and her husband thought I was using too much nic just because her friend who vapes uses a lot less. Well her friend wasn't as heavy of a smoker as I was and she smoked lights. So yeah go figure of course it is easier for her to get off nic. Also she is trying to get off nic completely. I am not. lol. Needless to say my sis and her husband no longer mention it to me anymore. Now her friend and her boyfriend are the ones I got my Stingray (which i haven't used yet) from. Neither try to tell me how to vape either. Me and her bf actually got to talking about vape stuff while they were here. Even though he has vaped a lot longer then me he didn't seem like he looked down me which was nice. Though when he let me try his high wattage box mod on his sub-ohm tank he did comment on my hit i took as a newbie hit. lol. To be fair i had moved my own drip tank from my aerotank mini over to it since he didn't want me to use his. So my drip tip got hot very fast and that is why I had to end of my hit sooner. lol.

I'd have to say in this instance that you just simply follow with the following "The best mod and set up is the one that keeps me off the Tobacco Cigs, and obviously my way is working just fine for me, but thank you for your input should I need further assistance I'll ask down the road"

That is a polite way to tell her to bugger off without being insulting or putting someone off too badly. I've noticed the young bucks recently get themselves a mechanical mod and dripper and think that its some sort of scepter that turns them in to a god of vaping. I wouldn't be surprised to see your cousin run with the high powered sub ohm crowd, I hate to say it in that arena the rules are different because of the issues of venting batteries and destroying mods which is common place really. One day these folks will take the place of the old dogs of vaping only to offer advice to the new folks, I'm really not looking forward to it in truth.

Lol DancingHeretik. If I could convey that over text messages without sounding like a total d-bag, that's probably pretty close to my reaction.

Text messages? Not face to face? That's even easier. Just ignore her messages. Or, if it's part of a larger conversation, ignore those parts of the conversation. Pretend that part didn't happen, and just carry on with the conversation as if it hadn't.

Then, if she becomes irate, do what I do whenever my brother becomes angry and irritating. Hang up (dropped call? Can you hear me now?)

I'm not talking about being particularly rude or mean. But, I don't deal with confrontation well. I choose to simply take myself out of the line of fire and allow a person to shoot into the air harmlessly.

Well, isn't everyone a legend in their own mind? Human nature is what it is, and it's silly to expect that to change anytime soon.

The way I look at it, if they're not smoking, they're doing it right .... as long as they're safe.
AND, trust me on this, it's just as common to see experienced vapors do stupid things as it is to see noobs do stupid things.

I usually respond a little differently...when this happens to me, I take their new device, look at it, compliment it if appropriate, and even ask some detailed questions about why they like it and what makes it different. I try to make sure that I don't come off as an experienced veteran so set in my ways I'm not open to change. But that's me. If you ARE an experienced veteran not open to change, then so be it. The vamping community is vast, with a lot of different personalities and passions that don't always match mine. Your cousin would probably be the same way regardless of product, be it a new smart phone or tablet device. I certainly don't want my experience to be considered arrogance and inadvertently alienate a new vapor fan from the fold.

Has she been introduced to this forum? That's a sure fire way to find out we're not quite as smart as we might think we are.

Yep. 1.2 ohms @ 19 watts is a beautiful thing.

Well hell, 1.5Ω at 9.5w in my new Magma is a beautiful thing -- great vape, and this gunky juice doesn't cause a whole kayfun tankful to be wasted when it turns dark and smelly! :D The most I waste in this is maybe a few drops.

Those that sub-ohm who insist it's the "only way" to vape... I give 'em this:

Also... I think there's a strong tendency to want to show off that one now "belongs to the club" and can spout the jargon with ease. It's normal with PCs *or* e-cigs, there is SO MUCH jargon with either... When you can blather on in acronyms as if you actually know what they mean, it makes you feel like one of the "initiated". :D

Has anyone else run into this type of elitism among new vapers? How do you handle it respectfully (rather than telling them they're being jackasses)?

New Vapers/ Old Vapers/ elitist Vapers/ Know it all Vapers

There is a whole list of they.

Simple enough - Whatever works for YOU and no other opinion matters.
Recommendations are always welcome, but people need to know when to shut up and let it go.

I have/use RDA's/ RTA/s and a Slew of other devices from Carto's all the way up on Mechanical mods as well as Regulated devices. They ALL have their place and purpose.:)

If it's one thing about the vaping community I have noticed, is that the vast majority of vapers think they are experts, regardless of whether they have been vaping for 5 days, 5 years, or somewhere in between.

It is getting worse and worse. I stay clear of ALL brick and mortar shops now. 5 out of 5 shops here are FILLED with hipsters with that flat brimmed hats and hoodies, all dripping on their fasttech box mods or $300 mods.....at 0.025 ohms, and some random e-liquid no one has ever heard of, but MUST be the BEST because it comes in a glass bottle with aglass dripper. They all pretend like they are vapology experts...recent graduates from an Ivy League school with a degree in Vaping.

I agree, but in my experience, it is not just the "hipsters"....it is many vapers in general, across the board.

    ^^^^^Agreed^^^^^

I thnik we all get a little stoked when we get vape mail and some of us want to shout it from the mountain top when we find it so much better than what we used to have/do. It's just normal behaviour for most vapers I think. On the forums...isn't that sorta the reason we all come here? To get feedback from folks that have used the latest and greatest before we drop down our hard earned cash? I know I do and am grateful for it.

It's just the way that some deliver the message that can be a little offensive. Cheers.

I agree with dancin, if she's doing a lot of this in texts, ignore them. the great part is.....she's vaping instead of smoking. (if she was a smoker to begin with). Sounds like she's pretty insecure like others have said. I made some mistakes early on (and occasionally still do) trying to be helpful and didn't know what I didn't know, but I always said as much too. totally agree with andria, that it sounds like she wants to belong to feel validated.

Some folks drive a bmw, some folks drive chevy, guess what, they both get ya where ya need to go, but the chevy driver will have some $$ to do sumpthin once he gets where he's goin! Maybe just tell her, hey we're different. You like pizza, I don't, you vape xxx I vape xxx leave me alone, lemme do what works for me. good luck!

In here yes, but that can even get a little rowdy to down right obnoxious. Out there, Leave me alone and let me enjoy my Vape. :vapor:
