I'm pretty much a newbie myself. You'd probably do better asking someone else. I have a smok procolor and al85, a pegasus, an aspire skystar and a hcigar aurora squonk that I use as a regular mod cause I can't figure out how to squonk lol. I have a bunch of different attys, Smoks, uwell, kanger tech, goon rda, dead rabbit and ijoy combo rda and a few rtas. I think I'm addicted to attys! Watch out or you'll catch the bug too! Lol

Lol! Maybe if I immerse myself in all things vape it will help! Hey whatever works!

Hi @Shannon Vapes , what helped me the most in the beginning to transition was whole tobacco alkaloid juice (WTA) Lots of threads on it about. You could look into maybe raising your nic first to 9 m.g. (or even 12, but be wary of overload in a sub0hm setup). WTA can be found several places, Aroma is the gold standard (but, it's pricy) other decent manufacturers include Umbavapes and Ohm's vapes. I bought the wholesale and just squirted (decreasing amounts) into my tank, but you can also buy WTA eliquid premade although I just read I think that you are staring to DIY. You can DIY with WTA. I'd say I like Ohm's quite well for the price (you have to hit the right sale though) and everyone's different, I am fine with Ohms and Umbavapes and they are less expensive, albeit it's possible that they are ALSO less potent. It's hard for me to compare, because I used Aroma during the worst of my quitting "blues."

You certainly don't HAVE to I'm just sharing what worked well for me. I found at the start just nic was not enough (and I still DETOXED, it's not like WTA took away all DETOX symptoms, it for sure didn't. I was still detoxing from my 3ppd habit). You can try tapering, you can try lots of stuff. The advantages for me with WTA it helped me get some of those MAOI alkaloids that are found in tobacco without the "harm" (my understand is it's fairly safe, it's combustion that makes tobacco dangerous, not so much the alkaloids). And being here for SURE helped my motivation, accountability and it helped keep me occupied AS I detoxed from cigarettes. Etc.

Best of luck, and I hope you find a strategy that works. I dual. used for YEARS before returning to smoking and only a "pneumonia for 18 months plus approaching COPD dx scared me into submission. I just got a year smoke free, then smoked. Gah. But, I'm done beating myself up for it, I just got back on the horse. The more you vape (and the more you try to vape) the more likely you are to become a full vaper (one British study I wish I'd kept a link to.)

So mainly keep at it, and figure out a strategy that is right for YOU. But, I believe you can do it!

Welcome :)

Well I have to say the mod at least "feels" like a better delivery of nicotine to the lungs. 6mg of nic on a mod does a better job than 24 on a pen. When i was on a pen style, I still felt like reaching for a ciggs, and sure enough, I did. Especially when out for a drink and in the mornings. But when I moved to mod, after a week just didn't feel like lighting one up.

Currently I am on a Smoant Cylon and Vaporesso Revenger X for my mods with Vandy Vape Kylin RTA. But I guess if you are starting off a good sub ohm tank would be a nice choice. If you are still on ciggs, a good MTL tank would really help. Coz MTL is more like doing a cigg than DTL. The revenger X does come with the NRG tank. Which is decent, but there are better sub ohm tanks out there.

Wow what an amazing journey you’ve been on to stop smoking. It’s inspirational to me and others too I’m sure. Even if you fell off the wagon. That happened to me too. I make myself feel better by reminding myself I kicked it once so I know I can do it again. I’m so glad you’re being firm and keeping at it!

I’ll check out WTA and do some reading on it. Thank you!

Hi Shannon - I was one of those people who went straight from smoking to vaping but I had to -- it is my personality - all or nothing. I was a very heavy smoker.

There is nothing wrong with dual using because it means that you are smoking fewer cigarettes and it is getting you closer to your goal of eventually no analogs.

Although I made the jump all at once -- it's been 7 years now -- maybe some of my tips will help you.

For me, one of the really important items was to eliminate temptation. so...

-- Make sure you have enough juice so that you do not run out because if you run out it is just too easy to go buy some analogs
-- Perhaps up your nicotine level. I am at 3 now and have been vaping for 7 years. 6 just might not be enough to satisfy. Since you have some juices you really like and you are making your own, you can even make a batch at maybe 12 or even higher and mix it with what you have to try different levels and see what works based on how you feel. When I first started vaping I was using very high nicotine and I know that is what helped satisfy me.

As an example, I smoked Marlboros red kings or gold 100s and smoked a lot. If my store was out of cigs and I bought lights it was pointless because I could smoke triple the amount and was not satisfied

Listen to your body and try different things and keep some notes on your phone or a spreadsheet. Maybe one day try the 12mg in place of your regular cig and note how you feel. You might be very pleasantly surprised that the 12 hits great and that you do not want to reach for an analog. Or, you may feel better but think you need even higher nic and you can try 15.

Also make sure you have enough supplies, depending on what you are using, batteries, coils etc. That goes along with temptation. I started out with ego sticks and I had a number of them because the batteries would die and I had another. Same for removable batteries --which is easier because you just swap it out.

And, of course, continue to seek support. With your friend not as readily available - I think you will find a lot of folks that will be happy to offer support and help you along the way.

Good luck!

@Shannon Vapes - You don't have to use a much higher nic mg to transition from smoking to vaping. I smoked 1 - 1/2 PAD for 42+ years...so I was a longtime smoker who'd tried many times to quit. All my friends and relatives thought I'd definitely always be a smoker for the rest of my life. But...in just shy of 2 months, while I vaped a lot, I also was slowly tapering off on the number of smokes per day that I could have each week, until I had my last one. I've never wanted one, nor had 1 since then, and that was more than 4 years ago.

Even though I smoked all those years, while transitioning to vaping I vaped 2 different eliquids that were my favorites, at only 6mg, for most of the day. I also had 2 others though, at 11mg...to vape as a substitute for my first smoke in the AM and my smoke after lunch and dinner. I knew those 2 times were going to be hard ones for me to give up, so I decided to use a little higher nic mg eliquid at just those times in the first month. It worked like a charm!

By the time I'd gotten down to 2 smokes per day for a week, and then 1 smoke per day for my last week...I was totally enjoying vaping more than I was enjoying those final ciggies. Also, during the entire transition time...there was absolutely no jitteryness, no cravings, etc.

So, everyone has to find out what works best to help them transition. There is no magic method, nor time-table to do it, nor eliquid to use, or nic mg, or vaping set-up/gear, etc. Try different eliquids, or nic mg, or gear, etc., until you find the combination that allows you to enjoy vaping...more than smoking. Once you nail that, you're on your way to being smoke free!

Hi, Shannon. As you can tell, there is no one answer. It is easier if we know how much juice you are using in a day. If you are puffing away at it constantly, and getting a big vapor cloud, go slowly on raising nicotine. If you take occasional puffs, with time in between, you may need a little bigger step up to satisfy. Baby Beast can supply a lot of vapor in a hurry.
I use MTL tanks, now, and an increase in wattage produces more vapor, and can give me more nic than I want, sometimes.

Thank you so much for this advice. It’s very encouraging. I so understand what you’re talking about with the first morning cig and the after cigs. The first in the morning is the one that leads to at least 3 more. Maybe if I have that one and then switch to a higher nic vape for the rest of the morning it would help.

This has my creative juices flowing! Thanks so much!

Shannon

I think you hit the nail on the head with me with option two. I’m the occasional puff with time in between. Following yours and some folks advice, I just bought a more hardcore setup with mesh coils. We’ll see how that goes.

Thank you!

Yes I think what you’re working with must make a big difference. I just bought a new sub ohm tank... a horizontech falcon with mesh coils. Hoping it will make a difference. Showing my dumbs here... but whats an mtl?

MTL is mouth-to-lung, meaning you draw vapor into your mouth, before inhaling it, as opposed to DL direct-to-lung. Generally MTL vapers like a tight draw(less airflow) compared to DL users.
Generally, more vapor goes with greater airflow, and 'sub-ohm' tanks are set up for maximum airflow, to produce lots of vapor.
Generally, MTL provides a tighter draw which approximates more closely the 'draw' required with a cigarette.

I think MTL/DTL question is already answered. Good to see you getting started. I hope you soon join coil building side of things. There are no cookies on this side, but its a nice hobby to pick up! That is the real fun part to vaping. Not to mention the cost saving and the flavor bomb. Sub ohm tank coils, just dont seem to last, and with about 3-4 of them costing $10-$15, it does add up. With building your own coils, $30 would last you a year or more and definitely produce better flavor than any sub ohm tanks out there.
