I'm a little confused. I see three details; in the pic at left, a blue dome facing the camera and a pink convex protrusion to the right. In the pic at right, I see a round dot near the base which I'm guessing is a vent. Could you please tell us which detail is what? Is the LED integral to the switch cover? Can it be bypassed (turned off so as not to call attention)?

BTW, from an earlier post: I've specified your switch vendor, C&K, decades ago. They were a quality house. I'm sure they still are.

I hope this helps , this is NOT you normal PV , we have added voltage control to it , it allows you to adjust the voltage to the atty . ( just wanted to make sure it was clear )

1. The blue thing you see is the adjustment potentiometer ( use a small screwdriver ) this controls the voltage to the atty. 3.5v - 6volts.

2. the Pink thing is an LED ( red in this pic , they will be green for activated and red for Low battery ind. )

3. the round dot in the right pix is 1 of 3 vent holes in the tube for battery venting .another safety feature.

The LED at this time can not be disabled ( may happen in the future ? ) It's location makes it VERY easy to cover with a finger as you hold the unit. It is built into the body.

This PV has several safety features to it
a. Over current
b. reverse battery protection
c. over temp of the IC ( excess current draw causes a reduction in current until shutdown )
d. Vent holes
e. short circuit protection ( wont over draw current from the batteries !! meaning they are less likely to vent ) protected batteries are optional in this unit .
f. Low battery indicator ( below 6volts combined voltage )

I hope this helps ! :D

If voltage control were too easy, users would inadvertently change the setting. This could over heat and blow out a low impedance atomizer or create other unpleasant surprises.

That seems very annoying to have to use a screwdriver each time you want to adjust
And inadvertently switch volts? really? only if the switch was free flowing

Take the nuck Fistpack it has 4 settings from 4-5 volts that you switch the button too the next spot by clicking/pushing it into the next slot

Either way still looks great good job!

Amajn,

I too questioned the screwdriver requirement. While adjustable voltage is awesome, it needs to be user friendly. IMHO, predetermined "steps" would make it easier for most. Also, "on the fly" adjustment is important if you want to compensate for battery run-down (4.2 fully charged down to 3.7 nominal down to ???). Also there's the issue of switching attys/cartos or a change of users needs.

As a simple "work-around" isn't there storage space inside the unit? Maybe a small screwdriver could be stored inside so at least you'd always have one with you (though you'd still have to use it).

(I still think a recessed 4 or 6 position slide switch would be more than enough for most people's needs)

Thats also a great thought MM i also wanted to ask about... When the voltage runs low you will need to be able to adjust and if you forgot, lost or did not have the Screwdriver then you would be Screwed(river) lol

I think best bet would be a compartment or location on the device to place it... Looks like you would only need a small eye glass repair type one

But i think if it was to be more user friendly for "US" paying for it the consumer
would benefit more from a 4 or 6 recessed switch and from the ones i have seen they can be very small

Bottom line Buzz you are driving in the right direction........but the alignment is off a little! or maybe he has already thought of this himself as it is in BETA mode

Lol I told him the same thing months ago. He insisted this was the only way to do it. I was really interested in one of these, but not at the expense of carrying a screwdriver around. I believe his answer to me was find your sweet spot and leave it there. Which is fine unless your out and your last 510 blows. You have a 801 but the same voltage just doesn't do it. Your stuck.

Maybe his next one will incorporate this when his first one fails. He has to understand a lot of women buy these mods to. I doubt many of them want to start carrying a screwdriver. I know I won't.

On-the-fly adjustment for battery run down doesn't actually make sense in this specific application.

It uses a variable voltage regulator. You set the voltage and the unit will deliver that voltage... period. It will continue to deliver that voltage until the batteries run down and are unable to maintain the minimum necessary input voltage to the regulator. Once that happens, the output will either sag, or cut off completely (depending on the regulator/circuit design). No adjusting of the regulator is going to compensate for that.

Scott that's correct, but there are other times you might need to change the voltage. My above example, maybe even a sore throat. There will be unforeseen times that you will cuss mightily for not bringing your screwdriver.

Personally I'm not too concerned. For professional reasons I happen to have one of these on my keychain anyway:

But I appreciate the fact that I'm just a wee bit bizarre....

Nice, I love the pink ;) Maybe this would be a much better idea if he included a key chain screwdriver with each one.

I dunno.. they cost a whopping $0.49. That could throw the total retail price over the pain threshold!!

Actually... my plastic screwdriver is just a little bit smaller and is orange. If I carried a pink one my young daughter might think that her daddy is a bit "peachy" (her term for Nathan Lane in "The Bird Cage").

I don’t think Buzz should sell these to anyone who DOES NOT have a screwdriver in his pocket all the time and give a discount to people like me who keep theirs in a pocket protector. Some technology shouldn’t be allowed to everybody.

Where the hell did you get those Scott ?? DUHHH link , gotta have me some . They are on order now !

I have a design that is a knob that is exposed on the side , I shied away from this because of breakage and unintended changing of the voltage.
But it can be added as an extra I'm sure , this needs to be seen ? , am waiting for feedback from the BETA testers so I have an idea of what direction to take. !

BTW Scott has it correct , this is a regulated device the voltage is CONSTANT until the batteries Die. the low voltage indicator will light up when they get low as well.
