I just got some Nextel ceramic wick for my Odysseus, so I tried it in my Vivi Nova, and its fantastic. It wicks soooo much better, no need to tip and swish nearly as much. It tastes better than cotton and easier to work with than standard silica, not nearly as flaky and firm , so easy to wrap. It wicks so much better than standard silica and much better than cotton and you can dry burn it and extend the life. No dry hits even chain vaping with real long draws.

the Ody and the vivi are the best vapes IMO after my standard favs being cartos in a tank.

I know that Vivi can be sort of fiddly and you cant lay them on their sides. Build can be a pain because of the size of the head. But even with its faults its great.

Now if you want to take a great BIG step up I cant say enough about the Odysseus. Its built for lifetime use. You can put it upside down, lay it on its side even with the juice flow open. Its also a breeze to set up, No dry hits what so ever.

they had some at discount vapers, but its not listed now.

I hope that helps, the 3m site is less than what I payed

Thanks for that link. Do you know which one it is? 3M seems to make 2 versions (the difference seems to be that one is rated for a higher temp than the other)

My leaning would be to go with the higher-temp version, just because I am a firm believer in over-engineering...

I have ordered some free samples of both type of this material, in 1/8" diameter. It will be interesting to see how it works in my Vivi Nova...

Well, I should have known better that to tell 3M the truth about what I was planning to use this wick for. They rejected my request for free samples. .......s...

Here is the text of the email they sent me:

Thank you for your interest in 3M products. The material you have requested is intended for industrial applications only. In addition, 3M does not recommend this material for food, cosmetic, medical, or pharmaceutical use. Based on our review of the application description that was included with your sample request, we must decline to provide you with the requested sample because your proposed application is not an industrial application.

Regards,

3M Advanced Materials Division

Luckily for me, my 9-5 job requires that I work with machines that use high-temp heating elements, so I'm going to ask them for free samples again, for samples to use in THAT application... ;-)

I got my sample piece today, and boy, is that 1/8 inch Nextel THICK. I may use it in my Vivi Nova, or perhaps in my Phoenix. Not sure which. I nee to get some res and non-res wire before I can attempt to build the coil anyway. But it does look promising.

I'm thinking about ordering a 25ft spool of the smaller 1/16" stuff from Omega later this month. It's more wick than I'd need for the rest of my life, but I'm sure I can unload some of the surplus here in the classies, or at some of the local Vape Meets...

It is made from alumina-boria-silica fibers......... Alumina is aluminum oxide, no idea what boria is - and still has silica. So this is better than regular silica wicks because it doesnt break down into those tiny shards one could possibly inhale?

Actually, those fibers are fused into a ceramic. Supposedly, that stabilizes the silica, and makes the fiber strands much stronger, and they don't break down, flake off or decompose like plain silica fiber. That's sort of the whole point of Nextel--it is a ceramic composite material, and is VERY strong and stable...

Should you still have some surplus 1/16 braided sleeve I would be happy to buy a few feet from you. I tried it at the local (German) distributor, but they are not very cooperative, so it seems my only remaining option is to get it from the US from private sellers.
