The snippet below is from my vapin' page. (Southern Maryland Computerguy available from my profile too) I am not a doctor or chemist nor have I ever been one on TV, and the 30/16.5 are not provable by me. I have neither the money or the expertise to do so.
    Code:
    30 mg nicotine a pack @ 3 to 6 packs/week 90 - 180
    16.56 mg nicotine per ml @ 5 to 10 ml/week 82.8 - 165.6

The numbers above on the left are guesstimations..
    I went with 1.5mg (cigarettes) and 69% of 24mg/ml (e-liquid)..
Here are some of the links I used to come up with those numbers. They're also on the vapin' page.
Nicotine content of a tobacco cigarette
    Nicotine levels in electronic cigarettes
I spent many nights reading web pages and .pdf's but those two links (also on my page) have the numbers that came up (except the 69% ;) I was going with 70% but..) the most and I ended up going with.

There is also this calculator made by a member here
    E-Liquid Nicotine Consumption/Absorption Calculator

I started with 24mg for quite some time, used to smoke 20-30 "reds" (1mg /cigg)
And that was just enough for me, i had a hard time going to 18mg at first but got used to it. And from there i went into 12mg once i started with RDAs.
And i'm still there today due when i went down to 6/3mgs i had a 2 week relapse due irl issues. So for me 12mg is still the sweet spot.

BUT atm i'm vaping my favorite juice which is 24mg (leftover since old times) And i can still vape it fine in my kayfun at 1 ohm however i need lesser drags compared to the 12mgs.

I don't think its rly possible to compare cigg vs ecigg, just due the efficency of delivery. The ciggs are made to get us that "HIT" immedietly which E-cigg doesn't. And we absorb about 30-40% of that nicotine at maximum (from vaping)

But it does also depend on what delivery device + tank being used.
When i vaped 24mg / at all times i only had a vision spinner mtp2 to use.
These days we've full 50+++ wattage mods with subohm. If you're using such a device a 12mg or even 6mg would be sufficent.

All in all i'm happy with my 12mg in rdas, can chain without any issues. However my issue is to go down to 6 without having to chain vape(x100) a ton.

Anyway i might have missinterpret this post abit, but i feelt like sharing anyway. :)

Well thanks for sharing. Last night I reduced the 69% of 24 to 67%. Maybe that is still too high.. I have two clearos, both are BDC, one's 2.1 ohm and the other is 1.5 ohm. The three different types of batteries I have are 1) plain eGo type, the voltage and wattage they put out I don't know, 2) an eGo VV that I can use either tank on, usually set to put out 4 volts, 3) a 134 mini (not a battery per say I know) that I also can use either tank on and it's usually set to 8.5 watts, although now it's set to 9.5 watts.

    16.56 mg nicotine per ml @ 5 to 10 ml/week 82.8 - 165.6

Actually, there's a real easy computation which I use for introducing newbies to vaping. . MG in cig if 0.8, (Marlboro Medium King size) multiply that by 20 if you smoke a pack a day. Gives you 16mg. Gets you very close to what you should start to vape with.
1-1/2 packs a day, Marlboro Mediums - 30 cigs. 30 x 0.8 = 24. Start vaping at 24mg and go down from there if too strong.

An ultra lite cig has about 0.5 mg nic. A pack a day 0.5 x 20 = 10 A new vaper who was smoking ultralites will be best served by using 10mg eliquid. (anything higher is likely to make an ultra lite smoker dizzy, nauseous, not at ease, etc.)

I know because when I joined was always told "start with 24 or 18". WRONG. :w00t:

I smoked a pack a day, but they were not full flavor cigs. I was sick at first, then jumpy and anxious....the whole first week.........and it wasn't withdrawal.
As soon as I went to 12mg nic I felt great.

I started with 24mg for quite some time, used to smoke 20-30 "reds" (1mg /cigg)

That would about fit into the way I calculate, 25 cigs a day of 1.0 mg = 25. So 24mg eliquid would have been what I would have started you on. ;) 1.0mg cigs are pretty strong~

I got confused with all the math here so not to belabor but when a juice is 18mg nic, that is 18mg per ml. So if I vape 5 ml per day that is 630 mg per week. How can both a 15ml or 30ml bottle that say 18% nic both have the same amount? It is per ml. I am therefore vaping way more nic than when I was smoking but I feel much healthier. Am I getting this wrong? Who vapes only 5-10ml per week, you are very conservative my friend, good for you.

Size of bottle doesn't matter; it is per ml.

I gave up trying to figure it all out. I like 2.4% during the day and 3.6% at night. I don't measure how much I vape, as I have 6 tanks in rotation/day, but maybe 5 ml-10ml...

I have no idea if I am getting more or less nicotine than I did when I smoked...

I don't measure it exactly, but I have a 1.8 ml tank and a 3 ml one. I refill them when they're about 2/3 empty.

    I think I do, but I'm probably wrong. I usually am..

If anybody is interested, I have changed the numbers on the vaperage part of the vapin' page I made. I started that part of my page after a discussion with a friend of mine (who still smokes). Her side was "what's the difference? they both have nicotine."
    SoMDcomputerguy - Vape

FWIW, the total numbers of both are very, very close. Except the per pack and per ml numbers. When I discover an accurate nicotine delivery number for the cigarettes, I'll most probably edit the page again to include total and delivery numbers for both.

1ml of my 3mg nic juice is equal to 2.5 of my cigs. I think I am consuming way more nic then when I was smoking but, BUT nic is not so bad for me since I am healthy. All the other stuff that goes with burning plants (tobacco) and inhaling to my toes is what would have killed me guaranteed. Now I smell like bubblegum and just hiked 10 miles like I was 20 years old.

It's not easy to compare vaping nic to cigarette nic. But I used to smoke ulta-lights (which are now called "orange" by law). I looked on the back of the pack once and it said 0.5mg of nic per cigarette. That's 10mg per pack. I smoked 2 PAD, which would be about 20mg of nic per day.

I now vape 3mg liquid, but go through about 10-15mL per day. So, it looks like I am getting more nic now (even though I only vape 3mg) than I did when I smoked. Of course, I don't know how much of that nic from vaping actually gets absorbed into the bloodstream. I am pretty sure the ".5mg per cigarette" figure is the absorption rate. The actual amount of nic in the raw cigarette is much higher.

The only way to know would involve science, ala testing the nicotine in ones' system after smoking a cigarette, after vaping a measured amount and compare the numbers. Given everyone has different absorption rates, the study would have to involve a number of people over time- in order to establish a baseline and have sufficient time between sessions of smoking and vaping. Until such a study, it's all just guessing...
