So yeah, I've done a bit of research into nicotine hicups, or as I like to call them Nic-ups. But the thing is, everyone is saying that these nic-ups are to do with nicotine OD early presymptoms or too much nicotine intake. Thing is I get these sometimes on my first drag on my vape, most of the times I'm fine, but just randomly I get these I'm not sure why. I really don't think it's too much nicotine as it's normally after the first drag.

its the nic.... dont remember exactly the mechanism involved, but the nic hits the surface nerves of the throat and causes the involuntary reaction.... nic strength has a bit to do with it but even small doses can trigger it..... I find I get them when I taste different bottles of juice by putting a drop on my finger and licking it...

Well two problems there... First is it has happened on a few of my flavours so I don't think its that, second of all I'm allergic to peanuts :)

A teaspoon of honey is also a sure-fire cure -- if I can't get rid of hiccups by holding my breath (which usually works), then honey works everytime.

Ha ha, I never got hiccups before I vaped, now I get them about once a fortnight.

They only last a couple of minutes so I don't worry about them.

I'm vaping unflavoured so it's not the flavourings, I thought it could be the VG, but I really don't know.

Funny to hear this is 'a thing'. Like the term nic-ups :)

what causes hiccups? ... I honestly have not had them even once in over 40 years.

I first noticed it about 30 years ago ... haven't experienced them since I was a kid.

I've never experienced heartburn either

Hiccups are convulsions of your diaphragm. Hiccups are involuntary, annoying and sometimes painful. They can be caused by drinking to fast, eating to fast and a few other things, not sure what causes them when it comes to vaping. As people have said they have vaped unflavoured juice I can almost confirm it is the nicotine, but why does it cause it, sometimes and not other times, happens to me mostly in the evening too so I don't think its a morning thing

I get them sometimes while vaping as well, and I think there is a fairly simple explanation for it. When I was scuba diving I would frequently get hiccups/belching after some dives from "gulping" air because of the difference between breathing normally and breathing off a regulator. If you're a lung inhaler the draw used to take a vape is very similar to the draw to take a breath off a scuba regulator which would stand to reason that it may induce the same symptoms. Just my :2c:.

The diaphragm convulsions of hiccups are actually often caused by an imbalance of oxygen/CO2 in the blood, too much oxygen, which is why holding your breath often helps cure them -- it allows the CO2 to build back up to a normal level. Breathing into a paper bag would have the same effect, such as using the paper-bag technique to fix hyperventilation.

As to why honey cures them, I couldn't say, though my ex, who seems to have discovered this technique, says it's something to do with the pH of honey; somehow it helps restore balance.

Happens to me in one specific flavor which also has a higher nic.
