I've always mixed up a big batch of unflavored nicotine laced base, usually 120 mL. Then you can put the flavorings you want to try a 3 mL bottle and add the base to fill.
Worst case you lose 3 mL of nic base and a few drops of flavorings, but I've yet to make any mix that I couldn't vape 3 mL of, even if I never make it again....

Nicotine definitely adds a flavor and produces harshness, so 0mg samples will likely not be representative of what it would truly taste like as long as you're above 3mg/mL. I mix my juice at 1.5mg/mL (just started at that strength) and can't taste a thing from the nicotine. My 3mg batches produced a very slight flavor, and the 6mg batches were definitely noticeable in the difference between the 0mg samples and the mixed juice.

Steeping will bring out flavors more, it really depends in the flavors you use though. Steeping does different things to different juices. Just don't worry about it, experimentation is what DIY is all about!

Alright. Good info. Decided to go ahead and add the nic to my tests. Started with 2/4/6/8 % FA Dark Vapure and TFA Black Honey Tobacco (not mixed, all single flavor). Have RY4, Dessert Ship and Maxx Blend waiting in the wings. Hope to find a nice tobacco base for a hint of clove. I'll worry about the clove and what not later. Gonna let things steep a week and go from there.
