Looking to start DIY and was curious if anyone approached mixing by starting with a given level of nicotine in a PG/VG solution and added the flavors to get a final percentage that is close to a target level of nicotine. In other words, if I currently vape 24 mg nicotine and premix a PG/VG mix of say 28 mg nicotine, do the flavorings for most mixes stay low enough to yield something close to the target, say within 3 mg over or under? This would assume that I would be starting out with somewhat uncomplicated mixes. Currently I tend to like mostly tobacco mixes, but would like to branch out and try some other things as well as some mixes that add some flavorings to the tobacco. I'm just looking to simplify the initial experimentation. That way I could save some time and effort by premixing the PG/VG Nicotine solution and once I find something I like, if necessary, I could go back and adjust the numbers to achieve a more exact nicotine level. Looking at some of the recipes it seems like the flavorings add such a small percentage to the total that it would lend itself to this.

if you were to use Hansen tobaccos you would be within that area you want to come down to sine very little is needed to make a tobacco juice that will be good download ejuice calculator would give you good idea with Hansen flavors I go with 1 drop per ml of flavoring for total juice made. this is for Hansen tobaccos only. you need to steep after flavoring and shake well. give it a few days to a week to start to change. read the DIY sub forums. but to answer your question yes. it can be done but getting to exact mg in strength will be iffy IMHO.

When I mix flavorings at 10% or more, I do consider the final nic strength. With 20mg base, adding 10% flavoring produces 18mg.

Lately I use more concentrated flavorings, aiming for 2% or less. I mix my base at the strength I want and don't worry about the tiny bit of dilution from flavoring. 20mg base and 2% flavoring produces 19.6mg strength, for example.

That's what I do. I keep a couple 120 ml bottles of pre-mixed base on hand, then just pour some into a smaller bottle and add flavorings. The nic level drops a little, but not enough for me to tell the difference.

For example, mixing 2.5% VZ concentrated flavors into 18mg base yields 17.55mg. I doubt I even mix it that close to start with. With 10% flavorings, the final product would be at 16.2mg, still close enough for me.

I just keep a 24mg 65pg 35vg unflavored mix around and add 10% to 20% flavoring. I try to target an 18mg 75pg 25vg final product after the flavorings made of 100% PG are added. I use this calculator and a 2.5ml eye dropper most of the time to fill 15ml bottles with all types of flavors. For big projects the pyrex beaker comes out, same calculator and here is the link.

"Likes" for everybody! Thanks all for the help. Great information. That certainly takes some of the trepidation out of starting DIY. Along these same lines, have you all purchased the nicotine level kits or made your own to test your nicotine levels? (I'm never sure if I should start a new thread when I have a follow up question. Any advice on this would also be appreciated as with DIY I feel that I'll have more questions than any other subject matter!)

Let me take away a little more trepidation. Here's a nice recommended reading list.

Read my blogs before getting started

E-Cigarette Forum - dannyv45 - Blogs

then read hoosier's blogs.

then read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.
