under this logic u'r car's bad because because it emits carbon monoxide and greenhouse gasses, u'r cell phone is bad because studies have linked the EM fields they create to brain cancer so they're bad, use aerosol spray of any kind ( deodorant, hair spray etc.?) all bad. MOST of today's pharmaceuticals because if u take much of them they'll kill you with side effects. yes nicotine is a drug - just like any pharaceutical - if used improperly it can kill you - but if you disagree take a whole bottle of tylenol or even aspirin at once and see if that's "safe". if you compare much of todays pharma w/ arsenic u'll find that mg for mg they're deadly too. or are there more apples you want to compare w/ oranges?

If used properly in small doses nicotine can kill you as well as nicotine is proven to narrow artery walls leading to heart disease. I t just takes a long time to do it.

This is deceiving. Nicotine can contribute to a lowering of HDL which may result in an increased concentration of LDL. That is what causes narrowing of the arteries. If you otherwise live a healthy lifestyle, and control other factors which can affect LDL/HDL like diet and exercise, than you should be fine.

Also, to settle things - in a large enough dose, nicotine will kill you, no doubt. So will many other recreational drugs as well as prescribed meds. Unless you are afraid of accidentally overdosing, which is unlikely, you should be fine.

The "attractive " thing about nic is how it affects your brain chemistry as do all the psychotropic drugs. I support vaping. It is certainly much, much healthier than smoking, and overeating, and drinking, and eating unhealthy foods, and not getting adequate exercise etc.

I have done a lot of research into the "nicotine is a poison/is nicotine bad" issue and idea. A LOT of research. This is what I keep finding over, and over, and over.

On the nicotine danger side:
-Nicotine is a POISON.
-Nicotine is EXTREMELY TOXIC, and it is one of the most toxic substances you will ever come into contact with in your life.
-If you ingested only Xmg of nicotine, you would die.
-It only takes Xmg of nicotine to kill a baby.
-Nicotine harms unborn children.
-Only Xmg of nicotine could kill an entire elephant.

These statements are not relevant to anything. They have nothing to do with the health debate on nicotine. At ALL. They have nothing to do with the common uses of nicotine and the common methods of ingesting nicotine. Do not, mythical opponent, try to tell me that nicotine is bad, or bad for me, because it is "more poisonous than X, Y, or Z!" SO WHAT? Are you five years old, mythical opponent? I burned my hand on a stovetop when I was five, that is why I do not use stovetops to this day. They are so "obviously dangerous."

Nicotine is a poison, so clearly, it has no benefits and should be avoided because poisons harm the body- poisons have no effects but to harm. That is why nicotine is bad.

If you believe nicotine has no benefits, you are grossly misinformed. But stay away nonetheless. If you aren't grossly misinformed, imaginary opponent, and you do decide to use nicotine:

-Don't ingest Xmg of nicotine, ......
-Don't feed nicotine to your baby, ...... Don't leave nicotine within children's reach, ......
-Don't use nicotine while you are pregnant, ......
-Don't give nicotine to your elephant, ......

It's been occuring to me that since our lives are so stressful, and nicotine is so effective in relieving stress, that maybe nicotine users seek relief so often, that it appears we are addicted.

If not for nicotine, I might have gone over the edge, and who knows, maybe I would be dead from stress by now, or maybe I would be in prison for murder if not for the outlet of nicotine. I'm not saying this is a new phenom, we all know that tobacco was one of the first profitable products the early colonists exported from America, so people have enjoyed nicotine for a long long time. At any rate, it's possible that nicotine has safed lives by preventing it's users from going nuts. :blink:

Something to ponder, anyway....

Since nicotine comes from a plant, other plants may have nicotine & they do like tomatoes & potatoes...

sure, for those of us who use the stuff, it has benefits such as stress relief - but that is not a benefit of using nicotine so much as a negative side effect of having been a nicotine user, i.e. addiction. So I wouldn't say the fact that it satisfies your addiction is a benefit. nic and paint fumes really is a more apples to apples comparison than analogies pointing out the benefits of other potentially dangerous substances such as aspirin.

with the info that is out there today it is a fools errand to argue that nicotine is healthy, but you go ahead.

I like the stuff too, but I don't feel like I'm badmouthing a close friend so I have no hesitation in admitting that it is toxic, addictive, and the health risks are far greater than the health benefits. the primary benefits have to do with nicotine satisfying an existing addiction.

Would the "nic is healthy" crowd step forward and recommend nicotine use to non-users or even children because, hey, they are sure it is healthy in moderation!?

uzzaperez you need to do your homework about nicotine and the effects. Your statements as to the 'primary benefits' being that it only satisfies an existing addiction are long held "MYTHS" and have been disproven by scientific studies - do more reading and less promulgating false information and lies. Nicotine has been proven to, independent of an existing addiction and absent withdrawal relief, improve concentration, induce relaxation and stress relief and in some instances improve energy levels. Nicotine is being actively studied as an important chemical in the prevention/treatment of Alzheimers disease and Parkinson's disease as well as possibly being an effective agent for treating ADHD. While I agree it is not accurate at this point to say that nicotine is "healthy" it has been disproven scientifically that nicotine-absent the smoke as a delivery device-has health risks that "outweigh" the health benefits when speaking about long-term smokers getting off of traditional cigarettes.

Did you read the article in the link I posted on page one.
For me I have a chemical imbalance and nicotine helps even it out for me with out the pharm drugs.

I believe that nicotine, in and of itself, is no more a poison that many of the recent pharma concoctions with their long list of side effects. Too much of either can kill, after all.

Poisons tend to be materials that can be harmful in amounts more or less easily injested, Many of these poisons have a beneficial dose below the toxic dose.

Here is a brief synopsis:
Attention Deficit Disorder - Your choice, treat with nicotine (which is what I do) or with methylphenidate, a toxic, addictive drug that is so controlled that your doctor must hand-write you each new prescription and you must present ID when you pick it up.
Dementia - Nicotine prevents the build-up of plaques, tangles, and alpha-synuclean proteins. The first two cause Alzheimers and the latter causes Parkinson's. The Parkinsonian type of dementia (also called Lewy Body Disease or LBD) is characterized by hallucinations, delusions, and progressive immobility. Nicotine is the only substance I have ever heard of that can prevent the junk that causes dementia from clogging up the brain. Memory - Improves visual memory and spatial working memory. Are there any other treatments for that? Hmmm.

Treatment of depression is tricky. Antidepressants work for only 30% of patients and many have pretty nasty side effects (seizures, tardive dyskenesia, etc.). Some patients need nicotine added to their medication to reach normal functioning. Some patients can get by without medication as long as they have nicotine.
Anxiety - Would you prefer nicotine or Valium? Research Valium before you answer the question.
Schizophrenia - Nicotine helps to reduce impairments caused by meds used to treat this disorder.
Stress Relief - Nicotine relaxes the skeletal muscles without impairing attention. Most stress-relieving substances relax people to the point of going to sleep. Sometimes that's not what you want or need.

BTW: These beneficial effects are seen on lab animals and on humans who have never used nicotine. So the effects are not, as many people believe, only relief of withdrawal symptoms.

An afterthought: One of my nieces had a learning disability. When people told jokes, she didn't get most of them because her brain wouldn't make that leap to connect the thoughts. My younger son's best friend had ADHD that impaired his performance throughout school. The medications didn't work out for him. His parents were making the sign of the cross when he marched across the stage to pick up his diploma.

Both of these young folks took up smoking after graduation from high school. Suddenly my niece seemed to gain 50 IQ points. She could keep up banter in a conversation and is gainfully employed. The young man has been a FedEx driver for several years. If you have ever watched what those guys do, you will know that you have to be able to concentrate and pay attention to do the job right. His co-workers all like him and feel he does a good job.

If either of them had tried taking up smoking when they were under 18, their parents would have killed them. Now I am wondering how much more enjoyable (and effective) their school years would have been if they had been using something like nicotine lozenges throughout the school day.

It's all a matter of tradeoffs between what is needed and what is to be avoided.

But I know only ONE benefit of bread - it will keep me alive - not for long though - if there is no other food available.

I 'quit' bread and grains about 7 yrs ago having no 'gluten' disease - and it was the best thing I did for my body. But I'll hold to my nicotine 'till death do us part' ;)

Good point Quinta. My husband came to the conclusion not too long ago that he has leaky gut syndrome and is gluten intolerant. Elimination of all glutens from his diet has solved the problems he was having, but he is now going through gluten withdrawal. Ironically enough, a lot of those symptoms are very similar to those of nicotine withdrawal.

Some ppl who quit both - bread and smoking - say that bread is much harder to quit and the craving will never go away. (Anyone can try to go just one day without grains).

Nic is highly toxic - ~~Or do a test at home - feed a bottle of "non-toxic" e-liquid to your dog and see what happens.
i have read that nic is a naturally occurring pesticide. and is present in several other plants as well.

just today i was sitting on the porch steps, i saw a fire ant crawling on the step. dripped a drop of 18mg juice on him. he lasted about 30 secs, and even tried to run.
to no avail.

I think it would be fair to say the article posted by DaveP is indicative of smoker's brains and receptors. We may need a few more year's to research effect of vaporized inhalant w/nicotine to determine effects.
But I have been a smoker, 44 year's worth, so figure be virtue of my own now sharpened sense of causal effects of 18 months of vaping, my brain tells me there's a fine line between sufficient dosage vaping 1½-2mls of 12mg/ml juice than a less effective dose vaping 1½-2mls of 06mg/ml juice. YES, I do feel the difference. And it seems awesome to me.
Whether 06mg would yield better results over time than 12mg is not something I'm ready to undertake testing of.
It's just nicer to be able to keep brain function at an acceptable level with high level of harm reduction as opposed to smoking. I felt exceptionally sharp at 3-5mls of 24mg/ml usage, but did feel it was an unacceptable high level of nicotine. Plazma testing told me it was comparable to smoking a pack of cigarettes per day.
This is as far as I'm willing to decrease nic use at this time, however do feel the need to vape is less prominent. I sometimes have to go 'find' where I left my PV, I have stopped carrying it with me at all times, unless I have to go out. I do believe that's huge for a 2-3pack a day cigarette smoker.
