Whew. Just finished the whole thread!! I realize PG/VG are preservatives but I question their efficacy as a preservative. One of the most potent anti oxidants would be Grape seed extract. What do you all think about that? Also, what about Eliquid8? Anyone deal with their Venom nic? Great price although the pic on their page shows the nic as a amber/yellow color in the bottle LOL. I did notice WL states the color can be clear to light yellow. Thoughts? Thanks for the great thread as it may have saved me from a bad purchase. Also, any thoughts on the tobac flavored nic.

I am prettty new to DIY and these are my first nic purchases . .but I purchased a bottle of MFS 60mg nic in 100% PG. I was happy with it until I started getting swollen lips and a sore throat - which I determined to be from the PG.

So I ordered some 100gm nic in 100% VG from Wizard Labs ... just the regular, not the ICE. I am really happy with this nic. So smooth, totally flavorless. I vaped it unflavored with some Humco VG to dilute - and there is practically 0 flavor.

Since Wizard Labs was closed, I ordered some 100mg nic in all VG from MFS. I mixed up my standard peppermint recipe yesterday and tried it out today. Wow - there is a big difference between MFS and WL nic.

The MFS blend has a huge throat hit compared to the WL nic and the MFS nic adds a black pepper taste to my juice. I can see where some people might like that but I wish I had just waited for WL to re-open. I actually think I will need to tailor my recipes or come up with new ones to use the MFS nic base - the black pepper taste is quite strong.

Now I'm starting to wonder if it wasn't PG after all . . but something in MFS nic. I will know after today as I'm going to finish this clearo. With the PG based stuff I'd be in definite pain . . so I'll update this thread if I get a reaction to the MFS nic in 100% VG.

Personally I would not recommend Humco VG at all. I found the taste so horrible it really made me wonder about the quality of the stuff. If you are going to get VG locally (rather than USP VG from WL or elsewhere), NOW brand completely blows it out of the water.

In terms of "flavorless", I'm wondering if other nics are just that flavorful, or I am doing something to picking up flavor most people do not? I would not call either Ice nor regular "flavorless".

No, it's not black peppery, it's not "stinky", but it does have the slightest nic taste I can certainly pick up. Probably the closest thing I've had to the flavor is dried seaweed (which is pretty close to what I'd expect since monographs for nicotine state it has a slight fish odor when heated).

That flavor note is not strong. In Ice I can only barely detect it when using unflavored at around 30mg. That's probably the closest you'll ever get to flavorless I would guess. The regular though, I can still just detect it in a flavored (RealCig) mix @ 18mg.

I do vape through my nose a lot - often the first puff of a draw is straight from my mouth through my nose, so that could be why I detect this more than others seem to. I guess maybe it is "flavorless" in that I really only smell it, and not really taste it.

I can totally relate to the comment by r77r7r in terms of the regular being "WTA-like". While I almost always use flavorings with Ice, the RealCig I have with regular is VERY satisfying. Only makes sense since Ice goes through additional refinement - i.e. removes more of what comes from the tobacco that is NOT nicotine.

I will have to try Now brand - although I was considering ordering some from WL with my next order. I have not tried any other VG's so I have nothing to compare it to - but to me it just tastes kind of sweet . .maybe a little musty or something.

I did say *practically* 0 flavor. I tried the WL unflavored at 12mg - which is my usual strength. I mostly tasted the VG . .with maybe something else in there but I couldn't really describe it. Seaweed sounds reasonable. Maybe something herbal . .but practically nothing.

But the MFS nic is a totally different beast. It is much harsher. I haven't tried it unflavored yet but I can taste it through my peppermint mix - which is 15% TFA peppermint and 5% sweetener . .so it's a pretty strong flavor. I know if I vape MFS unflavored it will have a definite strong peppery taste.

BTW - the MFS nic has no real smell and is clear . .as far as I can tell it's a fine bottle. It just has a really strong taste.

I'm vaping unflavored MFS nic all this weekend. I can literally drink PG, so there won't be a reaction with me due to PG. I'll keep you posted.

Well . .I've vaped half the clearo of my MFS juice and no reaction of any kind so far . .so I'd say it was in fact the PG that was causing my issues. I guess I can tolerate a little bit - since my flavorings are PG based . .but my mixes that gave me a sore throat were around 40% PG and I guess that was just too much.

Anyway, tho - I'm really not liking this MFS nic base. The taste of this particular recipe with WL nic is just like a candy cane. With the MFS nic - it's really scratchy with kind of a dirty taste - kind of tastes like a nicotine patch smells a little bit.

I almost wonder if it's stronger than it should be . . .I measured out the recipe exactly - put 1.2 ml of the nic base to make 10mls of juice then shook well several times, let sit overnight and shook well again before using. But maybe the MFS nic wasn't mixed enough and has hotspots? I did shake the bottle but, as it was full, it didn't shake too well.

I should add, tho, that I don't feel like I'm getting too high nic . .feels normal.

I like the MFS unflavored so far. The TH is strong. I would recommend this for tobacco lovers that also likes a bite. This nic reminds me when I first started vaping. Patriot Range and Decadent Vapors e liquids tasted like this.

After polishing off the clearo - I'd agree with you. This would be good for tobacco flavors or for anybody who wants more throat hit. I'm really surprised at the difference between WL nic and MFS nic, tho.

The same recipe tastes totally different with the 2 different nic bases. So . .I could pass on a recipe to my friend and say "this tastes just like candy canes" . .but he makes it with MFS nic and says "no - it tastes like bitter, minty bandaids"! Since recipes usually don't tell you what nic base they are using . .who knows what it will end up tasting like?

That's a great point. That should be mentioned in DIY recipes. I've mixed quite a few tobaccos with the WL Ice and MFS. I'm looking forward in comparing the two.

Never heard of the company. He should at least fake it and get a nice clear bottle with water in it, and a nice label.

It looks like something I'd put out with the hazardous waste.

In all fairness , WL states Color: Clear to Pale Yellow. So being clear isn't the only criteria one should go by. After all, water is clear.
