Hello i wanted to start a thread based on the nicotine content findings of ejuice from popular vendors. I started vaping over a month ago and have been cheaping out on juice until i get enough extra cash to get the proper DIY equipment. I am relatively new to vaping but not new to chemistry. I had a feeling some of these juices did not have the advertized nic content by vaping them, so i decided to test them.
I am going to be posting the results in plain English for all of the newcomers so not to confuse anyone. I have done the tests with 2ml samples and very accurate measuring tools eg. 1mlx.01ml luer slips instead of massive 3ml ones popularly used. I will post the results rounded to the nearest mg eg. 8.725mg=9mg 8.472mg=8mg.
Genuine hangsen RY4 18mg (the orange cap bottle) Titrated out at 20mg
Genuine hangsen Red USA Mix 18mg (the orange cap bottle) Titrated out at 21mg
Hangsen Juicy Peach 16mg (the green cap bottle) Titrated out at a sad 9mg
Hangsen apple 16mg (green cap bottle) Titrated out at 22mg
Liqua turkish tobacco blend 24mg Titrated out at 32mg
Hangsen mint 16mg (green top bottle) Titrated out at 22mg
I wanted to take a second to comment on the home testing method widely marketed here. I first want to say that this is a great little kit and am in no way bashing the vendor of it. The white cup/syringe method is an excellent idea for this type of testing in the home environment.
However as far as the users go i want to make a few points that may make things easier for you.
1. Measurements Measurements Measurements, the accuracy of this test is completely dependent upon your ability to accurately measure the materials you are using. Make sure you fully understand what measuring in ml/mg is and are properly using and reading the syringes.
2. The reaction process, a common mistake people make is "looking for yellow" the way this works is just that, a solution turns yellow. This yellow however is made by the dissipation of the blue and it will be much easier on your eyes if you look for blue to disappear instead of yellow to appear. If using the syringe method you will notice every time you put a couple drops on 12N in it will turn in it's place a bit before you swirl it, when you get to the point that this does not occur and all the blue is invisible the test is done. I like to get to this point where i think the testing is done, write down the number or ml's and then add a couple more.1ml increments just to make sure the reaction is fully complete before i write it off.
Thanks, any advice or constructive criticism is welcomed
Also if you have suspect juice and are interested in having me test it out for you let me know. I know i do not have much rep here yet so i am more than willing to try to build some.
