I smoked a pack and a half of Marlboro Reds for 22 years. I started with 24mg and tried going to 18 with limited sucess. Twenty-Four took care of the craving but I felt it was too high. I bought some 12 to mix with the 24 and found I vaped constantly. (That should have been @18mg mixing equal parts.) Tried 18 again with fairly similar results. That's been a couple weeks ago so my next order will be an 18mg to mix with the 24. I'm not putting a time stamp on getting to any level. If I can keep having complete success not smoking analogs, I feel like the hard parts behind me. I know my levels will drop as will yours. Move at you're own pace, it doesn't matter where someone else is or how fast they got there. What matters is you're making progress with a goal of lowering you're nicotine intake.

Do what feels right to you. Everyone has a different path, which is one of the great things about custom e-liquids. I'm satisfied for now on 12mg (having started on 24mg over two years ago, and about two-three months later moving to 18mg), and have no plans to change now or in the future. The only reason I went down to 12mg is I love the flavors so much, I'd rather vape a little more with a lower risk of light-headed feelings. If I decide that I want it lower sometime in the future, then I will, but for now, I'm content.

After learning over these past two+ years that nicotine is no worse than caffeine, and in fact is beneficial in many ways, I quit worrying. Harm from nicotine would come in really high doses (REALLY high), or if you're pregnant or have heart disease/disorder or blood pressure issues (then be moderate, ask your doctor). You can self-regulate pretty easy... if you're taking in too much, you'll get a headache and/or nausea, etc., and know to stop/slow down.

Here's some great information about nicotine: The Great Nicotine Myth

But, again, do what feels right to you, and you'll more than likely be fine. :)

There are no rules--we are all different. I could never vape anything more than 12 mg/ml. I had a bottle of 18 mg on hand because I kept reading that 12 was not enough. I tried to vape 18--it was always too strong for me. So I stayed with 12, I would go up to 14 or 16 when I felt I needed more nic, but not for long. Four years later, I'm still vaping 12 mg/ml. Go figure.

My vaping journey has been somewhat different than most. I was a smoker for a short time, but soon there after I took up chewing tobacco and did that for many years. Mind you I'm only 26. Iv'e been tobacco free for 2 weeks and vape at 18mg. I vape quite a bit because I'm accustomed to having large amounts of nicotine for extended periods of time, but it's certainly better than having my face fall apart. It's different for everyone and it helps to find something you really enjoy and stick with it. Anything is better than cigarettes (or chew).

there are quite a few ex smokers here on ECF that took their mg right down to zero ... I have even seen a few smokers who then quit vaping also.

The best thing about the vape is ... it really does work to help quit smoking ... I have confidence you will get to where you want to be :2cool:

Yeah. Believe so. Just kinda trying to find out "where" i want to be.
Im off the analogs. Just now kinda trying to figure out the nicotine part.

And big THANKS to all who've chimed in their experience as it let's me consider different options.

Good read a little later in the post about "The Great Nicotine Myth" and so maybe i might try to do a really low dosage purchase
and see how it goes in about a month: Heck, maybe im not addicted to the nicotine at all? and only just the actions
associated with smoking (this i highly doubt but weirder things have happened).

I've found my morning coffee vape and my almost ADV but i like to bounce around the flavours even if just for a few hits.
Don't think i'll quit vaping altogether - im just too darn fidgety and the kool flavors are just that: cool.
Flavours should be changing as my taste and smell re-adjusts so, i hope this won't mess me up on my ejuice preferences.
(been super lucky starting out with Halo and liking it - was a blind purchase more or less).

Wishing all the best of health!

I smoked for 43 years and my first effort to quit using ecigs failed miserably because I was told I should use 4-8mg. Wish I’d known about ECF then. Second try, year or two later, I used 14-16mg depending on vendor. Couldn’t quite quit. Eventually bumped to 24mg and, with a great struggle, finally quit smoking completely a year and one week ago today. I’m still is a state of disbelief that I did it, so much so that I haven’t posted a one year vaperversay notice, which I should since it was due in part to the great folks here and all their excellent advice and support. Gotta love this place. :)

24mg was a massive overdose for me but it is what got me off the stinkies for good. It made me lightheaded and dizzy but not nauseous. A month later I dropped back to the 14-16mg and soon after that started DIY. Soon after that, I started dropping the nic content and am now down to 5mg. It was a natural progression, not forced. I find that I need less and less nicotine as time goes by. Nicotine also makes my ears ring a bit, something some other people have mentioned having a problem with. The less nic, the less ringing.

I always had a higher nic juice handy for “those moments” but they seem to be coming fewer and farther between. Within a month I’ll have it down to 3mg or less and plan to stay there vaping alternately 1-3mg and 0mg juice. That just seems to be where I’m headed with my physical comfort level. Heck, there’s several people here that have been happily vaping away at 32 or so mgs for ages and are happy with it. In the end, it’s all about you listening to you and not trying to live up to someone else’s expectations. Good luck and happy vaping!

Oh! Yes, the taste is different with less nicotine in it. Higher nic to me now feels like inhaling pepper spray. Some people apparently like pepper spray. I’m dropping 1mg at a time so I no longer notice it as much but before I was alternating between 16mg and 0mg and it took a little getting used to. Personally I prefer the zero now most of the time but, again, that’s just me.

I'm "on the way down"

I have to reach zero by 2016.

I used 24mg in a cig-a-like system and it didn't even begin to address my nicotine habit. (I didn't even smoke a pack a day....)

As soon as I got an eGo e-cig I went on 18mg, then 12mg.

The system you use to vape is as important as the strength. The tobacco companies are selling 48mg cig-a-likes because they have actually realised the "truth" about vaping. (That small e-cigs are next to useless....they produce very little vapour and barely enough nicotine).

This "theory" has also been proven in the last month. (No... I'm not making this up).

To match a full strength cigarette for nicotine, you need to use a certain amount of liquid. Cig-a-likes are designed to produce lots of puffs at the expense of nicotine.

Something the big e-cig brands are quick to ignore.....
