how do you know what miligram level of nicotine you need? i started vaping at a local vender and they reccomended 8mg for what i dipped and smoked a day. i would dip about 3/4 a can a day and smoke about 4-5 analogs daily. sometimes i feel like the 8mg is enough but other times its like im not getting enough and cant put my ecig down for a second because i need more nicotine. would it be a problem if i stepped it up to the next high dose or would that be a bad idea?
thanks logan

To make a long story short, you should use as much nicotine as you feel you need.
There is no known and verified reason not to.

Over time, you may well find that your need for nicotine decreases rather than increases.
This is a very common occurrence around here.

If you're interested in the longer story, I imagine it will shake out in this thread during the course of this day.
I don't have time right now to get into great detail with lots of links and such, but others that follow probably will.

There is no reason why you cant vape different nic levels throughout the day. Get the vape of your choice in say a 4 and 8 and 12mgs. And switch out as you feel your need. Many people here do this. It will take a bit of experimentation on your part as there are many personal variables. But like before said, it might be time to try a higher level if you are having bad cravings.

The "rule of thumb" (no Boondock Saints quotes, please) that I've heard is that 6mg is a light smoker or an ultra light user. 12 mg is a nearly a pack a day or Lights user. 18mg is a Pack a day, full flavor. 24 is over a pack a day or filterless/etc. Seems about right to me. I started at 24 and I smoked a pack and a half a day. I've progressed down to 12 for an ADV and 6 for dripping. But you can always "vape more" if you feel you're not getting enough, it's harder to regulate a higher nic level, in my experience.

i don't smoke analogs anymore I did have one about a week ago and posted about it but it was a one time thing. I also haven't had a dip since may 2nd(my sons birth date) and dip was a worse problem for me than smoking. I might atleast try a 12mg and see if it helps me if not ill stay at 8 and just keep vaping continuously lol

I was a 1 1/2 pack a day smoker. I started at 24 and stayed there for several months. Cut it down to 18 for several months. I am at 16 now mostly but with my unflavored still at 18. I can't see me going any lower but only time will tell. We are each on a different journey so what works best for me might not work for you. Even if you only smoked 1/2 a pack a day with dip you may find that 6 or even 12 isn't enough to get you passed the cravings. Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of vaping.

of course, guidelines are just that,,,,,,guidelines.

I was a 2 PAD smoker, and I NEVER vaped over 14 mg,,,,,,,,I couldn't handle 14, so I went down to 11 and stayed there for quite some time, before tapering down to 0mg,,,,,,

you need what you need for however long you need it,,,,,,,,,even if that's not long,,,,,,,,or the rest of your life. It's not the nic that kills you.

I was about a PAD smoker of american spirits (take 2x as long, seriously) and started with cigalikes in 36mg, then went to 24, and now i'm vaping 18 and occasionally get a little over niced when chain vaping at night watching tv.
once I settle on some ADVs, i'm probably going to get 2-3 12mg or lower for late at night :)

I think most people start around 12-18 and hover there as newbies. I only took a few hits before I felt satisified with 36mg, but now I vape more like I smoked.

I am brand new to vaping as I just got my first e-cig today (eGo blister starter pack), but ordered a Vapor King Ultimate starter kit and should get here tomorrow. I am a 1-2 pad smoker (marlboro reds) so I too was unsure what mg eliquid to get, but chose 24mg. It is too early to tell if that is good enough for me or not, since Ive only been vaping for about an hour now lol

But isnt another factor, how much voltage your battery is? I mean, with this eGo, it has 3 volt settings and the highest setting puts out more vapor, so wouldnt that "seem" or "taste" a bit stronger anyway? Not sure if that is true or not.

I like only needing a few puffs to get some satisfaction, but I've been at 24mg/mL since I started. I was a PAD smoker, and quitting was easy with that strength for me.

IMO it's hard to tell when it's enough nicotine, because when vaping people can always just vape more (if you were smoking analogs, the increase would be more noticeable) to get the fix. Generally people say that they find themselves needing it constantly during stressful situations like it never satiates if it's too low.

Too much nicotine, on the other hand, is easy to detect: you feel like crap.

Yes, the more vapor you get, the more nicotine you're getting.

Good observation, I was actually going to point this out for the OP. One thing you could do rather than having multiple strengths of juice around is use a VV device and vape at higher voltage when you feel like you need more of a hit. I'm loving being able to do that. It's so much simpler than using a 5v mod during the day and a 3.7 at night or running two circuits in the same device. Don't know why the hell I never thought of using a regulator myself

Ha ha ha. I know what you mean.

I started on 26mg, dropped to 12 and now I'm back up to 18.

I keep 32mg around when I need to stealth vape. It's hard core stuff and has a powerful throat hit. Maybe too much.

I don't worry about dropping my Nic level any longer. If I want too, I will.

However, too high Nic level will cause headaches, nausea and dizziness. If you experience these symptoms, back away from the Nic stick. It will pass.

I suppose the right level is the one where you feel good and don't need your PV glued to your mouth all day.

nt from my mobile. Ignore typos please.

Theres a thread somewhere on this site that explains how vaping does not get nicotine into your system as effectivly as smoking. I don't know how you vape but I try to hold the vapor in my mouth for a couple seconds before inhalling then exhale through the nose. This gives the nicotine more time to get into your system. I was a 1 to 1-1/2 pad American Spirits Yellow. 12mg seems to satisfy me pretty well. Hope that helps.
