how do you know what miligram level of nicotine you need? i started vaping at a local vender and they reccomended 8mg for what i dipped and smoked a day. i would dip about 3/4 a can a day and smoke about 4-5 analogs daily. sometimes i feel like the 8mg is enough but other times its like im not getting enough and cant put my ecig down for a second because i need more nicotine. would it be a problem if i stepped it up to the next high dose or would that be a bad idea?
thanks logan
You know you're getting enough when you know you're getting enough. Or something equally inane and uninformative.
No, seriously, short of getting actual blood tests to check the levels of nicotine in your blood stream, nobody's really sure how much vaping of which level of nicotine corresponds to... anything. I suspect it's highly, highly variable among individuals. There may be no "standard". However anybody got their nicotine--smoking, dipping, chewing, whatever--they're trying to hit some personal level of nicotine in their blood stream. When the nicotine circulating in your blood drops below whatever your level is, that's when you get the cravings.
However you were getting the nicotine before, you'd "practiced" (without really paying attention) hitting and maintaining that level. Now you've switched "delivery systems" and have to shuffle your habits around. Seems just about everybody--myself included--does the "chain vape" at the start. I'd bet it's because when you first switch to vaping, you're not experienced at how much vaping (or how, exactly, to inhale) gets you the nicotine you're used to. But just keep playing around with it and you'll hit it.
Think back to starting the tobacco products. There wasn't any guide on how much to use. You just do it. And somewhere along the line, figure out (half unconsciously) how to "hit" that nic level that fits you.
Anyway. There's nothing wrong at all with trying other nic levels. Just go up a bit, not a bunch. And don't buy big amounts of any liquid at first. You need to try things out, sample different things, find what works best for you. Nobody can tell you what fits you except, well, you. Get a small bottle of, oh, 12mg and try it out. See how it goes.
Watch out, though, for feelings of being "jittery" (like too much coffee) or headaches or nausea or other oddball things. That can be a sign of too much nicotine. Go up in small steps, not big ones. I started way too high and had to come down a lot. Would have been better if I'd started low and come up gradually.
By the way, you don't have to stick to "a" level you know. You can switch around. I do now. I start higher in the mornings, the time I used to want that "first one of the day" really bad. Then come down on my nic level as the day wears on. Especially in the evenings when I drop to 6mg. When I go plop down on the couch and watch some TV before bed, I still tend to "chain vape" a little ('cause it's tasty!). Anything higher than 6, for me, keeps me awake for hours.
