I just DIYd my first batch of juice using nicotine salts , 4mg , using a .5 subohm, and was wondering if the benzoic acid in it is harmful for dogs or cats from second hand vapor. Dont get me wrong im not hotboxing my living room, but i do use my vape once in awhile in my living room where i have a dog and some cats. Just wanted to check to be on the safe side.

What is it you are worried about? You are not confusing Benzoic Acid with Benzene are you? One is not related to the other.

You might want to take a gander at this post (and some of the ones surrounding it for context). Kurt (the author of the post) is a Professor of Chemistry at a university in Pennsylvania; and is also involved in vaping research.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I’m not a rocket surgeon or anything but if you believe it’s 95% less harmful than smoking and the fact that second hand smoke has never caused a non smoker any harm whatsoever. Your pets might actually be healthier by you vaping. Hmmm 95%+0 non-smokers minus big tobacco carry the 2. I’m gonna have to get back to you after I check my math, as you can probably tell I’m not a math magician either, but in the meantime your pets should be ok. Just to be safe take your dog for 2 walks a day for at least a mile and don’t worry about the cats because all cats are in cahoots with Satan himself. In fact you should be more worried about those cats then the vaping. Good luck and I’ll let you know if I ever get my math equations worked out.

I don't think second hand vapor is going to affect your pets. I don't believe it "affects" too much of anything, given there have been a few reports of measuring the inside of (vaping) vape shop brick and mortars, where quite a bit of vape can be floating about. I also think (although I don't know too much about benzoic acid) that nic salts don't tend to be more harmful, just because they have been converted into a salt form. I do DIY with nic salts from a vendor that doesn't use benzoic acid, so I'd imagine some salt vendors aren't using benzoic acid, and there is an at home "conversion" method using citric acid although I don't know much about it (yet).

I can say our dog is fine, (and he's tiny, Chiwawah size honestly) and he suffers no ill effects. My son's dog (who was a smoking dog she still tries to eat every cigarette .... she finds) appears to enjoy my vape and always sits somewhere where she is near to it. Don't know if it's the smell, or whatever, but she also has not come to any apparent harm.

I think you may be overthinking it a bit, but if something about vaping starts to bother your pets, I suspect they will let you know (behaviorally) but I haven't really seen it or heard of it,, honestly.
