I used them for years. Aluminium is not magnetic. The slim danger is that (and this is verbatim how i was told this) 'your magnet may slip and jam and in a raw grand short to the case'.

But i had a powder coated grand and you have a silver one coming. I could not see if it was a raw tumbled one or some other silver finish you bought.

I bought a grand about 4 months after my ECF join date and used a magnet regardless until the new kits came out (not long ago!!), so it depends on your assessment of risk, and after all - if it all goes pear shaped, that's what a spring is for!

T

To answer you directly - it's not recommended practice :D

T

The Reo I got is the anodized silver color, not raw.

And to answer you directly... I am totally going to use a magnet. hahah

Thanks for the info. I already own some magnets to use with my charger, so why not? There's no way I'd be patient enough to get a Reo in the mail and NOT try it, let's be serious. The worst case scenario, like you said, is I'll be out a $5.00 spring. And in the meantime I'll order button top batteries.

...unless someone else chimes in and says "DON'T USE A MAGNET YOU IDIOT." ;) Guys?

Edit: editing this post to mention some details since now we're on a new page of the thread. :p I bought a Reo Grand on the classies, but it doesn't have the sub ohm kit and I realized I only own flat top batteries. Blah blah. This now has NOTHING to do with "nicotine strength." Oops!

Sorry for making a mess of the thread, but it's MY thread, so deal with it. I'm just kidding. :)

Anyway, I just found a post from Rob (December of last year) and he said "Magnets and batteries not a good idea . I would just use your flat top batteries if that is all you have."

So, there we go. Case closed.

I'm glad you got a Reo. I nearly replied to this thread the other day, after you said you like dripping, and you said you wanted to find a mod to stop the endless buying of vaping gear, and I thought to myself, this guy should really do himself a favor and get a Reo. It was late at night so I went off to bed instead of posting, and I was disappointed the next day when you said you got something else.

But you bounced back! I'm sure you'll love it!

I know what i did is all - because just using the flat-tops in an "old" grand will just mean you end up mashing the firing pin and button is all to get a contact.

Anodised are rare! Couldn't tell from the pic. Now i'm ...... off i didn't buy it! ;)

"will i blow my head off if i use a magnet on my Reo?" Unlikely.

Thanks! It feels good to join the "family", especially after I chose to order that other mod instead. (If you're curious, it's a silver K100 with an IGO-L. Nothing fancy, but I'm still glad I'm getting it.)

I think it's funny that you were disappointed that a stranger didn't get a Reo. That shows just how crazy (I mean awesome!) Reonauts are. Thanks for the support.

Are the anodized finishes really rare? That's cool! A nice bonus.

And I won't be using the flat tops for long, I just ordered some AW IMR's from RTD Vapor, along with some of the super shorty 1.7 ohm cartos (and some G2 Mr. Cookie juice). Then next week I can grab an RM2, sub ohm repair kit and bottles from Rob.

Ah, new toys...

Aaaand the other stuff I ordered this week is already up on the Classifieds. Sigh, god, I hate buying stuff over and over and being disappointed/frustrated. Maybe this week I'll just predict fate, order a second Reo Grand, 2 RM2s, and never buy any hardware for the rest of my life. :p

If you end up not liking the REO and RM2, I never talked to you nor recommended it :p. Oh, and you'd be like the one and only person I think...no pressure.

Since you have the original contacts the next most important purchase would be to get a tube of Noalox from a hardware store or Home Depot. You will find it in the "electrical stuff" department. It's used to improve conductivity of aluminum to aluminum contacts and happens to work very well for our purposes.

You clean the battery positive switch contact and put a dab of Noalox on the contact. (It's really thick.) This gives you the best electrical contact and is really necessary. Otherwise you might get inconsistent performance when you hit the fire button.

Cartos on a Reo is a whole new experience. Any problems you may have had with leaking cartos or drying them out? Yeah - you can forget about that with a Reo. I would head for the shorty cartos as your best bet from what you have there.

Thank you, I wish I had thought of that when I placed my RTD order. I don't drive so I can't get to Home Depot, and my local hardware store didn't even know what Noalox was when I needed it last year. (I had a black anodized Lavatube 2.0 last year that did not work without Noalox on the tube threads.)

This will mean nothing to 99% of the people reading, but... ;) Rick, Tags in Porter Square was where I went last year. Maybe they have it now, but I don't know. Do you know if Economy, or True Value on Newbury Street sells it?

Edit: looks like Ox-Gard is an option too.
