I just started vaping. I currently have 2 different e-cigs. The first one I can't figure out the brand, it's sold in all of the smoke shops here and it's just called super e-cig. There is no information on the battery packaging or refill cartos. I can't find any info about it online. All I know is that it is "menthol high".

I also bought some from vapor4life in 36mg, in various flavors. These are much stronger than the super cig and I can only take a couple of puffs before I have to stop.

My question is... is the strength in the Nicotine or in the flavoring? I normally smoke 1/2pk a day of Camel Menthol so I bought 36mg. From what I've been reading I probably should have only got a 16mg. Will switching from 36mg to 16mg make them not as strong in flavor/taste?

Did this make any sense at all? LOL I would have posted this on the V4L forum but I'm a newbie and can't post there yet.

I used to smoke a pack and a half a day of Double Diamond Menthol - they're cheap, nasty, and harsh. On the useful side, you could exhale the smoke from one and strip paint quite nicely. I went from 1.5 packs a day of those to vaping at 12mg.

The strength - kinda depends on how you mean it. But if yo mean what I think you do - when they say "High" they mean that it's a high Nic level. The lower nic levels are going to vape smoother, more gentle so to speak. Varying the nic and menthol as well as base fluid can all influence how we perceive the 'hit'.

My wife vapes the same flavors as me, but hers is 6mg compared to my 12 mg. Her flavors are more pronounced and easier to taste because of the lighter juice. (The actual flavor is unchanged - but the perceived flavor changes due to more/less TH)

36mg is really high - especially coming off a 1/2 pack a day habit.

I'd try a different brand of menthol juice as well. Some just bowl you over with menthol. I personally don't use menthol except when I have a cold but, Value Vapor Double menthol is a nice one that won't leave you on menthol overload. And yes 16-18 mg nic. I was a 2-3 pack a day smoker and do use 36mg, but, as others have said, that is for people like me, not 1/2 pack a day smokers like you.

Companies that list nicotine as Low, Medium, or High have no set guidelines to compare the nicotine level to. "High" nicotine has been listed as anything from 18 to 36mg, all depending on who you ask. All you can do in the beginning is make an educated guess on what nicotine level is right for you. For a half a pack to a pack a day smoker, 18 to 24mg is usually the norm. Some are fine as low as 12mg.

As for the relationship between flavor and nicotine... there is none. Nicotine does not effect flavor. Only the flavors added to the nicquid and the voltage/resistance of the PV effect the flavor.

Congratulations on taking the first steps in quitting smoking and becoming a Vaper. Now comes the hard part... doing the research to find out what flavor and nicotine level and vapor device is right for you. All anyone can tell you at this point is read, study, ask questions, and try to make informed decisions as to what is right for you. Just remember... if you try a flavor/nicotine level/PV that you don't like, don't give up... try a different flavor/nicotine level/PV.

Thank you all for the help. I read somewhere (prob on this forum somewhere) that if your nicotine is too high it can irritate your throat, so I wasn't sure if it was the nicotine or the flavoring. Either way it looks like I need to reduce my nicotine level. I should have researched it more before I purchased, I just assumed that if I smoked full flavor cigs I should get the highest nicotine to be equivalent. That's what I get for thinkin'. LOL

strength is the nicotine (unless you are choosing the Flavor Strength which some juice vendors also offer choices on like Extra flavor or Double flavor)

36g is extremely high. And Vapor4Life is a KR808D-1, a real 3.7v mini so especially with their WOW cartos it's a hotter hit than most minis. On top of that, some of V4L's flavors have a very sharp edge to them. Some 24mg vapers can't even vape the 24mg WOW cartos. Try 24mg and try 18mg.

A lot of people tend to overestimate nic level needs I think. One of the hazards of internet ordering as opposed to having a real store that you can walk in to and actually talk to the people in the know.

I'm happy with my 12mg, I have some 18mg around for those times I feel the need for a bit more of a punch. But my wife dropped to 6mg because she was getting too much niccy from the 12 and it was keeping her from vaping as much as she wanted to for enjoying flavors etc. And she and I both smoked the same analogs, and the same amount of them.

So when it comes to nic levels, there are a lot of variables.

Actually, the opposite seems to be the case. People under order the nic level when they start and still smoke. Once they increase the nicotine level, they drop the cigs. It doesn't have to be a long time, just a couple weeks will usually get someone off cigs.

Nicotine level is one of those things you don't know until you try. There really is no coorelation between your cigarette brand and your nicotine level. They're found that people that smoked 'light' cigarettes are just as addicted to nicotine as someone that smoked full flavors. They both worked on receptors in the brain in the same way.

I got a bottle of 12 & 24 when I started. I figured I could add to the 12 if I needed, or decrease the 24 if I needed. I was fine starting with 24. My mom, a long time smoker but a light cig smoker needed 36 to get off cigs for the first two weeks. She now vapes 6 mg.

Sometimes you just need that to make the transition. Get small bottles. I don't like to vape too low because then I vape too much.
